Alan Donald had one of the most cleanest actions in cricket. I remember that ball to Tendulkar which bowled him. What a ball!!. Just sheer pleasure watching him bowl. One of the all time greats !! He is a legend!
I'm South African but grew up in Birmingham UK. And Warwickshire was my local cricket club. I first saw Allan Donald bowl in 1989, and I was blown away by his speed, accuracy & total commitment. I was so proud he came from the country of my birth, especially as it was a sad time for SA, & 2 years before they were readmitted into international sport (due to apartheid). I watched him play many times @ county level & in test match cricket over the years & he always gave 200% (sadly not all do)...he was the best fast bowler I've ever seen, & he was the hardest working too (coincidence? 🤔) Allan dankie vir die herinneringe, en vir alles wat jy aan Warwickshire & Suid-Afrika gegee het!
I'm a proud Englishman and I have the deepest respect for this great athlete and man. I loved watching him bowl against all the international teams. Inspiring stuff.
If only i had seen this video twenty years ago. Had a tiny Black and white TV with no cable (just Doordarshan) but if i had known of this great man's personality, and his incredible drive to excel, I would have taken up fast bowling in school. Ah well, so great to hear from him now.
This is one of the most informative and filled interviews of respect and acknowledgments to venues, players, people in general that I have to date been privileged to hear. Thank you Alan Donald (White Lightening) for what you have given us, and what you continue doing for all. Arohanui from New Zealand.
Growing up in Nepal, we used to copy his action with cream on the nose and try to uproot the stumps like he did Tendulkar's. One of my absolute favourites.
I too copied his action n became strike bowler of school team ....its so nice to remember when every kid used to copy great bowlers of that time like murli pollack glen McGrath chaminda vaas😀
@UCSZmzfqUaKypejxJQ0ntEeQ true..that Nagpur spell was all class...he just took the pitch out of equation...can't say about McGrath but steyn is the best bowler of this generation..anderson nowhere near him...ashes and home bully abderson
I have been a fan since childhood and I was lucky to be able to see him from a few meters away during the T20 WC in Dhaka. He is not only one of the greatest fast bowlers of all time but a Genius. This guy is so passionate about the art of fast bowling and everything else about it that one could easily tell he is a 110% professional and a big sports freak. There aren't too many like him other than Michael Holding. Having him as the bowling coach of Bangladesh is an honor. Hope to see you with us for many years to come. Thank you Allan Donald!
My childhood fav fast bowler !!!! What an action he had !!! And that fearsome look with zinc oxide on his nose and lips !! Out and out gentleman though !!!
In today's cricket nobody is alike "Allan Donald"❤...what a beautiful bowling action he had. He was accurate, he had Pace, Bounce, Attitude, Agressiveness, he was Lethal, Competitive words will fall short to describe about him...He was the real threat for any Cricketing Nation..Immense Respect for this Legend ❤..Love from INDIA.
Probably the best fast bowler in the world. I don’t think cricket can witness such bowlers in future. He was one of its kind. Had great memories of his famous battles with Tendulkar and other great batsmen.
What a champion he was. Few better when he had his tail up. His duels with the Waugh boys are stuff of legend. Encapsulated almost a bygone era where you'd tune in for 1 guy because you knew something special was happening.
He's for sure quick as any good fast bowler in today's time .And look at how smooth his bowling action is.. that's what is dearly missing in today's generation of cricket..He is and will remain the best fast bowler to me ever...grew up imitating him...
Simply the legend...ammazing action ..it was a greatest thrill to see his bowling reply with white patch on the nose..it's like a tiger approaching the batsmen..when the Donald bowls the batsmen fear of duck..live long Donald .. love from India..
Good importance of becoming an athlete. An ex Pakistani cricketer told me that do come to come sprinting, weights on legs arms and weighted jacket etc to build the fitness, now I think about it it makes you a better athlete. I asked he about change in actions and he told me to do this first. He said a lot of times about come to come sprints after nets or matches
If you want to get your money's worth just to watch a spell from a high class fast bowler there was probably no one more exciting than him in my generation! Beautiful action, sheer pace, accuracy, bounce, movement- just a full pacakge!
Donald is my most fav best cricketer of all time since i startd watching cricket early 92 93 or sumthn against zimbabwe.. others r hansie ,gibbs, boucher
If Great Sachin made me start watching cricket in early 90s, it was legendary Donald who actually made me pick up fast bowling as my cricketing skill. Right from my run up to the crease til final action of delivering the bowl and then the follow through, still have a reflection of this wonderful bowler. My all time favourite till I play and thereafter.
