For half of a season of Aroldis Chapman, the Cubs gave up Gleyber Torres, 19-year-old SS #26 overall in MLB, Billy Mckinney, 21-year-old #75 prospect in all of MLB, and Adam Warren who later pitched in the majors with the Yankees. A full season of Helsley, plus Arenado, plus Graceffo, plus 15 million for Red Sox #8 and #13. Tell me you are joking.
That’s what I was thinking. The brewers even got a haul for half a season of Hader. I don’t know where this dude is coming from in his trade analysis. Helsley will have huge value after this year he just had and he will surely get more than 2 top 15 prospects
Part of the difference in returns is because those guys were dealt at the deadline. Those deals, thanks to urgency, usually result in larger returns. I think Cardinal fans will be surprised in the return the Cardinals get for Helsley. Also, Boston's farm is one of the best in baseball.
The difference is when he was traded to the Cubs, Chapman was arguably the best closer in MLB. Arenado is on the downside of his career, and is no longer anything close to being the best third baseman in MLB, either offensively or defensively. He’s just not worth as much in 2024 as Chapman was worth in 2016, even for half a season.
My wife is Japanese, and we live in LA, so you can probably guess what her favorite team is, and who her favorite player is lol. But her second favorite player, even over all other Japanese players outside of Ohtani, is Nolan Arenado! She loves him, and watches Cardinal games with me mainly because of him. If he's willing to stay that badly that he's even willing to change positions, which is what I feel he's doing. I think he can see the writing on the wall, that we have several players coming up that can play 3rd, and play it well. By moving to 1st, if any of the guys coming up play as well as we've heard they can at the position, then he actually makes our team dramatically better defensively on the infield. Can you imagine someone coming in that would be a defensive upgrade from Goldy? His range, and certainly his glove and admittedly to a lesser degree because of the position, his arm. To me or sounds like he wants to retire in STL, I'd let him.
St. Louis--Thanks for Tommy Edman!! If he does nothing else, he goes down in Dodger history for one of the greatest playoff performances in club history. Dodger fan in Cardinal land.
@ Hello Dodger Blue. Tommy will have many more great moments! He’s a winning ball player! He fits in real nice with the Dodger AllStar cast. Tommy is a BALL PLAYER!! PERIOD!!! Enjoy the shows! There will be many!!!
@@billgrandone3552 😊”The Boys of Summer” will getter done. They have a nice supporting owner and FO. The Dodgers are at the top of the feeding chain. We who are afar can only envy, wish and admire how the Dodgers raise the bar!
There's no question about it if nolan was kept we'd b more of a playoffs contender were not far off all the club needs is a little help with the young core I wouldn't b mad !!
For the What If segment, I'm thinking that the outcome of next season is totally going to depend on the quantity and quality of the coaches they add all through the system, plus the analytics additions they make, PLUS being able to get through to the players themselves. This reset is going to take some time, I'm thinking. They look to be making solid steps in being able to develop new players, but they aren't done yet. As it stands, I'm expecting a 74-76 win season next year. We'll see how the rest of this off-season plays out though, and how things look in Spring Training. But I'm not expecting anything next year. Maybe in '26, quite probably in '27. The crystal ball is quite foggy at this point.
Let Arenado play a year without Goldy he might go off you never know. There is a saying the smallest thing can hold someone down, Milwaukee traded Burns and moved Counsil to the Cubs and had arguably the greatest season ever last year, no one saw that coming.
I think the whole point of this off-season was to rebuild the club with younger guys. Keeping him and crossing their fingers doesn't really accomplish that. Trade him for some young talent and let Chaim fix the development side of things and come back better.
This team isn’t going to be very good either with Arenado or without him. They might as well trade him now while his value is at its highest. He’s been in decline the past 2 seasons and at age 34, the decline is likely to continue. He could contribute to a contending team, and by trading him now he could bring some decent prospects and give Nolan the opportunity to play for a championship.
