Above all, Ibanez must have one of the most extensive range of the most PERFECT Jazz guitars on the market, from affordable and really exceptionally good to expensive and absolutely outstanding.
The "mid-price" range of the Ibanez Jazz guitars' catalogue is by far the best of the market, offering all sorts of classic "shapes and sizes" of Jazz guitars to satisfy the needs of nearly every professional Jazz guitarist ... there's simply nearly NO Jazz guitarist that I personally know (and I know quite a few) who doesn't own at least one Ibanez Jazz guitar and absolutely loves it to bits ... and that speaks a lot about how Ibanez has been dedicated to satisfy that specific "branch" of the guitar market.
I personally have 3 Ibanez Jazz guitars.
The 1st one was (and still is) a beautiful 1973 sunburst "Ibanez Artist 2616" that I got for XMas when I was a teen, and that my parents bought used from a Jazz teacher friend of the family, and which was and still is an absolute GEM ... I'll never ever sell this guitar, and after all these years, I now truly appreciate the quality of that "beauty", I guess that after decades the wood has naturally dried out to become really resonant and beautifully sounding, acoustically and plugged in. It's mine forever.
The 2nd one is an affordable 2003 Ibanez AF75DTOR which came with some of the best well balanced Jazz pickups and with one of the best neck I've ever played. Period ! I remember playing one in a shop in Paris one day, then coming back the days after and literally playing tens of copies of the exact same model in various different shops of "Douai" street and "Victor Masse" street, then the rest of the shops of that part of the city, to pick the absolute best copy that I could find ... I remember the shop owner of the shop where I bought that guitar giving me a nice and substantial discount on that guitar, just 'cause he couldn't stand anymore to see me playing different copies of the same model FOR HOURS and over the span of several consecutive days 😆 ... that's how obsessive I already was about that guitar.
I put a set of "TV Jones Classic Filtertrons" (and carefully stored the original pickups) and an original "Bigsby B3" on it, and it's my "go to" Iba-Gretsch ever since, but still is a great Jazz guitar with a lot of clarity and beautiful "woody" "acoustic-ish" amplified tone (due to the very specific slightly "microphonic" tone of the TV-Jones).
The 3rd one is a recent "Ibanez AM93QM AYS" which is an absolutely PERFECT model of 335 type guitar, right out of the box, and that Thomann "Pleked" for me (with Jescar Stainless Steel jumbo frets) ... for the price that you get one these guitars, there is is absolutely NOTHING that compares to it.
Well that's about it with my experience with Ibanez Jazz guitars.
In short, you want to have the BEST OF THE BEST for every Jazz guitarist who comes visit your shop ... you better know the Ibanez catalogue "front to back", and have in your "shop arsenal" a couple of these greatest Ibanez Jazz guitars that no Jazz guitarist should ignore.
Happy new year 2024, everybody!
The S is my absolute favorite Ibanez series. Nice to see it getting a little love.
Some channels do a little unboxing of the new Ibanez line. Other channels actually go to the Ibanez location and demo the new line. With Andertons, Ibanez packs up their gear and shows up in person to showcase their new line.
I feel like that is a real testament to Andertons dedication to bringing guitar geeks everywhere good content every. single. day. Thank you Lee and Pete for all of the hard work you guys put in.
No, mate, They buy them so they can sell them in their shop. The shop which they are advertising through this channel. It's called business.
@@fdfsdfsvsfgsg4888 You're entitled to your opinion. You're wrong but certainly entitled. There are an almost unlimited number of guitar shops across the planet that sell a lot of gear without producing entertaining content every day.
It is also a fact that manufacturers recognize the popularity of Andertons content and as a result make special accommodations to showcase their products via this specific outlet.
Why it bothers you that Lee Anderton makes a living by selling gear is beyond me.
I own a Dark Bule Gio series Ibanez, which i had for Christmas about 2 and a half years ago, which I love.
@@BigIronTexasI think you are both correct, I think they obviously make the content to sell the guitars on their site and store specifically. But they obviously wouldn’t do it unless they enjoyed doing it and for other reasons, you can’t be this enthusiastic with the purpose of just selling the guitar.
