In 1981 I bought 6 of these bikes in crates....the rest is History....a Legend in my own mind....I have owned over 1,000 bikes and this was one of the best....along with the Husky XC500 and the Maico 490 and the and the and the....U get my point....LOL
Hello Blair, thanks for uploading. I have an '80 YZ465 myself and truly love watching you rifle yours around the track. Too bad Florida does not have any tracks like this one.
I'm quite confused about the fender and number plate. It's also interesting to see how this video from 11 years ago is better quality than what my brand new camera takes. I guess that's what happens when you get cheap stuff.
I would like to see the old bikes have a go on a modern SX track. They should add a short vintage race at each SX race. Maybe the same as the LCQ - 4 laps.
I was 16 when I got my first bike in 79'. A 75' 360 Pursang. It's not the bike you should learn on.. but hey. I'm 47 and the sound of that bike still gives me a woody! Jimmy Pommeroy and Chuck Sun are my idols.! Chuck can still beat local pros on a bad day. Jim was our mx ambassador, may you RIP.
wow good race man.I don't think i could do that with my 81 yz465. They are by no means a good handling bike. They kinda feel like a harley on dirt wheels ( i think) lol. I bet you never even once during this race pinned it.They are stupid fast for the year and still to this day.I would love to meet someone who has ever had one pinned 6th gear. That is easily over 100 mph..
ya my bike handles great. I actually like riding it more than my modern bikes sometimes. The guy who we bought that 465 from did a bunch of motor and cylinder work, it's really fast. Its a bitch to start though. but you can lug that bike so low and slow in like 3rd gear, then just roll the throttle on and it gets up to speed quick.
yea mine lost 3rd gear prob 20 years ago and still does not have it. we just shift from 2nd to 4th and it really it does not care.I hope to restore the bike sometime soon.Me and my buddy started riding this bike when we were 13 with no brakes and no kill switch. Yea we were dumb. And we had to push start the bike because the kick start shaft was broke due to a backfire that blew the guys sole off his shoe before we got the bike. These things are just brutal. And i just love the way they idle...
They only had 5 gears ,I took mine to SCOTTS performance in MONTROSE CA and had 4 th stage porting on the cylinder head and front and back suspension set up, It did 70 easily. It was a beast. I used to go to INDIAN dunes by VALENCIA ca. 'SHADOW GLEN AND INTERNATIONAL TRACKS WERE SO FUN. MAN THAT BIKE WAS FUN. Marty Motes won the USGP 500 ON HIS 1980 465, SO i HAD TO GET ONE..
Thomas Mclean.. You don't ride big bores do you..You don't downshift like a 125 in turns.. you waste time and lose momentum along with expend extra energy for no reason.. Watch a bunch of vids of faster guys riding 2 stroke big bores and you might see...
Really ? Laporte went down, and you were in corner with some other dude when he tried to pass. The dude was 250 gp champ man, doubt your gonna be dicing with him. just sayin.
What are you even talking about? I never said laporte went down? And I'm glad that you seem to know how my race went and who I was battling with, I should know since I was the one racing. And yes him and chuck sun were right on me the whole race. So don't try and tell me that you doubt I was dicing with him

That old Husky can hustle along also, great to see got to be the bikes with the most character late seventies through the 80's in my humble opinion.
Great video! You rode super... Danny and Chuck Sun, wow, way to go! Thanks for posting!

I remember the old YZs monoshock suspension and how it would kick back and just about ram ya spine thru the top of ya head..
Awesome bike and cool track

Had a YZ 465.....was handy to pull my truck out if I got stuck......
I guess your doing well considering who your bangin bars with😎👍 cool bike
Πολυ αμπραγιαζ κανεις. Το Γάμησές το μηχανάκι
The old bikes do cool slides
In those tight coners dont pull in the clutch and ease around them shift down a gear and throttle it out
Thomas Maclean exactly

Go through a lot of clutches? Why does your bike bog down so much?
Good run bro .

06-09 yzf front fender lol
Fun to watch! thanks for uploading, is #44 Laporte?
Wonder what happened to that Maico? He was doing so good
Maico's were awesome, so awesome. I had a 250 and later a 490. I was faster on the 250 because the 490 was just too much power for skillset.
Awesome!
can i see your bike
Down shift?
what do you mean downshift?
Obviously hasn't ridden a big bore two-stroke, lol
1:58 your welcome
No polutions control always 2t cross
