Phil Rudd is a pure Rock''n'Roll drummer because he added swing. Malcolm loved his style and said that Phil was always welcome back after his time-out Reply
That's the point for me. This vid is about the album Back in Black and Phil Rudd plays the drums, so why would you feature a photo of Simon Wright, who came along for a couple of albums after Flick of the Switch.
I remember seeing that tour when I was about 15! Yes, the bell! That huge fucking bell! Blew my 15 year-old head off, man! Never forget it! Helped turn me into a musician! And I actually got to play some huge stages along the way! Rock 'n' roll!!!!
Man ever time I listen to back in black it takes me back to the early 80s when I was a kid and man did we ever wore that album out. And when I got lucky to see AC/DC in concert it was one of the best if not the best concert I had been to. And I got lucky to meet Angus Young after the concert me and a few other guy were in the parking lot where there tour bus was and saw Angus walking to the tour bus with I guess was his body guard or one of his crew and he saw us standing there and just walked over to us and just started talking to us. Man what a down to earth kind a guy and a real cool dude.
I have always loved AC/DC since my mom brought home Dirty Deeds and my brother and I heard for the first time way back in the late 70's..they were a phenomenal rock band and the best thing to ever come out of Australia..the groves on every track are simply the best and when we learned of Bon's tragic untimely death just floored us..Bon, in my opinion is the best lead singer besides Ozzy..his voice is iconic to say the least..BUT WAIT..there's more!..then Back In Black comes out and AC/DC did something I don't think any band could pull off and that was replacing him with the equally iconic voice of Brian Johnson who help catapult them to super stardom and now to legends of rock..they will always be my favorite band! R.I.P. Ronald "Bon" Scott
I hear all the time Bon wrote the lyrics for some of the songs, while I don't disagree that Bon had some input before he passed.the lyrical style is nothing like Bons writing.
Bon Scott passed one week after Malcolm said " We have laid down the music and will be ready for you to put your lyrics to the next album in a week or two". Bon's DNA was over that album and his remaining family still get royalties from Back in Black, which was was released 4 months after Bon passed, 2 and a half months afterr Brian joined the band. Back in Black became the 2nd best seller behind Thriller. Brion has been awesome but he was never a song writer. Listen to the almums that followed, written by the Young brothers. Great upload !! Cheers and respest to all members. Johno from Australia. Ps. In My experienced humble opinion Bon Scott wrote the lyrics for 7 of those songs and his lyrics book has still never been seen since that dreadful night . He always had it with him
It's almost guaranteed that the young brothers got ahold of it because I believe they cleaned out his apartment. Would hate to think of someone else finding it.
Saw an interview once with this girl who Bon Scott was seeing at the time if ya know what I mean, and she was almost positive that he wrote You Shook Me All Night Long, along with many others on that album. Particularly on the previously mentioned hit song, she believes that he wrote the line "She had chartreuse eyes, telling me no lies...." because he always told her that she had chartreuse eyes. In her opinion it was changed because it would have been obvious that Bon Scott wrote it and was replaced by "Sightless eyes". Come to think of it, sightless eyes doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Who's he singing to, Stevie Wonder? 😂😂😂 She seemed to think that most of the lyrics to the songs had already been written before Bon died. If so, that's pretty sorry of them not to give him credit!
If you ask any person of any age if they’d like to see an AC/DC concert they would say yes, I believe this may be the only band that has that level of power
Whether people realize it or not, having Phil Rudd as their drummer is a huge part of their sound. Mal led the rhythm section but Phil has the swing and the minimalist approach that is exactly what their music needs. Chris Slade is a great drummer, no doubt, but he rushes the tempo a bit whereas Phil plays behind the beat. He's never rushing
Good documentary. And does anyone ever think we will hear demos from back in black? There’s been demos from their other albums but never did as well as BIB so that’s strange
I remember Joe Elliot saying Mutt Lange told Def Leopard to forget what you've learnt before and this album "Hysteria" will make you superstars or something similar to that
Oh dear , I wasn't aware Brian was a Treasure Troll back then, dang Ive never seen that hair before, My first show was on the Ball Breaker Tour, drove all the way to Cleveland Ohio , got a motel , got out of the concert could not find that damn motel and drove back home had no more money , lol
As much as a "legendary" album BIB is.....I personally absolutely feel that Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap from 5 years prior; is a better album. The reason is because each and every song on the Dirty Deeds record has a different feeling from one to the next. You got slow, medium and fast & heavy songs each with different tempo. I feel like BIB....every song is the same sound and tempo. Like as if the drum tracks can be inter-changed with each song. DDDDC does not give me that feeling. But both albums for me are absolute masterpieces. But this is only my opinion. Not a fact! You all have yours too I'm sure? Great Doc here though. I enjoyed watching. Especially the personal guitar lessons we get from Angus. Thanks for posting.