My first electric guitar, that I still play, was an AZES 40 PRB. It’s absolute class. The Dynamix 9 also gives you so much space for exploration.
Lee Wrathe is a great guy, a stalwart of the guitar world and guitar shows here in the u.k. 🤘👍
Beautiful guitars. I've been a fan of Ibanez for years, since I bought an RG450DX almost 30 years ago. My wife said she'd buy me a guitar this year to celebrate 10 years of sobriety and I'm thinking I might have found what I'm looking for. Loved the red with 7 piece neck. Looked and sounded gorgeous.
Congrats on sobriety brother!!
@mflee6590 thanks! Gets easier every day!
Congrats!
Thx for reviewing all of these. I always look forward to the Ibanez releases.
Cheers from NZ 😎🎸🤘
Excellent job Lee and Lee! Always a pleasure watching Lee Wrathe play! He is a guitar wizard and one of the coolest human beings on the planet! 🙂❤️🎸🎶
Just received my Ibanez Prestige RG652AHM in Nebula Green. What an amazing guitar! Plays and sounds like a dream!
It's light weight too right?? It's awesome.
Nice!!!
I bought that same guitar during the pandemic 2 or 3 yrs ago, been playing for a long time but this was the first time i spent that much.($2300 cdn) There probably a little cheaper now.
Its been my main guitar since i got it, played almost every day and you'll be happy to know it still plays great, other than having it re-set up since factory set up about a yr ago (normal after playing almost everyday for 2 yrs ) i havent had any problems. Volume and tone knobs have faded a little but ive played it a lot. 35 yrs playin and its my probably my favorite guitar so far.
You still happy now that its been 5 months? I would love to know what someone else thinks.
@@james-sf5yc I have a white 2008 Ibanez Prestige RG2570MZ with a maple fretboard that probably has thousands of hours of playing time and it still plays terrific! I build high end custom furniture so I ended up doing a jawbreaker splatter paintjob with a pre-catalyzed lacquer satin finish on it because it's one of those guitars that plays so well that I wanted it to look like some sort of custom shop model..
I also have a Prestige rg5320C that i bought 2 years ago and it plays absolutely perfect! If i want to play some bar dives and never have to worry about a guitar going out of tune, i grab one of the prestige Ibanez, even over some other guitars i have with original floyds/FUtone bridges. I think the newer prestige models are truly top of the line guitars. With the quality of the prestige line guitars, I don't see any reason to buy a jcustom other than aesthetics and possibly being more collectors guitars that hold more value.
I love the AZ47P1QM-DEB... My very first solid-body was an Ibanez Roadstar II Series (SSS) with a pretty similar red dragon eye burst. This AZ seems (almost) everything I wished the Roadstar had. Nice job!
Every year I watch these videos just because Lee plays so well. He is such an awesome player, great feel and vibe with all the right techniques
They all look Great!!!!! I’ve always loved the brand and SO much guitar for the money!! People always associate Ibanez with Rock but they are such versatile guitars 🎸
Great video and demo guys👍
Nice to see the S-series getting some love again!
Loved the video, I still have my 2002 Ibanez Rg120 and still love it
ACKTUALLY!!!!! the "70" in RG470 means it has no scratch plate and HSH pickups. The "DX" give you the sharktooth inlays and (i think) neck binding That sea foam looks great! the middle pickup ruins the aesthetic a bit, but gives more options. an RG420 would have just two humbuckers, and would be awesome in the seafoam!
Man that seafoam / blue / whatever RG470 DX is lovely. Need to grab one of those for sure
I wish Ibanez would add the ZPS system to more of their floating trem guitars, the fact that I can drop tune my Edge Zero II twist a thingy and it just works is wizardry.
The Tokyo Midnight finish is so stylish. Love that.
Some of the finishes on ibanez are really nice! I loved the red one!
I would love to see them come back with more S-S-H RGs reminiscent of the old RG560/760 (I've had my 760 since '90). I know they have the RG5440C and they had the RG6PKAG but something for the RG Standard (price) range with an Edge would be nice.
