An irony is that Israel has done so much environmental work! Tree planting is a national obsession there. Israel is the only nation on earth w more forests & trees now than before the industrial revolution. (The Ottomans stripped away the forests of the region.). The early settlers drained the swamps. One third of them died of malaria from such work. The rich farmlands of the south are reclaimed from those swamps. Then there is the water problem. Israeli desalinization plants to make sea water drinkable are the best in the world; used by many African nations. They invented drip hoses. I could go on, but it's enough. Israel should be held up as a role model for national environmental policies, & not villified by St Greta.

Sorry, I probably agree with you on many things but Nigel Farage is a self-serving charlatan. The right wing version of Greta Thunberg looking for a cause to promote himself with. He promises fantasies hoping he'll never have to deliver them. When he won the Brexit vote (which I genuinely don't think he either expected or even wanted to) and he had to deliver these fantasies in the real world and he was caught out. There is little hope for British politics when people are so easily scammed. Just dangle 'I'll deal with immigrants' in front of some people and they'll give you the keys to their house and vote for people whose real purpose is to make billionaires out of millionaires whilst working people go to food banks.
They all should try to work like I do every day, then they find a lot of purpose in there lives. They simply live empty lives and feel the need to fill them with something, anything..

I watched an interview with Eden Golan. What a delightful young lady - bright, socially and politically aware amd considered but with a huge amount of joy and love of life and music. She's a beautiful person, inside and out.
Greta Thunberg is beligerent, misguided and impulsive. When she first came to the fore, I thought she was gutsy but now I think she's just annoying. She may have a point to make on climate but you're not going to get much cooperation or movement if you shout "How dare you!" at a bunch of authoritarian old men at the UN.

About people needing a purpose: this is a very flattering interpretation of Greta et al’s campaigning. It isn’t hard to find a purpose. Two examples. In the uk about 1300 homeless people died on the streets last year. Suicide rates are rising steadily. Homeless shelters and the Samaritans are desperate for volunteers. All they ask from you is time and commitment. This is nothing like glamorous for “activists” - everything they do needs to be visible and contribute to the virtuous image of themselves that they want to project. This isn’t looking for a purpose. This is pure narcissism
People like her have to be seen. I have a friend exactly the same. She does a lot for people but makes sure everyone knows.

Trees do not need an elevated CO2 level, because there was more than enough of it in the atmosphere even before humans were around. They need room to grow, but humans are cutting them down, more than they are planting them. It's not like extra CO2 is going to magically solve that problem for us.
What elevated CO2 does is raise the average temperature and melt ice where this is harmful, thereby raising sealevels. This also reduces the land area for trees to grow by the way. The quickly changing CO2 levels / raising temperatures also cause more extreme weather leading to more floods and other natural disasters.
These are all simple facts that are not disputed by scientists. There is only disagreement about the exact details. I actually agree with the sentiment that Greta meddling in the Israel/Palestine situation is unhelpful, but that is no reason for anyone to go all climate-denial on us.

Greta is a perfect example of giving too much attention to teenage anguish.
She was such an inspiration when she rowed to the US to excoriate the government for not doing enough to combat climate change. When she came out as an anti-Israel protester it’s like she became a whole new person.
She didn't row. She was a passenger on a small vessel. When she arrived in the USA, the crew of that small craft, having other things needing doing, flew back to Europe and then flew back to the USA when it came time for the 'great and powerful' Greta to return to Europe. I don't recall how many people were in the crew, but it was at least three or four so that's a total of six or eight trips across the Atlantic for the vanity of one person.

Dad was an atheist, but his father was Jewish, and with all the evangelicals on his mom's side, it made for interesting family gatherings.
