    Aye! You pulled the trigger on a RB5009! Have fun! It's an incredible little box. I got mine recently and it's been working a treat. The builtin Wireguard is very nice thanks to routerOS v7.

      Now I know you have one also, I’ll keep you in mind as my questions pop up. 😁

    Man ... you are funny ... Indeed the initial config is plug and play, but the depth of the RouterOS is incredible. The best part is the firewall: I learned to create port knocking to allow access only to myself and brute force blocker; after 3 tries it adds the address to blocklist for a set amount of time ... I think Mikrotik is awesome!!!

    This may be kind of odd question, but does yours have different serial number on the box and on the sticker bottom of the router itself? Just got mine and serial numbers on the box and on the router are otherwise the same, but last numbers are different.

    So cable from modem goes into 2.5g port? computer plugged into 1 gig port? why carn't it output 2.5g straight into computer? can you test 1 gig sqm functionality plz?

    • @PaulWarrenEaton
      @PaulWarrenEaton  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes that’s correct for the default setup. But then when connected to the unit it’s possible to configure ports differently so you don’t need to use the 2.5g port for the modem. Which in my case is a waste given that my internet is rated a max download speed of 1g.
      Hoping to do some more tests soon. 1 Gbps I can do. Later I’ll look at some devices at 10 Gbps. But need to buy more gear first.

    Hi. Can you explain steps to connect to ISP via SFP port ? My ISP requires a PPPoE connection. Thanks.

    • @PaulWarrenEaton
      @PaulWarrenEaton  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Usually you will still have a modem in between the ISP and this router. In my setup I have a modem running in bridge mode, so the modem doesn’t do much but it’s still needed to connect to the ISP. With the RB5009 you will still need a modem.

      Good ones to compare. At a quick glance the RB5009 just appears to be a newer version but with some extra performance and features. But less total ports. Perhaps it depends what you need in your setup.

    plug&play device? ...what if your ISP requires a PPPoE connection to be properly set, not just a DHCP client on the Ethernet1 port?

    • @PaulWarrenEaton
      @PaulWarrenEaton  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually there are quick settings to handle that also in this router. Ok so this particular device from MikroTik is not meant to be plug&play. They make other devices for that ease. But I was (and still am) impressed that I got this router and the access point hooked up and running fairly easily. I was expecting hours of tinkering.