Very cool new Ibanez guitars for this new year. The Quantum pickups have been on the Ibanez standard RG range for years though.
Agreed, pretty sure my entry level RG had quantum pickups
Yeah I'm sure the JEM Jr used them for years too, I remember them bringing the name back about 10 years ago.
True. Q series doesnt have quantum pickups.
Yes Q series has Q58, it's totally different.
I wish that Ibanez would bring back the destroyer, it was always my favourite Ibanez guitar, and they should make different versions, and at different price points! I'd love a prestige destroyer.
One of the guys from Thy Art is Murder has a LACS 7 string Destroyer. Dying to have something like that since I saw it.
The AZ line is just amazing. And those bindings! 😍
Love the look of that seafoam green RG
The blue one at 23min, wow! sound great and look very nice.
As the owner of a AZ2204 prestige, I can tell you the AZ's are absolutely amazing! The Hyperion SD's are great! The necks and frets are perfect.
The yearly Ibanez lineup video is one of my faves!
Some lovely new AZs once again, and that blue S looks awesome.
Cool block inlays on the RG, first time I've seen that. Sort of old Carvin vibes.
Hi great video I love the s series do they do 7 string and baritone versions cheers
NICE PLAYING CAP, LOVED THE VID, HES A DARN GOOD PLAYER.
I learnt on an Ibanez GIO I bought new in about 2001. So it’s a name that goes back a while!
OMG the run at 38:11........wow, just beautiful
S series is so underrated. I have a 2008 Prestige S5470 and it is still so amazing. I wish they'd give more love to the Prestige line and add new finishes instead of having the same 2 finishes for years on end... the finish on that Premium S1070 is beautiful though
The black neck-through Premium Ibanez RG with the Edge tremolo from 2023 is still my dream guitar. I believe they just added a blue version for 2024?
Just to clear something up. The Quantam pickups have been standard on Ibanez guitars more affordable range for over 20 years. The pickups in the Headless Q series are not the same. Those are Q58 which are completely different pickups and only come with the headless Q line.
I bought a Black Ibanez GIO GRG170DX back in 2009 still plays and sounds as good as my more expensive guitars.
Leewrathe well done. Lovely shredding. Thank you.
Dear Ibanez please bring the Roadstar guitar back.
Fantastic playing from Lee Wraith at the start that AZ section.
I saw the RG7420 is coming back! Unfortunately they're aren't doing it in the OG late 90's colors--Black Pearl and Vampire Kiss, but maaaaan, it's about time we got that model back...that was my first real guitar. Betcha can't guess what band was popular when I got that guitar!
ibanez lee is such a great player
Btw in 2:47 the Quantum pickups are not from the Headless guitars, that would be the Q58's that would be amazing and a insta buy from me, but it's bad information. 👍
He's so good - these all look and sound great. I want an S series now...
WOW great to see both Lees today. Mr Wrathe is quite the player!
Ibanez never used a Floyd rose. They had their own version of bridges that had locking saddles starting with the Hard Rockr pro and the Pro Rockr trems. Then they released the edge which is licensed under Floyd rose. Then came the Edge Lopro, Edge 2, Edge 3, and Edge pro. Then came the zero series or zr trems
Thought I'd point out that you guys have the new Icemans listed as Paul Gilbert signature models on your website, which they aren't. Paul has the Fireman as his signature not the Iceman, although he did have the PGM600 (which was based on the Iceman) back in the 90s, he hasn't had a signature one out since then.
I will never understand why some Ibanez are unavailable in Europe. There are so many beautiful, inexpensive models produced for the American and Eastern markets, but not for Europe. I see it on FB groups where they boast about beautiful flame maple tops. I have never seen these in any catalog since the 1990s in Europe
I like that red guitar with black hardware, very nice
I’m a fan and player of shredder/metal guitars (Jackson, Charvel, Kramer, even old-school Peavey’s, etc) but Ibanez have never done it for me personally. Some of their models like the Destroyer are sweet.. they sound great though!!