Great technical insight by Allan Donald on his own bowling action & its progression. As a teenager I just saw his sheer pace & aggression which I used to imitate as I was quite thin like he appears to be but wasn't nearly as fast! I did once knock over a left-handers off stump with a delivery by a tennis ball when I was at my best aged about 15 but didn't play much thereafter. Never played too much with a real cricket ball owing to lack of protective equipment & fear of injury. Used to love watching Donald but wish he had maintained his pace in his latter years, although as he's explained maybe it was part of his development that suited him to prolong his career.
He has totally reverse technique of bowling than Wasim Akram or Waqar Younis. Wasim always said to bowl from close to stumps, Alan is saying he was comfortable to bowl from far. Both are great though! Everyone has his own greatness formula.
I think it says it all that a bowling legend like Brett Lee openly admitted to looking up to Allan Donald and wanting to emulate him. Donald one of the true modern greats that changed the expectations of strike bowling in all forms of the game.
Wasim Akram to Allan "I'm gonna kill you" lol wooow I remember all these battles as young as I was but yoooh the Mike Atherton one lol was just amazing I loved it.
"I could not swing the all , I was lousy " yeah , tell that to Kieth Arthurten , I remember when Donald bowled him with a fast inswinger in that famous test match. He had such a fantastic action plus he was a tremendous athlete. His record was simply amazing I think injuries slowed him down at the end but he was a really smart bowler , he developed a super slower ball at the end of his career, I remember he outfoxed Robin Smith (The judge) in a county match , he also took an awesome catch and hurt his back in that game. Great bowler and a Supreme Athlete .
I always remember for his signature celebration. None did that celebration like he did it. Jumping & clapping his hand around his knee. His bowling was tremendous.
Allan Donald was an absolute beast back in the day. Pinging deliveries into Mike Atherton full speed just to get under his skin. Athers took it though and eventually saw us home. Good Times. ✌️😎✌️
Donald was a madman, and I love him. Too bad the world is void of the likes of him and Shoaib Akhtar at the moment. All my love and respect from Bangladesh.
Allan Anthony Donald had an aesthetic action which allowed him to generate pace as well as accuracy. Other bowlers with aesthetic actions were Malcolm Marshall, Curtly Ambrose, Michael Holding, Javagal Srinath, Glenn McGrath, Shoaib Akhtar, Wasim Akram,, Imran Khan, Zaheer Khan, Mohammad Shami, Kapil Dev, Manoj Prabhakar and so on. It is important to have a good action because then accuracy is automatic
Best bowling action ever. I see lot of fast bowlers bend arm for speed. For me Allan Donald action is perfect.. he is bowler who has same action when bowling at 135 and 150. I see lot of bowlers have slight bend to go beyond 145. But no body observe this and give importance to. Sad thing why cant we check bowling action for above 145 kmph
Alan Donald had one of the most cleanest actions in cricket. I remember that ball to Tendulkar which bowled him. What a ball!!. Just sheer pleasure watching him bowl. One of the all time greats !! He is a legend!
Well said Sumanth. Cleanest action as a fast bowler absolute pleasure to see him bowl
Yes, but he is a bigot isnt he,The asshole did not mention sachin .
@@wheeloftime2908 He's mentioned many times the respect he's got for Sachin and how him and Lara are the two greatest batsmen ever apart from Bradman
@@wheeloftime2908 He's called Sachin the greatest batsman ever too...
I remember that ball bat pad gap in swinger. They showed this clip on espn inside edge.
Coach of Bangladesh National Team 🇧🇩. He worked really well with our seamers and seamers improved exceptionally well❤
One of the greatest bowlers the world ever saw. Sheer beauty in his bowling action coupled with speed and discipline.
I'm South African but grew up in Birmingham UK. And Warwickshire was my local cricket club. I first saw Allan Donald bowl in 1989, and I was blown away by his speed, accuracy & total commitment. Durban 1996...who remembers the sight of Tendulkar's off stump flying off to the keeper...what a bowler
Leg stump
Etched into my memory very clearly
@@rawanderer4737 , he definitely uprooted Sachin Tendulkar's off stump out of the ground.www.dailymotion.com/video/x3ax0lr

Absolutely legendary this man. Greatest South African bowler ever

@@nitlover8319 Nope. AD began his career at 25 due to Apartheid. The man was lethal at age 18, could have ended up with 600 wickets.
Steyn is up there and is statistically, but the batsmen Donald faced were unbelievably tough. He made tendulkar look ordinary

I’m a right arm fast bowler. This is so helpful. Donald is an absolute legend. Really miss Donald vs Atherton rivalry.

Lovely to hear these stories from one of the game's greats!
One of the most intimidating bowlers ever!
Classy and fearsome bowler for any batsmen. Can't forget Sachin's stumps flying, the most painful moment for every cricket loving kid in India.
Probably the best fast bowler in the world. I don’t think cricket can witness such bowlers in future. He was one of its kind. Had great memories of his famous battles with Tendulkar and other great batsmen.
How good was that ! I was lucky to have seen Allan many times for Warwickshire, what a top, top bowler, competitor and all round bloke!
For me Alan Donald and Shane bond two of the best fast bowling actions I've seen in the game of cricket
ALLAN DONALD and MICHAEL HOLDING : Both have rare combo of " GRACEFUL and FEARSOME" ,i just love them watching...
