Great explanation! I would add to the final differences between angiosperms and gymnosperms the double fertilization in the first ones to form the embryo and endosperm and simple fertilization in the case of the gimnosperms.
It is pistil. Pistil and carpel is not the same. A flower may have many carpels or just one, but the group of carpels is called pistil. Either it has one carpel or many, the plant only has one pistil composed by one or many carpels. In this case, there is only a carpel, so it is the pistil as well. Nice illustrations!! Thanks for sharing!
I think a flower can also have multiple pistils with 1 carpel per each pistil (e.g. www.mammothmemory.net/biology/plants/sexual-reproduction-in-plants/what-is-the-difference-between-carpels-and-pistils.html or science.csu.edu.au/herbarium/gynoecium/about/carpel-pistil)

Brilliant stuff. I'm on the road to getting it. Plants make us mammals look very simplistic
Mammals are much more complex than plants
@@Miriam-bl9ig what a naive statement.
