Nintendo Switch Joycon drifting fix using a piece of card stock to put pressure on the back of the metal plate to increase the contact on the graphite sensor.

How is this fix still holding up? Did it actually fix the drift permanently or was it a temporary solution?

Unfortunately, it only lasted a couple months and then it started drifting again. I suspect that the plastic back plate started to bend and no longer provided the necessary pressure on the joycon plate. If there was a screw in the middle of the joycon back plate I think it would work much longer but since that doesn't exist I no longer recommend this fix.
