    I’ve come to love these. So for me, these videos are great. And offer vital insights. I’m giving myself a year to race a Hyrox. I’m 64. Post two hip replacements 2018 & 2019. Both good.
    Also post stem-cell transplant for blood cancer. Released from hospital February 2021. I hope to be competitive in the 65-69 age group.
    The last year has been about reestablishing fitness. So far so good. The next year will be more event specific. I have yet to lay my hands on a cross country erg! Burpees 3x8 plus sled push five sets yesterday. I’ll build on these. Next will introduce squats in preparation for that wretched ball toss towards the end of Hyrox. Then walking lunges with bodyweight initially. Rowing erg, then sled pull. My running is weak at the moment, so that’s a weekly task. I figure I need to be half marathon fit for Hyrox. Would currently struggle to get around a 5k in 30 minutes at the moment.
    Relishing the challenge….
    Thanks Mark!

      Hi Londonlife, I have just watched Mark Lewis very informative Hyrox video and have subscribed to his channel 😀 That's where I came across your post and got to say that I was inspired by your post! I compete in the 65-69 age group and this is a very tough event, I don't say this to put you off or anything and if you just get on the start line and look to 'enjoy' yourself and persevere you will have a great experience. I have done 3 Pro Hyrox including the Las Vegas world champs and won the Bronze medal in a time of 1.47.24 (I'm on the left in the profile picture) I hope you get on the start and hope it's the Hyrox event so you can get a good feel for it. I'm looking to seeing Mark's debut at the Pro event coz everything feels so much heavier in the Pro! I'm doing a mixed doubles with a very strong female in the 50-59 age group in Brum so that should be good! Even spectating at an event you will learn a lot! So very best wishes with your fitness and would be great to see you at an event! Good luck!! 👍 best wishes from Mark Brighouse 🙂

      @@markbrighouse6876 Great to receive this today. And the insights you’ve offered are much appreciated.
      So I’ve now got a colleague who’s up for teaming up for Hyrox. For me, that feels like a great entry level, and learning process. Hopefully after that I can go it alone to see how I fare within my own age group category.
      I’ve a long way to climb back up, but I love the challenge of it all.
      Best wishes Mark 1 & 2…

      @@wildernesstraining1957 I've just come across this comment, and wow - I know your journey! I had leukaemia when I was 19, my left hip replaced at 20, and my right hip replaced at 21. I've cycled from London to Paris, finished top 50 at Swim Serpentine, and plenty more since then!

    Love these videos - very funny and extremely motivating!! I've gone from being a professional footballer to 'office based' via a broken back and piled on about 5 stone through binge eating over the years. This channel has motivated me to lose weight and get my fitness levels back on track at the age of 50. I've lost 4 stone so far and signed up for Hyrox in Birmingham, UK in October (never heard of Hyrox until I saw this video). I think I've now watched all the videos on this channel 🙂 (Currently writing this whilst sitting by the pool on holiday, having just finished a Hyrox training session.)

Trying to push myself to get down from nearly 16stone to something more suitable with the aim of eventually running some ocr's and doing next years hirox. I have found your videos amazingly insightfull on everything from trying to stick to a diet, maintaining motivation and even purchasing the bank destroying Garmin Fenix 7 saphire solar. 2 weeks in and 7lbs down in the battle against the bulge.

    A word of caution: I tore one of my ASICS GT 2000 shoes on the sled push. Had to take the shoe off and push the sled barefoot. I’d recommend a running shoe with a large rubber grip on bottom and not too much foam.

    Mark I was the only one at HYROX NYC with a bladder on my back. Two laps in after the first workout, the ski erg, I was tossing it to my wife as I passed her in the crowd. She raced later, ended up doing the same thing. My friend raced with my hydration belt, ended up carrying it through a lot of the workouts. I don’t know why but it was soooooo annoying and in the way. I run all the time outside and it’s fine but in that hot indoor event, it killed me. Don’t want this to stop you, just my experience with it since as you said, hardly anyone has experience wearing a bladder at Hyrox. Good luck man!

    Another great video, Mark. Thanks for walking us through the prep so thoroughly. I would point out that you made a comment about your footwear and being grippy in just about anything because of your weight. As a motorcycle rider with many, many miles of experience you should remember that weight does not affect your traction coefficient. You may in fact be able to get away with your road shoes if the traction is sufficient. I run in Altra Superior 4.5, and can't imagine wanting to spend that much time in them on concrete, but that's just me. You do you and thanks a ton for bringing us all along for the fun.

    • @MarkLewisfitness
      @MarkLewisfitness  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The superior on concrete is a compromise-obviously it is a bit harsh but it is fast and nimble. I wouldn’t train in it on road but if I ache a bit after the race, I’ll live with that. Interestingly, if you use superiors, what do you use for Road?

    • @seanmole8134
      @seanmole8134 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MarkLewisfitness I use Hoka carbon x and Bondi x on the road. I have used the Altra Olympus for the road and would happily go back to them. I really like them, but I would tear through the uppers too quickly.

    I would practice burpee efficiency, you are squating coming up, which is using more energy. You definitely have the upper body strength to pop up ( should be some great CrossFit videos going through burpee), good luck with the race I’m sure you’ll smash it. That Burpee movement Will feel so much better Once you’ve got the movement efficient

    Downside of carrying your water - getting very hot? When I did my first ultra it was October, not hot, not particularly cold either, but I was wearing a hydration vest and boy was my back sweating like mad. I imagine wearing one at an indoor event would be seriously uncomfortable, I'd be interested to know if it works or not.
    Good luck, I believe in you 😊

    still unsure of your water strategy, hope I'm wrong but watching the Manchester video it seemed like you rested at the water stations cause you needed the rest rather than needed just the water. Good luck though, you look like you are in great shape and ready for it.

    @MarkLewis Can you share what water bladder that is, I am someone who needs water on me just so I don't worry about not having if, so I plan to have a water bladder pack for my first hyrox in November. I can only find 1l and 1.5l versions. Your 600ml version sounds much more ideal, but it's not listed in the gear section of your website.
