I remember it only being as bright and clear-coloured as this when brand new. It faded quite quickly with washing and exposure to sunlight. Also, very few places in Rhodesia would be as green and lush as what we see here! Also worth noticing that few Rhodesians wore the full outfit with long trousers/pants. Mostly shorts were worn! Later in the war, army and Police weapons were also painted with camo paint. Airforce stayed unpainted. We also had solid green, short-sleeved shirts in the airforce, and wore 'rigging shoes' - an ankle length suede boot, or 'veldskoen'.
This is an old video, but I just read this regarding Rhodie bush camo: "While developing a new disruptive camouflage in the 2000, the United States Marine Corps (USMC) evaluated over 100 existing patterns, and judged Rhodesian Brushstroke to be one of the three best schemes previously developed, along with CADPAT and tigerstripe." Top 3 older camo patterns as per USMC, pretty interesting to me. Certainly seems effective.
Like i said, How can Whites be Natives to any African country? You may be Citizens but you people will never be Natives to Africa. Only Blacks can be Natives to African countries. Similar to how Blacks can not be natives to European Countries.
Fundamentally, I agree with you. However, by your very own rationale, then all people of Islamic and African decent should leave their "Western" homeland and return to their truly native land (i.e. Africa/Middle East). See? See how flawed your rationale is Kadir Lali? Ya, I hope so. For life is too short to be filled with such hate. The vast majority of us are merely struggling to get by each passing day we need no grief from those our ancestors conquered nor should we be handing out money (i.e.our hard earned tax money) to lazy people who don't want to work for a living rather they just demand others take care of them for their ancestors were beaten and/or enslaved as a result. Life is ruthless no matter what liberals and communists may tell you. Live and let live.
Great camouflage and good show. Bruce if you want to look more authentic remove the sling from your G3... we never used slings or carry handles on our FNs. Look forward to more shows. Cheers!
I think you could hide in French 1914 sky blue coat and red pants after seeing what you've managed to do with all these patterns that look so unsuited at first glance to the setting at hand.
Most camo imitates hunter camo. Which is for hiding from animals. Small patterns that blob out into what amounts to, well, a blob. Big dark blob. This pattern like Denison smocks, uses big areas of contrasting colors. Which doesn't turn into a blob. ASAT does the same thing.
The best part of this video for me is how excited and enthusiastic you guys are about this in the intro segment. It came through very well and made me excited about it too. haha Looks great by the way. I really like the BDU style construction, more than any other (past or present).
Bravo , Rhodie Cammo - Tactical Perfect . Brent ,Your fans Salute your channel - your videos. I found your channel 2 years ago. Thank you for your service.
Outstanding ! I use to read about Rhodesia in Soldier of Fortune magazine. A few friends and I were going to go there and fight when we got old enough. Unfortunately when that time came it was all over.
Bollocks. Everybody talks the talk now, but not many were walking the walk then. At the time few enough foreigners showed up, and they were of decidedly mixed quality.
I bet you guys had a lot of fun doing this video, i cant believe the effectiveness in those green scenarios , congrats for both of you i really enjoyed it. Now its going to be a hard task to find tha camo pattern. Congrats again!!
There's a song that goes... "He wears black boots and he's comin' ta get ya, an Eagle on his sleeve and I can bet ya..." you should listen to it some time. Old Rhodesian songs.
Very cool camo, and quite effective. The hat brims were not doing you guys any favors, though. I'm glad there's people trying to bring this pattern back. I think it's ideal for this sort of environment. The large macro pattern works very well at disrupting the human silhouette. Better than the much flatter mutlicam-style camos.
Made my day seeing someone make new stuff in Rhodie camo. Effective as ever to. Only reason I saw either in a few scenes was because Bruce's field cap was a bit reflective, though it looks like it was a lighter coloring then the new stuff anyways.
With the Big Splotches of Brown, I wasn't sure it would work all that well here in Texas. But, Dang it does. I like the pattern. I had never seen it before. I like the Sniper Vail alot too.
Brushstroke is a really good option in lots of areas in the Western USA. There's a little more green than is really needed, but in the foothills of the front range in Colorado. Northern New Mexico and Arizona and lots of the scrubland and chaparral in California, it works really well. A modern arid brushstroke with the woodland green replaced with a muddy gray color would probably work well in the deserts of the SW USA as well.
It's really cool to come across this! When I was a kid, here in Alabama, there was a surplus store owned by a guy who had served in the Rhodesian Army and he had this stuff all in his store! I wish I'd gotten some then, but, like you, I had no idea what Rhodesia was or anything. I thought the guy was British until he informed me otherwise. This is a neat feature and can't wait to see what this pattern costs for purchase today.
Be a man among men, Rhodesian light Infantry, I have personally spoken to Rhodesian light infantry personnel, it was not uncommon to jump with shorts and tennis shoes, with combat load.... Rhodesia forever....!
