- 3 pcs NPN transistors; C/S9013 or BC547, You can use any other NPN transistor (but You have pay attention into EBC pin sositions).
- 15 pcs or more 3v LED bulbs.
- 4 pcs Elco 100uF/16v.
- 4 pcs 4K7 Resistors.
- 3 pcs 560 ohm Resistors.
- 10K Potensiometer.

This works well with 3 LED's. I need 4 so it looks like a rotating beacon. If I add one more section to do 4 instead of 3, it flashes alternatively - 1&3 together, 2&4 together. Is there any way to modify to get 4 running like the 3?

I can't see the type number of the transistors. Are those BJT's, or MOSFET's? I love the variable speed. this could be a crude 3 phase driver for a variable frequency drive, for electric motors.
These are simple BJTs in a 3-stage astable multivibrator. It's not usable as a Motor driver, because the ON-Time of each stage is definetly not exactly the same. The component values are too imprecise for that. There are too many specimen variations. Sometimes this circuit can start freezed (one stage permanently on), then it needs a kickstart or restart to start oscillating.
@@djblackarrow I did try it, but I had to capacitor-couple the motor, to keep the DC bias off the stator. ANY DC on an induction motor has a plug-braking effect, causing it to run inefficiently, if even at all. You are right. I found, that the frequency span is quite limited. The duty cycle on each output varies, with bias resistor current, which is what defines the maximum available frequency, based on the size of the coupling capacitors. It's still a fascinating circuit. If nothing else, I got some pretty good ideas experimenting with it.(I used 2N3904 transistors) The most interesting thing about this, was connecting the LED's anti-parallel to the emitter-collector junctions of the transistors, rather than in series with the load resistors. I think that shunt regulation is why the frequency varies as well as it does.

This is basically an astable multivibrator (alternating indicators) with a third stage added. It's simple.
