As a former race driver (regional touring cars, not open wheelers) when I was 18, 19 years old, I can tell you that the physical toll on your entire torso is brutal. You don't just tense your neck to fight the turn, you also have to sometimes do G breathing, where you take a quick full breath and hold it while tensing every core muscle you have, despite being strapped to a seat, so the neck has a base to work off of. I was strapped into an old BMW E30 M3 modified for racing, with slick tires, and the neck strain is next level in a touring car, even with the seat bump stops, the wings that go around the head in a racing seat. After 50-60 laps of a circuit, you get out and it feels like you've suddenly become a bobblehead XD I do not even want to think about what it's like in an F1, F2, FR 3.5 car even. The hardest corner in F1.... well, I think any racing tbh, is Eau Rouge through Radillon at Spa. You're going downhill into a short left that leads to one of the highest compression zones in all of racing while you're ALSO turning the car right through Eau Rouge. That's a full body tense, because you have to keep your head from bouncing around, your arms have to counter the natural inertia of the car to want to keep going left, as well as tensing your ass and legs so your feet don't come off the pedals. And then right after all that, you immediately crest over one of the lightest parts of a racing circuit, Radillon, where you have to keep the tension going despite your body and everything wanting to come off the ground. It's why so many cars crash at those two corners, either snapping a part or losing traction on the rears through Eau Rouge, or gaining air over Radillon and that air breaking the venturi effect and you have the LMP1 and LMP2 car flips that happen there. So yeah, long story short: He's not just training the neck. He's training everything from the ass up when they do those neck exercises. There's a bit in one of those F1 all access things on the official F1 youtube channel where George Russell has his racing suit down to this waist, and you can see when he's doing the neck training just how tense the rest of his body is. :)

This is only a part of training pretty much all the muscles in the core and neck must be at a high level of endurance strength and the workouts for it are quite literally the most torturous thing out there

I'd like to know what time it takes Lando to run the mile? We see F1 drivers exercising and training very hard but rarely see actual figures to know what level they're at.
TheRealD4VID they’re definitely more of endurance athletes than sprinters. So I’d guess they’re probably running consistent mid to high 6 to low 7 minute miles while still able to hold a conversation.
Lando's probably not at Button's level (Brawn era). Remember Monaco? "oops, parked in the wrong place, guess I'll run up the straight after winning this race" Button was probably a level above most F1 drivers in terms of commitment to cross-training, given his involvement in Ichiban Triathlon. Mark Webber had his MTB epic on Tasmania and Alonso had some involvement in a road cycling team, but neither of these was the F1 driver as a true competitor.
Can’t wait to see how you do at McLaren over the new season been a fan since Lewis was there, and stuck with them since. I haven’t even seen the car yet and I have a good feeling about it (also hoping to win the comp they’re running and see the unveil in person).