The Fusilier when I was very young about 18 I remember a man in my area he came here from Rhodesia and brought his family and was working at a gun shop as a gunsmith he used to tell stories about Rhodesia I think that's what perked my interest in and that long ago great country
Awesome video, and great camo. I saw a set at the surplus store when I was 14 back in 09. Passed on it for m81 lol. At the time I thought the Rhodesian set was just expensive hunting camo. It sold within a day. Kind of kicking my self now for it. One thing I learned though using a few types (Swiss Alpenflauge, m81, Flat colors like OD and Forest green) is that Matching the environment is only half the battle. The other half is how you use it. M81 is still my go to living here in Michigan, Just due to its versatility in temperate seasons. I mix it up sometimes with a Gorka-4 in winter and Aplenflauge in the fall. Again, sweet video! Thanks for all the cool tests.
At 20:06 something I find interesting - a creeper climbing up a tree going anticlockwise as seen from the bottom. Indicates N Hemisphere. In S Hemisphere, all creepers wind the other way round. I learned this in a Brisbane museum and have checked it out hundreds of times in South Africa and works every time. Never seen a Northern Hemisphere creeper before so thank you. (I have searched for botanical literature on this and it's ambivalent - or claims that local factors play a bigger role, or that different species do different things independently of hemisphere. I disagree with this but maybe I just haven't found the right literature yet).
Thanks brother, there's more to come. I actually already filmed an Italian San Marco video last month with Bruce too. I've just been sitting on it because of other projects I've had first on my agenda.
freaking awesome that camo , in my youth in the army i use a similar version the Portuguese Lizard Pattern, it is much smaller but also effective , is it a darker camo then that one but if used many times get that slightly light colors. I'm impressed by that camo camo.
I really enjoy these camouflage video's Brent. Thanks for the links to where we can get them from.... I've tried searching on my own, but not much luck. I think I'm becoming a hoarder of Military uniforms...
DANG PRETTY GOOD CAMO ! ONE OF THE BEST I HAVE SEEN SO FAR , WOW , I HAVE TO SAY THAT OTHER THAN : CONCAMO, PHANROMLEAF, PENCOTT, IZIOM, ETC THIS IS ACTUALLY VERY EFFECTIVE PATTERN , EVEN THOUGH I DON'T LIKE THE WAY IT LOOKS BUT ITS EFFECTIVENESS IS EXCELLENT
Hi guys just note that in the original, pre-1980 Rhodesian uniforms, the green always overlapped the red. When it became Zimbabwe the uniforms were changed, so that the red overlaps the green. Regards.
I have an original set of statesman. The pattern if quite different than the South Africa pattern. The South Africa has more sharp angles and long flat lines in the pattern. I rarely see this in original Rhodesian pattern.
Thank you for offering these up. I must admit I'm saddened they aren't offered in the historically accurate form (i.e. less pockets and other original details inherent to the Rhodesian uni's).
Yeah I hear you, BUT... again like I said in the video, what are you using them for, a reenactment or other typical use in rough conditions? If its the latter of the two, why wouldn't you want the reinforced areas and more pockets, more functional modern uniform and better protection from rips/tears. I hear you though, i'm typically an originalist too when it comes to things.
I'm a avid military history buff. I prefer "as close to original" as I can get when it comes to military regalia and such. In the end, I'm truly thankful for you guys offering this review and this product. I have no doubt this product will be in demand. Also, this product is being sold from within my homeland. So it is a double win for me. :)
Got to admit being a bit skeptical but was impressed by the show. At 18:39 I'd like to see the person on the right go into prone instead being silhouetted. I'll bet the camo would have looked it belonged there a hundred years. Great channel!!!!
Fire Force is a Rhodesian military term a stick of 4 men dropped in with a chopper chasing the communists into a line of 30 paratroopers that would funnel them into a kill zone good night. The RLI was probably the best counter insurgency commando force back then.
No. A "stick" was originally a paratrooping term for the lines of men dropped. In the RLI and RAR units in the Fireforces it became a sub-unit of four men because that was all the RhAF Alouette helicopters could carry. The term "stick" became generalised in Rhodesia, largely replacing "section" in all unts. I had a "horse stick" at Mtoko and they certainly weren't going to be air dropped!
That's awesome that someone is making clothing in this pattern again! So cool! That price hits hard though. I can relate on the hunt though. I had a custom chest rig made out of 1000D material in a specific camo pattern I wanted, because I couldn't find a rig in that pattern anywhere. I had to source the material myself from Europe. The satisfaction is worth the aggravation sometimes.
Yeah its not cheap for sure. Its like you said though, its hard to find, the stuff isn't massed produce like most other patterns and thus more expensive. I had to pay a pretty penny to pick up some repro ERDL from Moore's militaria for that video. NO ONE else made them, so I had to melt plastic to acquire it.
