    Honestly, I think Garp chasing down Luffy the minute he finds out he started being a pirate was a really fun choice. Its totally in character for Garp to go after Luffy in the East Blue and kick his ass for a bit and then just let him be a pirate anyways.

      I think the idea was good but the execution was meh. Garp turned into a worried grandpa just to become supportive at the last 5 minutes without the prior idea that he's a crazy guy just like Luffy. I think having him there also gives more importance to Luffy. We are not following a random kid that just happens to be strong, but we are following the grandson of a famous marine trying to follow his dreams. It puts tension to his character but also a reason for him to be strong physically and morally.

      that's what a B plot is for though, to kinda of disembark you from the main plot with otee stories
      and this is a series with hour long episodes so they have to have some sort of B plot

      I mean, the "B Plot" with Garp and Koby-Meppo was in the Manga... they meet shortly after Luffy left, so this is pretty accurate.

    I like how Garp was dragged in tge 1st season. It brings fresh plot for OP fans like me. They way they focus on Koby's character developmemt, seems like they're trying to show Garp's dissapontment on Luffy's decicion to become a pirate. So, he treat Koby as a replacement of Liffy in a Marine.

    • @emanuelrodriguez9044
      @emanuelrodriguez9044 ปีที่แล้ว +24

       I liked seeing more of Garp’s and Koby’s relationship and him mentoring Koby and Helmepoo. It gave us more exposure to the marines and the characters that we barely get in the manga. It also makes complete sense that Garp would do everything in his power to stop his grandson from becoming a pirate so he wouldn’t end up on the wrong path or worse being killed in the Grandline or executed by the World Government like Roger was. It helped develop Koby further and develop his friendship and similar parallelism Garp and Roger had that he has with Luffy. Same way it helped develop Koby and Helmepoo friendship. It was awesome seeing Garp talk with Mihawk and Zeff because we rarely see Garp or any of those characters interact with more then a few characters. Seeing more of Bogard was cool too, meaning Oda hasn’t forgotten about him either. Even for any screentime they shared with characters like Sanji and Ussop those are main characters that will have thousand of moments in future seasons for us to have more of them when we will only see Garp, Helmepoo, and Koby every once in awhile future. At the end of the day the anime and manga will always be there for you to enjoy. The live action will be different and there’s no need to get bugged by changes when Oda and the crew are working in a different medium and have to do what they think is best for this version of the story. I personally think they knocked it out of the park especially with how they did Garp.

    Alabasta will be a huge milestone for this show. If they make it past that and do it justice, this project will have been a massive success. I don't think we should worry about anything beyond that for now.
    I think the best way to do it would be to have Alabasta be it's own season and let season 2 deal with all the setup like introducing Smoker, Baroque Works, Vivi and Chopper. They cant properly do alabasta without a entire season dedicated to just alabasta itself. Too much happens there with Baroque works, Crocodile and vivi and the Rebel army. to do logue town to drum properly it would take a full season. 1 Episode for loguetown, 1 for reverse mountain, 1 for whiskey peak, 2 for little garden, and 3 for Drum. Because they have to do the 1 episode with luffy carrying Nami up the mountain with sanji. Then the flashback for Chopper. And then Beating Wapol. And they cant cut whiskey peak because that has to be there to establish Crocodile hunting them after Zoro takes out the 100 bounty hunters, and Vivi asking them for help there. To cut anything at this point would only hurt it's narrative going forward. With Alabasta there is too much content even if you cut some. They have to do Smoker and Tashigi, they have to Do Ace, Which that would be 1 episode by itself. Then Rain base would be a second episode. The Fight with Luffy and Crocodile its own episode. a 4th to set up the final stretch and robin and pell helping luffy. Then the rest the final battles in Alubarna. Alabasta would be a bastardized version if it didnt have a full season to itself.

Loguetown, Reverse Island, Whiskey Peak, Drum island, Little Garden, all of those arks are just as long or longer than the ones these 8 episodes covered. As long as Oda is there to help make decisions, I cant imagine Alabasta is going to make it in the next batch. Just to make room, youd need to cut half of those, and to be honest I can see a pretty successful season two just spent covering those 5 arks, with the hype for what comes next driving the show forward to a third season. Perosnally, I definitely wouldnt mind the last episode being them finding shore at Alabasta, with an end credits teaser of Ace just like they did with Smoker.

      But none of those arcs are particularly eventful for a season storyline and can easily be condensed. The purpose of the live action is to create a bite-sized version of the original story, they can pretty easily fit each of those arcs into a single hour episode with Alabaster being the remaining episodes. Whiskey Peak is one that could even be skipped altogether in my opinion or just be like half an episode long.

    • @jacksonroy8720
      @jacksonroy8720 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@MidnightEkaki they can be more than eventful with a proper b plot. Smoker chasing them across the ocean would create some pretty good tension, and aside from that, how they handle vivi and baroque works can supplement the rest. If they format it as more of an unraveling mystery from island to island, then it ends in a climax where they discover who Mr 0 is along with vivi, then it'd set up season 3 perfectly. Yeah they'd have to change a little bit, but nothing major, and they've already kind of done that in season 1.

      @maksymmazurok6120 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      if they stretch it like this then we will need 20+ seasons to cover the whole thing. And with 2-3 years per season that's 40-60 years... So basically that dooms the whole idea.
      The only chance for them to keep it alive is to get to the timeskip in 3-4 seasons. And if show will not be dead by that point, use a timeskip to kickstart an interest for a second half.
      You have to accept that there is absolutely no way for the live show to capture more then just very essential parts of the story abd it has nothing to do with any arcs being good or bad.
      Honestly, I can totally see them majorly rewriting further big arcs into 1-2 episodes and skipping every small and non-essential arcs.

