I'll not try go come up with 10, but my top four are, Port Royal (German edition), Century: Spice Road, Dominion, and Splendor. In that order.

When the game says "file" it means file the patent, not "organize your paperwork." So it is perfectly thematic.

I felt like I was watching that different perspective thing like in Lord of the rings...... Gandalf looked much larger than Frodo because of the distance from the camera. Tom looked gigantic compared to Samwise the hobbit.....
Oh and the game sounds fun too.

I want to play ticket to ride with the marble gizmo. No more shuffling!

Decent idea, but I think it would be easier to sort high amounts of cards than marbles.

Played this at CMON Expo and had lots of fun (doesn’t hurt that I won too!), definitely one of the highlights of the con!

It's like a slighly more complex Splendor.

more like a 'sort of simpler' wingspan

Sounds like a buy... Thanks for the review, guys. Box description and component art didn't catch my interest, but hearing the rules with the pieces to point to etc went a ways towards visualizing the virtues I otherwise wasn't catching. This video was definitely a helpful one

Some neat little gateway engine builders coming out lately. In addition to Gizmos, Fantastic Factories looks good as well. Can't decide which I'd probably go for.

Reminds me of Roll for the Galaxy but instead of Dice you have the marbles.

Seems it's in the realm of Splendor, Majesty & Century am I right?

It's a little more involved than those.

This seems very much like Splendor, but with less tactical resource management and instead added micro management, which would not appeal to everyone, and seems would make players turns get longer and longer as the game progresses...

It is probably a good thing to see building on 'Splendor' basics, could be like how others built on 'Dominion' deckbuilding.
I do wonder if this isn't, at least in part, a conscious marketing decision as CMON's answer to 'Splendor' sales.
So, instead of a bought card just expanding your buying power, they can expand other rules, which makes it a deeper puzzle. Also, the end condition, instead of first to 15+ points means last turn, it decouples first to 16 cards then points are counted. And other little differences, possibly to address Splendor bottlenecks, you can opt to go for 1 of top 3 unseen cards from deck, # of cards in rows (appears to be 5, 4, 3), and marbles/gems available to take is a little different.
Curious to know if I'd actually be thinking of Splendor during play.
In the preview I immediately noticed the points (Zee) later made in the review, like potential (later) choice complexity, and some plain graphics.

I think Zee highlights an important point and I think it is also relevant when considering the downtime. The lead player would end up taking longer turns than the players that are losing which risks reducing the enjoyment of the players that are behind even further. It can get tedious but can easily be the case from halfway through the game onwards, not just near the end. Similar to in Dominion - I’ve been in games of Dominion where each of one player’s turns took longer than the three other players combined, just because they had a such a string of +actions+draws+buy. 3 out of 4 players at the table bored just willing the province pile to be empty. #theydidn’tevenwin

The marbles plug up in the dispenser and I'm constantly shaking it to get them to fall down the chute.

  • @randybieri

How the heck do you put that thing in the box? You have to rebuild it for each game? If so, that device is not going to last too long being just cardboard.

It breaks down in to 2 pieces and fits fine.

I hate games where I have to disassemble something, but gave this a go after I saw it was only 2 pieces. 4 years, and many plays later, it's still in good shape. The cardboard has a wax coating on it that hasn't scratched at all, and the slotted areas still look decent.

The marbles seem a bit fiddly-- you could just as easily do it with cards, as if they're shuffled, just taking the top card would be "randomized", you wouldn't have to fish through the deck. In fact, it looks like it wouldn't be hard to replace the marbles with cards if you can find or make some with colors. It's not color-blind friendly though, where cards with colored shapes on them instead of marbles and shaped color icon symbols would be. Splendor for example, is color-blind friendly.

I think the symbol for “draw random energy” is kind of bad and non-intuitive.

I always find it hilarious how you get hundreds of thousands of dollars off of people to play games all day and yet you still have ads like you are broke.

They really aren't that rich. They get a couple hundred thousand from Kickstarter, for people who want to fund them. And then they play Ads to make more revenue. Many of them do this as their job and they buy tons of games as well. It's a business and the way they make money. So your comment is irrelevant. Ads are not only used by broke people. They are used when you want to make money. Grow up and stop complaining.