BDU = Beer Distribution Utility! Lol. Reinforced beer can loadout shorts. I like the pattern. Can you ever have to many BDU? I remind my wife she has more shoes than I have BDUs. What is the weight of that BDU? The Finland pair I own and ATACS are heavyweight. Not a fan of heavy weight fabrics can’t tolerate heat well, also drying time is longer. Before any camping experts chime in, Cotton does not kill. My goretex is my change into for static lay up. Here the VA mountains I bring a light weight base layer and wool socks even summer as the temps can go from the 90s to high forty’s. Liked the vid as usual.
Its not that we forgot, its that both those rifles are mine and I do not want to paint those at this time. Bruce is in the process of picking up his own G3. He plans on painting it in a Rhodie pattern so hopefully its ready when we go to film PART III in the winter time.
Love the Rhodesian camo but it's so hard to find every time I hit a military surplus I look for it and can't find it I just got a spetsnaz camo summer suit it's really nice light weight and it breathes
by far my favorite pattern, if only instead of spending so much in vietnam the US had spent half as much in support Rhodesia would still exist, it was a cold war fight from start to finish one in which the west did its best to be sure the commies won.
You want the USA to support an African apartheid state? Why? The US supported some really fucked up dudes in the name of fighting communism. Guys like Augusto Pinochet and Syngman Rhee. That cold war USA wanted nothing to do with S. Africa or Rhodesia.
Another great video Brent, usually i can spot you a few times but not this video. Great to hear about the new production stuff coming out. My favorite only behind Alpenflage. Brent would you mind if i start posting these vids on the AK Files forum? Lots of people appreciate these vids on there.
Its getting a little ridiculous. My camo uniform closet is actually in my daughters room, so literally you open up this closet in a all pink room and its covered wall to wall in camouflage utilities.
That pattern would work very well in California's chaparral. I think the brown stands out too much for your forest at that time of year. Too bad they aren't making them cut like the original Rhodesian uniforms.
The colours of that awsome pattern are almost the same like from the original splittertarn of the german reichswehr/ wehrmacht. Good job👍 Greetings, GR🤘
Rhodie cammo faded fast in the sun, through washing and accumulated dust. To look authentic it should look pretty washed out, which considerably reduced the contrast between colours. To be really convincing it should have wear on the seats of the trousers and at the knees and the occasional snags on the legs from thorns or barbed wire. In my experience, an issue of three pairs of trouser per year was not adequate under operational conditions. However, three a year was adequate for shirts.
MARPAT was cool and sort of effective but I wish the Marine Corps had adopted this pattern over the the digital stuff! I really want a set of two of these!
I like the pattern and not putting anything down but you know a Sniper will study what his target looks like over and over. I can find you on a iPhone screen because of how dark you appear compared to your surroundings. I would like to see you in the worn looking set You was showing. Did they come that way or was they sun bleached. I think Propper might have done that for a reason.
A good pattern but a little to dark for the environment. Might be improved by breaking up the brown with some more green or tan. Would likely be better at night and more effective when seen through NVG.
Goodness, could this be better than multicam for seasonal transition in the midwest area? I only saw an individual 5 times during all of this. 14:29 Brent 21:15 Bruce 24:30 Both 26:45 Brent. Bruce only had half a tree covering him and literally nothing else and I still didn't see him.
Don't think Rhodesians knew that this camo pattern would be even more effective in the USA's South. Absolutely will blend in with the woods. Certainly going to be my "innawoods" camo coming up. I live in an area prone to natural disasters or evacuation if the nearby power plant goes down, so a good camo to escape at a moment's notice is necessary.
They don't have any at the moment, but if you search Kommando Store they will be doing another run in the future. There was also Vintage Operator, but they seemed to have dropped off the earth now.
Crombat Rations, try Bushwar Camo on Facebook. Just scroll down the page to view all of his products and prices (you'll have to convert them to US dollars) and then email him with any questions and/or if you want to place an order. facebook.com/BushwarCamo
I have some original kit issued to me in Rhodesia during the war. Trousers cut down for Grey's Scouts jodpur type, as is the combat jacket cut shorter. I have a full tracksuit, duffle bag green, c cap. What offers ? Shirts camo and sand, full lt insignia. All medium size.
The new made Rhodesian camouflage BDU’s are available through Fire Force Ventures:
www.fireforceventures.com/
Great explanation the different BDUs and excellent camotest once again!
Thanks brother.
Here's the link to Bruce's channel, please check it out and subscribe! th-cam.com/channels/wfzznRRdLUHwKiMTND49Jg.html
I see you & Bruce have been added to their website banner.
Yeah, that's funny.
I wore this cammo in Rhodesia in the 1970 ´s it gets more effect when faded. Im glad you guys like it. Saved my life and many others.
Hero
Nice to see a veteran talking about this small proud country.
What branch?
I salute you
what was rhodesia like as someone who lived there?
I remember it only being as bright and clear-coloured as this when brand new. It faded quite quickly with washing and exposure to sunlight. Still as effective as ever.
Agreed!

