Yeah, I've gone through a similar process this year. Going down TH-cam rabbit holes has been the main problem, I have the YT app on my telly so it's easy to just sit there with the remote scrolling and before you know it three hours have elapsed.
For me it was not turning the internet on as soon as I get up, and instead reading for an hour. Also putting a timer on for 30 mins and seeing how many pages I read within that time period then I know, okay if I read two hours today that's maybe 120 pages (depending on how many words per page) I read Pillars of the Earth in under two weeks and that's abt 1000 pages. In a way I don't like this approach as it feels like "gamification" but it works for me as opposed to just randomly picking up a book here and there without any structure.
Also, if a book of say 400 pages in length I'm fining after 100 pages it's an absolute chore/getting no enjoyment from it then I will most likely put it on the DNF list. Life is too short and I'm not sure why there is this idea that a book has to be finished, that it is somehow "wrong" to quit or a defeat. Certainly, two episodes into a ten part documentary series, if I'm not feeling it then it would make no sense to invest another eight hours just for the sake of "finishing", with books however there is an associated "guilt" attached if you essentially do the same thing (for some reason)
That's not really what your video is about however I think we all sometimes read books just to say we've read them - especially classics. I wasted a lot of time slogging through abt 800 pages of David Copperfield which I HATED and knew wasn't for me after 100 pages. I wouldn't do that again....

@@AminorMorning I totally agree with what you’ve said… It doesn’t exactly feel right to make reading a game, but I think it’s fine to do it now and then, especially if you have a specific goal in mind. And I’m also not one to force myself to finish a book I’m hating just for the sake of saying I’ve read it, but if I feel ambivalent towards a book, I will try to finish it because I’m always hopeful that’ll I’ll enjoy it in the end. Thanks for watching, have a great week!

@@AminorMorning Ooh! I’m so glad you read it! Thanks for letting me know your thoughts, now I kind of want to reread that story.

@@ingerlouise the old library card comes in handy! I like reading things that are out of my "usual" genres so thanks for the recommendation.
I just think the setting appealed to me (jungle/not England) and it felt the most "complete" of the stories. You should definitely read Perfume!
