Trolling massive WEEDLINE for Mahi! Catch and Cook

- In this episode we head offshore on the Shallow Sport X3 bay boat in search of mahi. We find a nice weedline and within a few minutes get into some action. After fishing for half a day we have plenty for dinner and head back to Bud n' Mary's Marina to clean them up. At home we break out the new fish fryer and have a feast! Enjoy!

I miss my summers in the Keys but I have a lifetime of great memories we always bleed all of our fish and they tasted better expecially if you had to freeze some and Skipjacks were favorite tuna someone with thinly sliced them and quick-flip them on a grill or raw they were excellent

Mahi is still on my list, we fish/charter boats out of destin and no luck on a mahi yet, crossed sailfish off recently which was so awesome. When released that sucker went straight back down into the depths, really cool to see.

I guess we're speaking Hawaiian here in Florida these days. 😂 They'll always be dolphin to me.
They used to be “dolphin” for me and all of us growing up but the name shifted the mahi with all the of tourists. We used to laugh when people called them mahi and now 20 years later we do 🤷🏻♂️

I fed the tarpon there. Surprisingly we had manatees eating fish scraps as well. Im from Mississippi and unfamiliar with them. I always assumed manatees were vegetarians.
Manatees are suppose to be, but the last decade a lot eat fish in the marinas and canals now

2 summers ago me and my family stayed at the lime tree bay resort Just South of you guys. We rented a boat a couple days and we went to bud n Mary's for bait And I grabbed one of your performance shirts from the store there actually the same one that you're wearing in this video. I saw you there the 1 day but you looked like you where really busy and at the time you had just got the new Freeman. It wasn't even wrapped yet. I don't think you had even showed it on the TH-cam channel at that point. Just before we left to go back to our condo in Hollywood Florida We stopped and let the kids feed all the tarpin with the extra bait we had left over.

Would you be comfortable going out in 2 to 3’s in the x3?
It does great in a chop but I wouldn’t recommend running offshore in 3 footers. A foot or two chop is fine but it is still a bay boat
@@StanzFam so you think it would handle offshore kind of similar to a 25 contender bay or pathfinder 25?
Interested for myself since we live in Fort Lauderdale. I do not like going out on a 32ft in anything rough.
We primarily use it on the west coast in rookery bay but would love to go for the mahi on days permitting
My brother has a 25 contender bay and the X3 rides a lot better in a chop than his boat. The x3 isn’t as fast, but I prefer the comfort. We had a 24 pathfinder bayboat for years and the x3 is a lot more comfortable and much better built boat than it was. Not even comparable in my book. I’m not familiar with the 25 pathfinder so I can’t honestly compare them, but the X3 has been a great boat for us so far. It’s a Great bay boat and when weather is decent enough to take it offshore we do it all the Time.

You sir, have clearly never worked at Popeyes or Bojangles.
Try yellow corn meal and flour add salt pepper and season pepper. No egg wash. And set peanut oil at 350 not 400. Try it you will like it 😊

How come you haven’t been useing your freeman as much? Because of gas? Or do you have another fisherman running charcters
I had to cut back on chartering due to some some health issues the past 15 months so my deckhand Capt Mike has been running most of the charters. We’ve been going out on the bay boat when it’s calm and making TH-cam videos to keep the Channel going and the bay boat costs a fraction to operate compared to the freeman.

Nick. Thanks for the content and I was hoping you could help me with a question on the X3. What is the bridge clearance height on the water. I only ask as I am moving from FTL to Pt. Charlotte and notice some of the bridges are low, about 10 feet or lower in some spots. The X3 looks are deceiving.
We’ll have to try to measure. I would guess between 9-10’ but not positive

Most of the Mahi I have seen so far this year have been really small! How about down there? Actually the ones you caught are some of the bigger ones I’ve seen.
Definitely a lot of small ones here. It’s been hit and miss so far the past couple months too. A few nice ones on the dock but very few
How does the Yamaha engines compare to the Suzuiki in price and fuel consumption?
Yamaha is more expensive but for good reason. The amount of hours we put on our 300’s is impressive. I rode on X’s with both brand engines but don’t recall the fuel burn. The first ride was 3 years ago.

I am nick stanzick I charge you 2000$ to go fish and I only have two Sabeckis to catch bait, and I have no cast net. And I’m always late to the boat and I am the best and it’s a privilege to just fish with me.
$4000* on the 42 Freeman. (They’re not cheap plus inflation). I don’t offer charters on the X3. Definitely not late 🙂

I fkin hate it when I take the charter, pay all that money and a little thing is delayed or someone does something that is a bit different either the captain or the mate yells. What would you do if u went to restaurant and waiter yells at u for maybe using a spoon instead of fork? For me it just ruins the day.
Most fisherman are just passionate and want to catch fish , kind of like a football coach being hard on their players. People shouldn’t take it personally.

They would have to be some of the smallest dolphin fish I’ve ever seen.
Check out some Gulf of Mexico videos where dolphin have no size limit.
I get tired of people calling them Mahi you sound like an amateur. If you live in Hawaii sure call them Mahi but in key west it's a dolphin
We always called them dolphin growing up and laughed when clients called them mahi, but with the age of the Internet and confusion with the masses thinking they were dolphin (mammals) we started calling them mahi. Key West is a different place, anyone can live the lifestyle and talk the lingo they want
Also called Dorado in different locations around the globe.