No floppy was harmed during production...
too bad ... ;)
That's a damn shame.
Darn
*slotted*
They beat you🤣🤣
Rhodesians never die!
@Kadir lali Why the hell do you people turn everything into a political debate??
Why the hell do you people think African Land belongs to you? Go build a Rhodesia in Europe. Africa is for Africans.
Like i said, How can Whites be Natives to any African country? You may be Citizens but you people will never be Natives to Africa. Only Blacks can be Natives to African countries. Similar to how Blacks can not be natives to European Countries.

Western Homeland only Includes European Nations. The USA and Australia for example Belong to the Black Aborigines and Native Indians.
Great camouflage and good show. Bruce if you want to look more authentic remove the sling from your G3... we never used slings or carry handles on our FNs. Look forward to more shows. Cheers!
Such an awesome camo pattern. Thanks for putting in the time to test it Brent, you're a legend
I think you could hide in French 1914 sky blue coat and red pants after seeing what you've managed to do with all these patterns that look so unsuited at first glance to the setting at hand.
Ha, I don't know about that man, I have quite a few videos where the pattern just wasn't effective in this environment.

Bravo , Rhodie Cammo - Tactical Perfect . Brent ,Your fans Salute your channel - your videos. I found your channel 2 years ago. Thank you for your service.
The 20 min marker is an outstanding display of the camouflage potential
Outstanding ! I use to read about Rhodesia in Soldier of Fortune magazine. A few friends and I were going to go there and fight when we got old enough. Unfortunately when that time came it was all over.
Ha, yeah they still do from time to time have article in SOF about Rhodesian bush war battles/ops.
I still have the original SOF mags from the 70s and early 80s. Lots of Rhodesia, South Africa and Merc stories
Probably a good thing you didn't lol.
Bollocks. Everybody talks the talk now, but not many were walking the walk then. At the time few enough foreigners showed up, and they were of decidedly mixed quality.
@@markaxworthy2508 Really, I was a fucking kid back then. Piss off.
That was really good! Find the bad guy! I was dead about 50%. Looking forward to the next one.