Love that Dragon Burst AZed!
Side note, in generic terms the Floyd Rose trem can be referred to as a double locking trem system.
I loved the Tokyo midnight finish- but the fretboard on the stock photos look way too light in color to match the one that's on the vid. I hope to get one with the darker fretboard as the one they are playing. I'm amazed to get such an awesome guitar for that price.
Those neck through RG's really remind me of the Schecter Banshee GT finishes
Wow more superstrats with super thin necks and Floyd Roses
The RGT1221 sounded amazing.
Some of those jams sound really Crystal Planet era Satriani to me... amazing playing from both Lees!
I have an Ibanez S670QM and love the thin lightweight body.
That "Tokyo Midnight" RG sounded killer!...and it cost HOW MUCH!?!?
The S-series will always be my favorite, though. 😁
Hi, what's the model number of the all black GIO?
Indonesian built Premium series are becoming so good that I am having hard time choosing something else over, bullet fret ends, stainless steel frets. Beautiful woods. Very good workmanship.
Never been a real fan of Ibanez- but these are lovely
What is the model number of the guitar at 26;20 please?
Your listing for the RGT1221PB is teeming with spec errors.
The "Edge 2 tremolo" and "three unique DiMarzio pickups" are not to be found on this guitar....
Ibanez Q Headless series has Q58 Pickups, they are different than Quantum pickups. Am I wrong?
How about the Prestige line? Anybody knows whether they’ll announce it, or this is all we get?
Is the JS140 getting a change? Really want a rosewood board
Glad to know they’ve brought back the S series premium, checked Ibanez logo, nice RGA blacked out metal axe. But they should’ve left the AZ headstocks unpainted. Also, made an AZ looked like a cheap $200 Ibanez from some years back.
I want an SR or BTB in that Tokyo Midnight colour. It's like the Nissan GTR Midnight Purple
I like the purple rg470 , but I'd have to swap the pick up covers for black.
My current main guitar is an Ibanez S series hardtail
I used to have GRG Gio 250DX and she had scratch plate ( very good guitar, by the way with RG350 spec) : DX means De Luxe, has nothing in common with scratch plate.
I really love the RGX765QF45HSS2 but the RGA555TRS99STX sounds even better.
I have an Ibanez S570AH. I love the sleek thin S body, and the fit & finish is pretty good, nice ash body with lovely grain, but I wish I had got something with a hard tail rather than with a locking trem, which I find just a pain the backside. Action is also higher than I like, even with a setup... Should have asked for it lower at the time... Mea culpa. The quantum pickup are OK, but nothing to write home about.
Love Ibanez! Ibanez ftw!! 🤘🏿🤘🏿
Probably already been mentioned but I am too lazy to scroll the comments. The DX doesn't mean no pickguard but actually the darker fretboard with sharktooth inlays. The 470 means no pick guard. The 450s have pickguards. Hope that helps someone anyway....
Are you going to review the Ibanez AZES40 any tome soon ? 41:08
I Always thought the Brand name on the headstock on the headstock could be a bit more subtle like other major brands.
Last year I was choosing between premium Ibanez RGT1221PB (previous one) and prestige, but damn this red premium looks beautiful! I must resist urge to buy another one 😅
I don't think you will resist.
Also check out the RG550, it's a bit thinner neck tho, might not be for you.
@@mylogify thanks for suggestion, but I'm not into floating bridges(atm).Maybe some day tho
3:33 - not true! Quantum pickups are used in RGs for about 10 years already! Those are the main pickups in affordable RG-s.
Totally agree on the comment on the tremolo system. Beginners avoid. You'll spent more time fiddling with the guitar rather than playing it.
I somewhat disagree. Depends on your understanding or willingness to understand how the system works, with the string tension and adjusting the spring tension in the back. My first electric was an RG550DY with an original Edge. I was messing with alternate tunings, changing string gauges, and just changing strings in general with ease quite quickly after getting it.
