um no. from what i understand, she helped him to break her own heart, that's the point. She did all the bad things he did, but she ended up being the one who suffered from the aftermath and he got away.
i think it means she kinda helped him break her own heart. it makes a lot of sense with some of the other things she says in this song and on the album. and it could also mean like she went along with him and all his bad ideas and they made so much trouble, so both their hands were red... but in the end, after all that he still left her and her heart was broken. cause in the song she also sings about how she knew was going down but she thought she was doing it with him and he would go down too so it was okay. but actually he didn’t go down, his heart didn’t get broke. so like they both committed crimes but she was the only one who had consequences and repercussions, she was the only one who “got caught” sheesh that line is so packed and genius. so many different meanings.

This song has a special place in my heart. I was born and brought up in a Catholic family in Texas and my boyfriend was born and brought up in a strict Hindu family back in India. He moved to the states for college around four years ago. We met in class and instantly fell for each other. The difference in our races created many obstacles for us. I love that she included other women to sing the harmonies it kind of makes a statement too. Like the other girls could have been other girls hurt by this person and Olivia sings about being his favorite but the girls are singing that part too to show solidarity.

thats so true. i have been watching so many videos of people singing them. everyone has that song from her cd they like the most and its always different which is rare cause usually when a singer releases a cd all anyone talks about is the songs the singer has on the radio and in the meantime i'm like the only person who likes every song while nobody listens to them all. shes gotta be the first singer this has happened to that i know of

It’s such a bittersweet thing. Like he broke her heart, yes, but she played a part in it because she still gave him her heart despite all the red flags and doubts that were shown throughout and before their relationship. And the sad part is...you’ll do it all again if it meant you could still be with that person. They broke your heart into a million pieces, but each one still belonged to them if they wanted it.