I think it's ideal for this sort of environment. The large macro pattern works very well at disrupting the human silhouette. Better than the much flatter mutlicam-style camos.
Bought a set in 88 at U.S Cav store outside Ft. Campbell. It got old and I got to fat. Wish I still had it!
Ha
Made my day seeing someone make new stuff in Rhodie camo. Effective as ever to. Only reason I saw either in a few scenes was because Bruce's field cap was a bit reflective, though it looks like it was a lighter coloring then the new stuff anyways.
Outstanding, thanks for the getting the word out on our behalf Jeff! We're working closely with Jeff to get good stuff out!
Glad we could help, love the utilities.
21:07 , great scene! I will say, Bruce's bright hat makes him stick out like a sore thumb
With the Big Splotches of Brown, I wasn't sure it would work all that well here in Texas. But, Dang it does. I like the pattern. I had never seen it before. I like the Sniper Vail alot too.
Sure does man, sniper veil is a great piece of gear.
Danny Walker I'm in Texas. Its good for hill country

Good deal brother, thanks for the comment.
Will this let me be a man among men?
Yes.
No b/c you're wearing camo and no one can see you.
men you really are experts , thanks for making and showing
Say whatever you will about Rhodesia, But this camo rocks!
Doesn't just rock, but one of the damn most effective patterns out there. I'd rate it higher than multicam in terms of effectiveness
Be a man among men, Rhodesian light Infantry, I have personally spoken to Rhodesian light infantry personnel, it was not uncommon to jump with shorts and tennis shoes, with combat load....
Rhodesia forever....!
So a short shorts camo effectiveness video may be in the future. Well see. ha

The Fusilier Lol at your failed white supremacist nation. You’re in a cult. 🤗
Reef Campbell Yeah. Actually, it was. Look at yourself dude with your moonman avatar and shit... give me a fucking break. 😐
Reef Campbell no, you weren’t. Sorry
great camo, i remember it was common (and cheap) when i was a boy,
then it dried up and prices went crazy, it's great that it is being made again,
Couldn't agree more.
Awesome video, and great camo. I saw a set at the surplus store when I was 14 back in 09. Passed on it for m81 lol. At the time I thought the Rhodesian set was just expensive hunting camo. It sold within a day. Kind of kicking my self now for it.

Very nice video. Cool story about the remake of the Rhodesian pattern. :o)
Thanks, I thought so too, I had to share it.
One of the more effective patterns you have tested.

Green printed over brown is Rhodesian, brown over green is Zimbabwean camo.
This video is fake news because your rifle isn't painted and your not wearing shorts.
Although, Rhodesians only painted rifles in the latter part of the conflict.
You went full gay 😂 Nick you never go full gay
Love how Bruce painted his chest rig as well.
Yeah, he did good job on his.
Im sold..best analog pattern yet

23:00 "BE A MAN AMONG MEN!" You just symbolized that old Rhodesian recruitment poster.

The Rhodesian Brushstroke pattern is beautiful, but what else is nice is how they that paint their FN FALs in baby shit green and turquoise blue 😍😍😍
You and Bruce forgot to paint you're FAL's in the baby poop camo. But it's cool that Bruce has a chest rig painted in the pattern.
Its not that we forgot, its that both those rifles are mine and I do not want to paint those at this time. Bruce is in the process of picking up his own G3. He plans on painting it in a Rhodie pattern so hopefully its ready when we go to film PART III in the winter time.
Definitely making a couple purchases from them. And Christmas is just around the corner!
Rhodie camouflage is pretty rad!
Best camo for the African scenario with the portughese lizard
Love the Rhodesian camo but it's so hard to find every time I hit a military surplus I look for it and can't find it I just got a spetsnaz camo summer suit it's really nice light weight and it breathes
rhodesians never die
Your Big Black Penetrative Daddy 32 btln.
Very good effectivness
It would be cool if you could have an BDU cut ocp uniform with US woodland pattern pockets.
*I will be interested in seeing the Arid variation of this.*
Me too, I hope they follow through with it and produce it.
What Price Glory sells it.
Adding some foliage to the hats (to break the profile) and you would be almost invisible in the bush
Is that a G6 and a FN FAL? My heart swoons.
G3!

