This sounds so nostalgic, like I’ve heard it a thousand times in a past life. And yet I’ve never heard this song before.
Reminds me of one of those days where you wake up early, dead early to the point its still dark and there's a thick fog which layers across the forest floor. There's a mist on things that makes everything feel slightly damp and even colder while there's a gentle brisk breeze as a soft rain fall endues. And you just sit there on the porch, looking out at the forest as it gets lighter and the fog slowly lifts.
Why did this comment almost make me cry

this is one of those songs that physically hurts to listen to. I know some people think it's weird to have it written about a bog body, but it's truly beautiful in a specific way where it's more about the mystery and romance of discovery rather than the physical romance described in the lyrics. Something about the small connection and fleeting glimpse into someone else's past life is really beautiful despite the gruesome reality of a bog body. I think this is also why I've seen people comment it feels nostalgic for something they've never known because that's essentially what the song is about, falling in love with a past that you'll never know. Hozier really did an amazing job of capturing the poetry of irish bogs in this way.
Thanks to this comment, I learned this song was written about a bog body and I learned what a bog body is! I also learned about the tollund man and that july 27 is international bog day!!

Hozier's songs and this background noise are a perfect meditattion music.
My grandparents live in the woods (somewhere) and sitting on their porch as it rains feels and sounds exactly like this. The odd birds out in the rain, drops hitting the leaves and then the soft grass which would be covered by green moss in some places come morning, wind splattering rain against the screen and sometimes coming through and soaking into the wood panels of the floor. The chill of a gust of wind that makes you shiver but you won't put on a jacket because the rain clinging to your skin feels as though you are a part of it, a part of the nature around you.
And then of course, add Hozier music to that, and you *are* one with nature.

Can relate
I can feel the cold on my skin, even though I'm in a sweater. Chills are going up and down my arms and legs. Yet I'm in a 70 (F) degree home.
I can feel the wooden porch below my shoes, even though my feet are touching carpet.
I can smell the earthy scent, but pine as well, even though I'm no where near a forest.
When I close my eyes, I can see forest for what seems like forever and yet I'm in the comfort of my own home, looking at my computer on my desk.
I don't know if anyone else feels like that but I tried to look for a word for this feeling and I guess the best one I can say is imagination.

This brings back memories of going to our cabin in southern New Hampshire as a kid. We had a porch that looked exactly like the picture. I spent so many afternoons on that deck doing puzzles and reading. Simpler times.
This makes my heart ache for some reason. I would do so much to be sitting on a cabin porch at dawn as someone sings next to me. This sounds more realistic than any other video like this I have ever seen, thank you so much for making this

This reminds me of Nature Camp. One summer it rained all two weeks of camp, so we would huddle on the porches and draw/write stories, sing together, play mafia or other games. It was a much simpler time.
Here's a story for your troubles.
I had a puppy. My dogs runt of the litter. He was a beautiful dog, golden with white around his paws and nose like he had just came down from heaven sniffing and playing in the clouds. That puppy immidiately meant the world to me. I don't know how, I don't know why, but I felt a connection to that dog that I had never felt before. Like I had had him my entire life, like he was some sort of long lost friend. I kept that puppy with me every day.
The puppies had to stay in a hot cage (not crate, CAGE made out of plastic) with the entrance having bricks up againts it for hours in the heat on our porch. We lived with my mothers boyfriends grandmother, and she "didn't want them ruining her house" as if having them in our room was going to hurt her house.
So they stayed there for days yelping and panting. I always turned the AC on for them and let them out but I still felt awful. I occasionally took out Herc and held him close but ended up having to put him back as he wet my bed a few times. Their poor paws were getting infected snd there was always urine everywhere.
One day, without asking us, my mothers boyfriends father came over with a giant crate and started DEMANDING they go outside. They were only a couple months old at this point, and I protested to all hell. I had Herc in my arms and was crying that they would *die* out there. This was in the middle of the country, the bottom part of the house was falling apart so snakes could slither up to them, coyotes could bite them through the gate or dig in, ect. He got *pissed.* I wouldn't let go of Herc.
Eventually it was made, the puppies were outside and it looked fine so I thought I could trust it. I put him outside. First night? Fine.
Few days after went alright.
But then the day came. I was sitting in the window of our house porch since I didn't get data anywhere inside, listening to this exact song on loop. My mom came outside to smoke, took one look outside, and her expression just.. dropped.
"Is that what I think it is?"
"Huh? What?"
"Oh no.."
I went to look as she screamed to her boyfriend "CHARLIE, THEYRE EATING ONE OF THE PUPPIES!". I just mumbled no in disbelief, until eventually I fell to the floor in hestarics (sorry, can't spell it). I was screaming that it was his grandmas fault for telling his dad to do that behind our backs but my mom kept hitting me on the back telling me to shut up and not say that. She was seriously more concerned about keeping the place instead of a traumatic event going on for her own child. I ran outside and the scene was gruesome.
He was dead. One of the dogs (biggest, his name was Ganon) was licking his busted open stomach (I'm sorry for the grim picture).
They put him in a suitcase as I hugged one of the outside dogs, Sassy. This is going to sound so weird but that dog understood me. She watched them bury him and held her head down so I could cry into her. We have always been close since I first met her.
They laughed the entire time they burried the only happy thing I'd ever had in my life. They burried my baby and *LAUGHED* about it. I was so angry and so upset I just couldn't move. I cried and cried and cried some more.
Days went by, I sat by his grave every day. Today is Mon, Apr 5 and I'll never get over this. This song is the last thing I have of my precious puppy. It's like this song connects our souls. It hurts me in a way nothing has ever hurt me before but comforts me like no other.
Long story, but I'm just so glad so many are listening to this song. I have trauma from that day, and I'll always cry over this. People deserve to hear his story. Six puppies. Lil Hershie was killed by Ganon, Venus is alive still caged up in the back of their house with another dog, Hercs gone, Ace got a good family, BB stayed with us and we still have her. Second runt, real lazy piece of work, and Ganon the murderer passed away awhile back.
He took alot of lives. A ton of dogs, ones scross the road and ones wandering around lost. Sassy is still alive and living a good life out there. I visit her occasionally. It's been about four years now.
Rest in peace, Herc. I love you. I'll see you again some day.
That's a real story you have there. I'm glad some of the dogs made it; I'm sorry for those that didn't. This must have been horrible for you to experience, but know that those dogs definitely loved you as you loved them. I know how hard it is losing a pet you've bonded with so take it from me, they loved you.

If you ever feel lonely then watch the sky, because you know, someone, at the same time is watching the sky too, maybe feeling the same way..I am glad you exist and I hope you won’t ever remove your own spot in this world, maybe you don’t feel like you belong here but, Angel, then build your home here. I don’t want you to leave this world unhappy. I want you to live every little second, I want you to feel alive, I don’t want you to see yourself just existing. You deserve it. Whatever happened, it’s not your fault, the demons in your head recognize that you have a beautiful heart, they want to take it because they have never seen such beautiful heart as yours, so why let them win over you? . You’re not selfish for isolating yourself, but you deserve to talk to someone. If you’re reading this than please never forget to breath and smile.
Don’t live up to other standards! It’s your story and not theirs.
Life for those who couldn’t, smile for those who forgot what a genuine smile is, love like there’s no other, hug like its your last one.
