How I Reload Subsonic 223 / 556 Rounds

  • In this video I go over my recipe and process for reloading subsonic 223 / 556 rounds to use with my AR and bolt action with the suppressor.
    I don't use these for anything practical, but really more of just for fun, plinking, and showing how quite suppressed subsonics can be.
    This is purely educational and for entertainment and not meant to serve as a how-to video or instructional video even though I know youtube is probably going to age restrict it anyways.

    I really enjoy this powder crazy to think that you only get a half of pound per can so bulky!! I was surprised how well it worked in the rcbs powder flow !! Great vid!!

      But with only a few grains per round, you get so many rounds out of that little half pound. Haha. Thanks for watching!

    Man I used to buy beck ammunition subsonic 77gr expanding rounds before they became “extinct” haha. I wish I could still get them because it’s awesome for blasting armadillos that are tearing my yard up at 2am

    The problem I have when I clean the brass, is that there is always some corn cob stuck in the flash hole. How do you deal with that problem? Why don’t you do a video about what happens when you reload a rifle round and tumbling media remains/lodged in the brass. How it effects pressure, accuracy, and how likely it is to blow up the gun. You make awesome videos and I'm most grateful for all the work you do.

      That's a great idea. I don't use corn cob media in my tumbler. I actually wet tumble with stainless steel pins. Even when they are wet they don't really get stuck in the case or the hole.

    • @ZachTries
      @ZachTries  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bigliftm Powder has to be contained in order to 'boom'. The plastic containers that smokeless powder comes in is actually designed to melt before the powder gets hot enough to burn, in order to prevent explosions during house fires.

      Fisss! if it is modern rifle powder. Boom! if it is old fashioned Black Powder.

    Where did you find data for the load to come up with a recipe that has the projectile traveling less than 1,100 FPS? I have been using reloading books and have found some websites that have FREE data but not always able to find data that I trust.

    • @ZachTries
      @ZachTries  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! I actually use hodgdon’s own reloading site: www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/rifle and just select 223, 55gr projectile, and trailboss. On there is says 4gr of powder. But I’m at a higher elevation and colder air so anything over 3.6 and I get the supersonic crack.