by far my favorite pattern, if only instead of spending so much in vietnam the US had spent half as much in support Rhodesia would still exist, it was a cold war fight from start to finish one in which the west did its best to be sure the commies won.
You can't blame the us directly, I'd say nearly all blame lies on the UN, then the Uk second. Somewhere down the line is the US
You want the USA to support an African apartheid state? Why? The US supported some really fucked up dudes in the name of fighting communism. Guys like Augusto Pinochet and Syngman Rhee. That cold war USA wanted nothing to do with S. Africa or Rhodesia.
best camo ever
Great content and effort getting these examples.
Thanks
Another great video Brent, usually i can spot you a few times but not this video. Great to hear about the new production stuff coming out. My favorite only behind Alpenflage. Brent would you mind if i start posting these vids on the AK Files forum? Lots of people appreciate these vids on there.
Sure man, have at it. Thanks for posting.
Your collection of camouflage BDU's is impressive to say the least. I think I have....3 sets total, ha.
Its getting a little ridiculous. My camo uniform closet is actually in my daughters room, so literally you open up this closet in a all pink room and its covered wall to wall in camouflage utilities.
Ha, that is...special. Very special.
That pattern would work very well in California's chaparral. I think the brown stands out too much for your forest at that time of year. Too bad they aren't making them cut like the original Rhodesian uniforms.
Rhoady camo. The o.g. Gucci-flage. I need to gets me dat.
Perfect time for this camo
Agreed
I like this pattern too thanks for your work man god bless.
Thanks
The colours of that awsome pattern are almost the same like from the original splittertarn of the german reichswehr/ wehrmacht.
Good job👍
Greetings, GR🤘
Make this the new US Woodland Camo......Please.
Would suggest checking out what price glory
great video!
Thanks
Hey Brent. Do you have Finnish M05 in your hands yet? If not, are you going to order one anytime soon?
This, m05 is awesome.
I don't have any yet, its not an easy (or cheap) pattern for me to pick up, there for its not at the top of list to do at the moment.
Cool, I'll check it out.
Yep, they are worth a gander. Shipping goes faster then from the States ;-) ... They also have " Scho-ka-kola " mmmm...
I was just looking to see if Brent had done that video yet. I eagerly await.
I could see the glare almost everytime off of the brim of the ball cap hat. Boonie hat was good to go
I like the pattern and not putting anything down but you know a Sniper will study what his target looks like over and over. I can find you on a iPhone screen because of how dark you appear compared to your surroundings. I would like to see you in the worn looking set You was showing. Did they come that way or was they sun bleached. I think Propper might have done that for a reason.
The Propper set I have is fairly faded, the pattern colors are a bit lighter too.
Bruce@CampArmament it just looked like they might blend with the surrounding You was in. Thanks for the videos Appreciate the information
Where did you even get those ? I know there remakes but who cares it’s still effective.in a lot of environments..
Hey Brent,
Have you seen the Grassman camo from Pentagon.... awesome pattern 👌 take a look at it buddy🖒
A good pattern but a little to dark for the environment. Might be improved by breaking up the brown with some more green or tan.
Would likely be better at night and more effective when seen through NVG.
Wow, impressive.
Great stuff!
Goodness, could this be better than multicam for seasonal transition in the midwest area? I only saw an individual 5 times during all of this.
14:29 Brent
21:15 Bruce
24:30 Both
26:45 Brent. Bruce only had half a tree covering him and literally nothing else and I still didn't see him.
Cool review, just made an order at fireforceventures !
Awesome brother, you won't be let down. I look forward to the new stuff they will have coming out soon i.e. hats, vests, etc.
No short shorts?
guys I got 1 of yo 3 times but you had me by then, once I saw you both squatting, which other times shots did not show you out.
Brent, could you give the link for Bruce's channel.

Seems there's a few companies making repro now.
any links?