These propsed trades to Boston are a bit short on the Cardinals side. Might as well keep Nado another year to see if he gets fixed then. If the people on the other side don't give us anything we need (a haul of prospects or guaranteed 2nd starter or guaranteed hitting production and/or swalloing a lot of his salary) then might as well keep Nado.
I dont know if we can replace his glove just like we will miss goldy but if traded mnot going to get anything more than a double A unless we package someone like Nootbaar Donovan Burleson Fedde to get anything The ideal people would be adding Siani Baker Fermin Thompson or a few of the pitchers not named liberator mathews hence Fernandez
The only one I'm willing to eat money on is Mikolas. If they can pay 500 million for Soto, someone can afford Arenado. In a smaller park like Fenway, Minute Maid, Philly, he is going to revive his offense. We had to trade O'Neill and under sold him.
Cespedes? Where does he play two or three years from now? He’s not moving Winn or JJ at second. Third or OF? Why Cespedes as opposed to an outfielder? Thanks.
I still say that being in a weak division we can rebuild and still compete but they’re saying we don’t know what’s going on so let’s be confused as cheap as possible. To think they didn’t know what was happening with the farm system is nonsense a well.
^^Best comment - they know exactly what's going on... to sum it up... Mo spent DeWitt's money poorly (the last 13 years)... Mo got beat badly on key trades (Alcantara, Gallen, etc) that sent young pitching talent away Mo refused to give this team what it needed (veteran proven manager leadership) because of his ego... Opposite of Blues (Doug Armstrong) who is aggressive and goes after top talent (Broberg) and top 5 coaching (i.e. Montgomery)... as soon as it becomes available* Armstrong makes mistakes (from time to time), but he's aggressive and trying to win (even in a rebuild)... that's all the fans want... Look at the Cincinnati Reds going after Terry Francona... who has 2 world series rings and loves working with young talent... But Mo would never do that, because Francona is not a "yes" man...
The last trade Thomas proposed where the Cardinals would be giving away the best Closer in baseball Ryan Helsley I think would be idiotic. The other two would be alright.
Are any of the people we're trying to acquire a 1st baseman? You mentioned shortstop and a few pitchers. Maybe we can get an actual 1st baseman and have him for 5 years or so. I understand we have prospects for that position but as I understand it, nobody is an actual first baseman.
Concerning Arenado playing First Base, I can almost see that. Mr. Arenado has good lateral movment (left and right). He'[d jsut be doign it at 1st base instead of 3rd base. You know his erflexes are good ebing a 3rd baseman. He'd actally might be better than Wilson Contraras. at first base. so, I do feel it is an option. I dont' see this as a precursor to his being traded. MIke Shannon went from RIght Field to 3rd base to make room for ROger Maris. NOlan Arenaod going to 1st base isnt' quite that drastic. The BIrds defintely have more optoins for 3rd base than 1st base, too. So, it's somethingt o consider. in my humble opinon.
I watch your show everyday. Stop making excuses for the owner of the team to be cheap. In the last 20 years how many teams have won a championship with zero expensive free agents? There hasn't been any. Yes you want to have a core of Young talent. But you have to go out and buy stars also. If the team doesn't want to spend money on Stars they need to sell the team. Or the fans need to stop supporting.
What does it matter the Dodgers are going to win the World Series probably 5 years in a row. Baseball is dead the Dodgers will put the final dagger in due to the screwed up system with MLB. The Cards will finish in last place next year and if they’re lucky will have maybe 1.2 million people visit the ballpark. NO ONE IS EXCITED about Cardinals have you seen the Cardinals running ads telling you how much fun you’ll have in the summer together… NOT HEY COME WATCH US WIN BUT NO COME HAVE FUN NEXT SUMMER! Agree. Or Burleson at DH. Or others. We don't need to trade Nado who still bats league average with a plus glove for just a DH.
