      I actually find it rude when someone in a losing position doesn't resign. At my junior level it's more acceptable since blunders are very likely, but at a grandmaster level you're just wasting your opponent's time. The polite move, in my opinion, is to accept that you've lost, shake hands, and end the game.

    I always like matches between Magnus and members of his prep team, mostly Dubov and Van Foreest, because they know each other so well especially when it comes to opening shenanigans.

      @@ahouyearno no. Lol there are plenty of foundation for his accusation. Proof he doesn't have, but players in any sport are fully allowed to raise suspicion over any player if they feel there is something suspicious. Finding proof is authorities job, but player should raise suspicion.
      Chess shouldn't be any different. Especially when the target is a person already found guilty multiple times in professional games.
      Also Magnus is playing better cause he wants to win every thing now that he is soon gonna lose the world champion title as he said in the interview. Don't insert that guilty online cheater's name everywhere.

      @@ostermalmi1 I believe back in the day he had to turn down his speakers, otherwise unrelated noise from his computer would be picked up on his mic. Therefore, he apologized ("Sorry about that") for leaving his speakers so high that us viewers would hear that noise, then he proceeded to adjust the output volume to address it. He no longer has that issue but pretends to every few videos or so as a run on joke that never gets old!

      @@raylopez99 it's an old running gag from the channel. Agadmator covered the tournament and showed the standings many times, both in relation to that and other discussions of involved players, particularly Tal.
      Consequently, it became a joke for him to show the results as much as possible, even if it wasn't needed. For example, if you watch some of the videos he published after his coverage of the tournament sometimes he'll show the standings even if the video is about a totally unrelated game between two players who didn't even play in the tournament.
      I hope this has improved your vast knowledge for you to share with your friends at the bar and the library.

    What was with all the do-si-dos with the night in the bishop on D5? After fighting you get the night to D5 what changed to make it move without obvious provocation and the bishop to take its place? Now I know the night went back because the queen was on E7. I just don't understand why it moved in the first place.

    I think it is difficult to compare players across eras and say that one was definitively greater than another. I consider Carlsen to be one among five players who utterly dominated their generation, along with Morphy, Capablanca, Fischer, and Kasparov.

      Capablanca to Fischer: ~50 years
      Fischer to Kasparov: ~30 years
      Kasparov to Carlsen: ~15 years
      If history is an indicator, we should expect the next great dominant chess player after Carlsen to appear any day now!

      well no one has completed anything, for example no one besides magnus has WC title in this generation , and if we count kasparov anand etc they are missing lots of stuff
      also you cant count chess960 as its not the same chess, has no rating points. it's like atomic chess, side variation

      World Cup is not that much important though it's just one of the qualifiers for candidates, which is the only qualifier for wc. Hence:
      Standard World championship>> world cup.
      And as for 960 wc, now that he has given up standard title probably he can now start focusing on gaining a 960 title as well.
      But given the history of chess, still classical wc> 960 wc, but I am sure even carlsen wants atleast one 960 wc title as well.

    I think Kasparov was GOAT in the pre-computer era, and Magnus is the GOAT afterwards. A lot harder to remain #1 in today's global competition, imo

    In any other era, Ding, Dubov, and the rest of the top 20 would be worshiped as chess visionaries...but with MC, they are mere second fiddle. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but MC is on another level.
