    Recipe:
4-5 lbs. Frozen Italian Meatballs(or vegetarian, or vegan meatballs)
1 can (16oz) Sloppy Joe Sauce (Hunt's Manwich Sauce)
2 cups BBQ Sauce (I used sweet baby ray's)
2 cups Grape Jelly (Welches concord grape jelly)
    1/2 cup ketchup
    1/2 cup sweet chili sauce.
Place all ingredients in crock-pot, turn on low heat for 8hrs or more. To make them faster you can use high heat for 2hrs or until the meatballs are hot.
You can also use vegetarian or vegan meatballs such as those from Quorn, they work well for this recipe and I've made mini patches for parties for non-meat eaters.

I added some regular yellow mustard, I guess you could use whatever you prefer, Worcestershire sauce, splash of malt vinegar, and minced onion the second time I made these.

Thanks! I've done this with homemade meatballs and they tended to be a bit soft and fall apart. The pre-fab ones from the store then to be stiffer and get quite soft in the crockpot. So if you do use homemade nana's recipe meatballs, you might be able to cut back on the length of time the meatballs need to crockpot. Good luck! Let me know how it goes!

    • @LeeLooface
      @LeeLooface 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

I haven't made them yet, but now that I have the recipe I will be making them soon. I had Grape-Jelly Meatballs at a Christmas Party once or maybe even twice. These are the best meatballs I have ever ate, everybody wanted the recipe. But not many people got the recipe cause it was an old family recipe. Because you mentioned Mom & where she worked (Hunt's Manwich Sauce) led me to think this might be the secret recipe. If this happens to be the same guy from that Christmas Party. It would be nice to know I have his guarded secret recipe now. We played slow-pitch softball together in Riverside, Ca. Allstate Christmas Party.

The other sauces have more flavor so it masks it but you can taste a hint of the jelly. If you use something like black berry or straw berry jam it taste more fruity. If you prefer another jam or to use some honey instead the recipe works fine

Thanks for this video. I am doing this tomorrow. About same amount. The 8 hours has me worried though. Does it really take that long to heat all the way through on low? Or, is it about the flavor development? Help... And Thanks again.

No it doesn't take that long, you just need it heated all the way through. THe flavors do mellow more and the meatballs shrink a bit by 8hrs but it works for parties. If you want to do it on the stove it would be way faster to get it heated up, and you can pour into a crock pot to serve hot at the party.

I made this for my party and it was great!!! You really need to tell people to make way more than they think they will need. My party goers went through these things in fifteen minutes. As for the timing, I heated from frozen for about an hour on high and then went to low for three more hours and they were perfect. I will do this again soon and won't change a single thing about your recipe. Thanks so much!

I saw "Grape jelly BBQ Meatballs" and thought, huh? I never imagined grape jelly being an ingredient in any BBQ recipe, so I had to take a look. You didn't do a taste test or describe what these taste like, but I'm still curious enough that I may actually try this. But, my Italian wife might kill me in my sleep if I ever bought frozen meatballs, so I'll have to make them from scratch.

If you do them from scratch I'd suggest make about 1/2 the sauce to just simmer the meatballs on the stove. If you crockpot them that long they will melt into meat sauce. The reason to use frozen is they aren't as tender and juicy, so you can cook them super long and they'll hold up still.

I never tried grape jelly when making a meatball sub. Can you taste the jelly at all.