    • @jacksonroy8720
      @jacksonroy8720 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@maksymmazurok6120 They will never cover the whole thing. One piece itself isn't even done yet, and live action takes so much longer than animation to produce. I see it a lot where people talk about what Thriller bark may look like, or how cool whole cake might be. The show will never reach that, no matter how good it might be. Enjoy it for what it is, the audience for it is not the exact same as the anime or mange viewers. A lot of people who are watching it have zero experience in the series, and thus don't have the knowledge to want to rush to what's next. The ones that do have the actual show they can turn to, and that's part of the point of the live action. It's not meant to be a full replacement

    100% on a weekly episode release . Half the fun around big shows like GOT, TWD, & BB was the week long anticipation and build up. It made for “must see TV” and communal events around the episodes. Netflix really doesn’t DO this often and they’re missing out big time IMO.

  • @TheSkullivan12

    Given the pace of the live action, I could see how they could conceivably work Alabasta into a single season. Loguetown and the approach to Reverse Mountain in one episode. Laboon/Crocus and Whiskey Peak in the second. Little Garden could be condensed into a single episode since it’s not all that long. Two episodes for Drum Island. Leaving the final three episodes to cover Alabasta, which would be plenty of time to cover all the major points. Of course I’d love to see it extended just as much as anyone else, realistically it’s not impossible to pull off.

      @dontmisunderstand6041 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      To properly pace the scenes, I'd put loguetown, reverse mountain, and laboon all in the same episode. Whiskey peak is just a single fight scene, so you could either use it as a way to keep people hyped for the reason of the season by putting it at the end of episode 1, or get people hyped to watch the next episode with the fight scene at the start. Either way episode 2's bulk being Little Garden just works. I wouldn't want to waste 2 episodes on drum island but unfortunately chopper is too important not to... so then you have 4 episodes left for basically just alabasta. And honestly, I think that leaves a lot of room at the end for One Piece's usual saga wrap-up stuff, just like season 1 ended with.

      We gotta accept that a lot of things are gonna get cut in S2. First in the list is Laboon and the giants (too expensive). They gotta focus on the more important stories, that is drum island and Alabasta. Chopper needs at least 1 ep, Alabasta probably at least 4. So the first 3 eps is where you fit everything from Lougetown to Drum Island. So if they do include Laboon and the giants, they could be turned as ‘stories’ or ‘legends’ told by a character within the ep like Noland in S1, and not show anything, and that’s fine. I’m just amazed we’re seeing a live action of One Piece that doesn’t suck!

    I liked the Garp subplot in the LA. It does make some sense that he would try and crush Luffy's career before it began. The biggest issue is perhaps how they went about it. Another issue is that they have to get new fans interested as well. If they are to have even a slight chance at more than one season they need old and new fans wanting to see more.

    Thoughts on the alleged Dragon actor are mixed atm, but what's more concerning is how they'll render Robin, Chopper, Vivi, and Sir Crocodile. I really hope we'll get more than 8 episodes considering Alabasta was a really big arc pre-timeskip, and that each episode is approached with the same dedication and passion we saw in season 1. I also really hope Jamie Lee Curtis will be Dr. Kureha. Overall they did amazing with season 1, but the real question is can Matt's team do it again and bless us with another amazing season?

    • @icefox94
      @icefox94 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      i'm not too worried about vivi and crocodile, they look fairly normal and it seems easy enough to create sandstorms for movies and whatnot they probably won't have issues with croc's devil fruit. i imagine robin's devil fruit will be a similar difficulty to buggy's and they did really well with him. i'm really only worried about chopper, but i think they can pull it off with what we've seen of the fishmen, denden mushi, and lord of the coast.
      for jamie lee curtis being doctor kureha, she seemed excited about the possibility during an interview that asked her about it and if they can get Aurora to sing nami's theme and ian mcshane as the narrator, i don't see why they couldn't get jamie lee curtis to act in a series she seems to really like.

    E1 - Loguetown/Reverse Mountain
    E2 - Laboon/Whiskey Peak
    E3 - Little Garden 1
    E4 - Little Garden 2
    E5 - Drum 1
    E6 - Drum 2
    E7 - Meeting Bon Clay on the way to Alabasta
    E8 - Arrival at Alabasta (Cliffhanger revealing Ace to be Luffy's brother)

If they can use an animatronic for some of their static scenes and only reserve using a CGI Chopper for big fight scenes or very emotive scenes, they could avoid not cutting most of the scenes which Chopper is in and on the plus side it would give alot of the actors something on set to react to and interact with during scenes with chopper.

    The most practical option for Chopper that doesn’t involve a massive character change is to keep him in his full human form and use his hybrid form sparingly. This works out narratively because Chopper would sometimes uses his full human form to try to fit in, but fail. This allows them to hire a regular actor in a costume and have the Straw Hats be the first outsiders to accept him in his human form giving him a reason to make it his primary form instead of his hybrid form

    I still think that OPLA is its own story and naturally plays out differently. I‘m not as much into the manga/anime, just tuned in since Gear Fifth, so maybe my perspective is another. To me, it’s most important that OPLA: hits the necessary plot points and emotional beats (watched in German sync and Luffy had a threat in his voice I never heard in the anime before), focuses on how it portrays emotion and feelings in this new medium, and much to my relief keeps the insults between Zoro and Sanji down. Like, right now, it’s a respectful rivalry, anything beyond that would lead into cartoonish absurdity. To me, eight episodes minimum an hour each are the perfect format to consume One Piece. I hope that they keep doing what they do with the feelings between characters, because then I have no doubt in my mind that this is going to be a fantastic story