Edge is a great tremolo, I haven't used other tremolo's but beginners would do fine with the Edge tremolo, it's one of the best. If quality matters, for staying in tune, and ease of use.@@duosonic391
Dam those S series are beautiful
I realized that last year, ibanez had some models with the regular 6L headstock design and the alignment of the string/tuners were a bit off. Meaning, the strings weren't coming out of the nut to the tuners straight, it seems like they fixed that. I wonder if anyone else noticed this.
Which models in particular?
@@rectifier7578 some of these first ever Iron models
There needs to be a 471 in tokyo midnight! Ive been needing a hard tail lol
Yes, More Ibanez!
I'd look harder at new S series if they had versions with 22 frets like the originals, and hardtail TOM 24.75in versions.
As is, I'll keep rocking my s470qs.
Great video !!
ps : show us basses
That first one they reviewed , the purple one was honestly nice . For 550$
Please do a new video on budget semi hollow and hollow bodies! Epiphone, hagstrom, sire, ibanez. Really wanna see if the hagstrom viking 2 is worth it. Theyre on sale for half price and idk if that just means theyre garbage or a great deal!
The T in RGT stands for Thru since they are the Neck Thru.
@andertons Your guitar links are already broken....its a 2024 video....
I'm wondering why the iceman models have paul gilbert next to them on the website? these are standard models.
Pretty guitars but don't really feel any different from previous years. What I'd like from Ibanez is to offer the signature shapes outwith the signature guitars. So the old Radius became the JS model with a few tweaks, so now you can only get that if you want a JS which his specs and name on it. The Jiva too, I think a few options that maybe don't have that fret inlay but is the slim Ibanez body. Not that I dislike these artists, but you're paying for their specs which aren't what I want but I do like the body shapes.
i own 3 ibanez guitars, my first ever 30 years ago, i still own. ibanez gi0. ibanez jem and rg470ahm, i bought from andertons
no hollow or semi-hollow?
What is that clock counting in the background?!
Please, do the same for Ibanez 2024 basses!
37:36 song name?
Ibanez guitars are really nice and solid, but sadly the wizard III necks are hard to play with big palms. But, my rg as time goes on it’s harder and harder to play. It’s a rga42fm. But it’s too thin. It sucks because I’m in the market for a new guitar
Question for the class:
Love the HSS AZs. Is there any reason why HSS with 24 frets seems to be a tricky combination to find on any brand? Is there something about those extra frets with the neck single coil that doesn't fit well?
maybe this combination is simply a bit less popular for 24 fret guitars? I would assume that if people go for single coil neck pickup, they want a deeper sound that is found on 22 fret guitars, since the pickup is located deeper
Nah, it's because old people. They hate 24 frets. Those other hss guitars from other brands most likely come in strat shaped, which target mostly old people.
I'd say mostly because scale length impacts tone. Short scales have a snappier sound, a little more open, while longer scales make the sound slightly darker. People going for single coils are generally looking for this snappier sound, so you get the beaffy humbucker and the snappy single. Thats similar to why floyd roses go with humbuckers 99% of the time... if you're doing a dive bomb or abuse the trem you need lots of gain... so you need a humbucker. The HSS gives you get the top-mounted trem that allows you to dive bomb (but no squeals) and you get the snappy singles that are great for cutting the mix in a solo, its honestly a great config.
I guess most players prefer the tone of a neck position single coil paired with a 22 fret neck. It sounds fatter than a 24 fret since the pickup is farther away from the bridge.
Single coil on a 24 fret is too far back to provide a nice fat neck pickup sound. The pickup will have to be redesigned to provide a similar sound (and even then it'll be hard) to fit that particular guitar. Then you have the challenge of also designing the middle pickup to work with that neck pickup, and so on. The position of the neck pickup just contributes so much to the sound that in order to get a traditional strat neck sound you have to do 22 frets. What I want to see is a a shorter scale guitar, something like a Les Paul scale but with 24 frets, and a HSS configuration. Maybe even a McCarty 594 scale. I wonder if it'll "solve" the issue.
It’s rgt because it’s neck-thru. That’s what the t means. Rgr is reverse headstock.