Personally, I prefer nearly hour long docs to have actual band members perspectives on making a particular LP. Fans, writers, tribute band members just didnt cut it.
How bizarre. An hour-long documentary with not one band member, producer, family member, neighbor, manager... a bunch of nobody's talking about Back In Black. I can go to my old high school buddies, and we can make the exact same documentary because "we were all there"
way better than "Razor Edge". Seems like, after Bob Rock producer's a band's new release, the band doesn't have a good release afterwards, but before Bob comes along, they have.
I have been hoping for some long lost tapes that Bon may have sung some of BiB demo tracks….its Bon’s album… Guess what I can hope for now is an AI version of Bon singing BiB….💪
I’ve always wondered why there’s never been demos of BIB released on the net as there’s been outtakes of other albums I’ve heard on you tube and this is strange as it’s the 2nd biggest selling album in history.
Brian Johnson elevated the band - a much better singer, it allowed AC/DC to push higher. Having said that, Johnson is not best singer AC/DC ever had. It was Axl Rose.
The spoils of sucsess totally fucked up Phil. We should've known something was wrong when the Flick Of The Switch tour was left "Rudd"erless. Simon Wright was a good replacement for him but their popularity was on the wane temporarily when Malcolm hit the skids and went rehab.
Not to be a stick in the mud, but why would they have all these photographs of the band from 1983 when Simon Wright was on drums and not Phil Rudd who was the groove master on the back and black album? Not to take anything away from Simon but if you’re doing a documentary with a lot of thoughtful interviews, why on earth would you not superimpose the proper lineup in the photograph montage? Otherwise well done.
Dudes this album was for all intents and purposes already written when bon drowned himself with alcohol... they'll argue no it wasn't and swear bon had nothing to do with these songs but they LIE! Sorry but man just look at the titles... that's all the proof anyone should need!! Let me put my love into you?! What do you do for money honey?!?! Give me a break...
I have had similar thoughts. The speed with which they came up with a new killer album is just too fast.Timing is everything and the fast recruitment of Brian suggests that they had most of the riffs (and possibly some lyrics)already and were about to go into the studio when Bon died. They were obviously keen to follow up the success of Highway to Hell and had to keep moving. No disrespect to Brian intended. He’s fantastic!!
When the box set 'Bonfire' was released in 1997, it contained rare material and demos from the Bon Scott era of AC/DC. But sitting in along with that material was the original 1980 Atlantic Records release of 'Back In Black' (!?) What was an album that featured the debut of Brian Johnson doing in a box set that highlighted the bands time with Bon Scott?? was it the Young brothers way of admitting that Scott indeed had some major input into the making of 'BIB', and his estate is receiving annual royalty payments from the sales of 'BIB' today? Only the Youngs have those answers.
Back in Black would have been even more successful with Bon because as journeyman as Brian is, even he’ll tell you, Bon was the spirit and humor of the band. The music was already set when Brian joined. The band was always the Youngs and whoever they wanted at the time. Any other band members were expendable. Bon was the only one who came close to being essential. They never wrote songs with the wit and presence after Bon.
Not for nothing, but for decades it was rumored that Bon had completed lyrics and sketches for what would become “Back in Black” and that it was the reason the Young’s were able to complete the album so quickly. I don’t discount the genius of the Young family. They’ve been doing work of astronomical quality since the mid-sixties, but Bon was special, he had that rare quality that made women want to sleep with him and men want to drink with him. I honestly believe that if someone went to the trouble of producing an AI version of “Back in Black” with Bon singing produced by Mutt Lang or Vanda & Young and released it officially, it would be the biggest record of the year.
I disagree. The band lost something when they lost Phil Rudd even though he’s not the most technically proficient drummer. Especially Chris Slade was a poor fit even though on paper he’s a much better drummer.
a documentary about Back in Black and they use a photo circa 1984 with Simon as their drummer. Great. Give Phil more credit please.

Thinking the same. Simon was good......... but only 'keeping Phil's drum stool warm' is how I remember Angus speaking about it.
I agree Phil Rudd deserves more credit after all he played on Back in Black not Simon Wright

Definitely their best album. The guitar riffs are more sophisticated and Brian’s vocal riffs are belted out like nobody else.
💥GOSH‼️👇🏼

My mum grew up with Malcolm. Both are headbanging in the afterlife.

The Australian version of "Let There Be Rock" is my favorite AC/DC Album
R.i.p. Malcoms Young and Dome.
ACDC has put out multiple masterpieces. That's amazing in itself, but who does it with two vocalists other than Sabbath?

Bon had a girlfriend who had a horse called Doubletime. He used to stand at the fence watching her working him in the horse yard.

Bon’s best lyric writing this album was, shame that Brian stole his lyrics as Bon was dying.
Can anyone verify if there is a recording of Bon Scott singing Rock n Roll ain't noise pollution?
What lunacy is this? Why make a video about back in black and then show band photos with Simon Wright?! What the hell is that?
