He added 12 inches to the headers instead of 6'' unless he means to add 6' inches to each side

The quick way is to estimate one stud for every foot of wall length.

I want you to check out this formula pli
Length of building ÷spacing of stud +1 ANS × 2 both side. Do the same to the width of build and add (+) them together

@@Liz-tv7ww that will work. Length should be in inches. If you have any corner posts, T posts, window or door openings you will have to add studs.
