VTSAX - The Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund is the most popular mutual fund in the world. A combination of a low expense ratio, broad diversification, and a big-name company in Vanguard make it a very popular choice.
The Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund consists of approximately 3800 hundred stock holdings. The largest holding on companies we all know like Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Nvidia, and Berkshire Hathaway.

Love it! my Roth IRA is 100% VTSAX.. 348 shares!
Nice!!
What kind of dividends do you get?
@@JC_Rios low div yield. Got $171 last payment for 389 shares. But it’s a long term investment.. 20 years ahead to grow still. Not focus on the div yield, but more focused on the growth it will provide after 20 years
My life changed too when I started doing this and putting money in stocks. The first few years it as really great, but this year I haven't felt like my portfolio is doing well. I have lost more than $40,000 from my portfolio the past four months, and it's now very worrisome.
The year has been really rough for everybody. But I've been able to cushion the effect though. Have you thought of using an investment advisor? They can make you good money especially during uncertain times like this.
Great video, thank you. Imho, the gloomy background music is not a good fit and is rather distracting than supplementing your content.
Thanks for your feedback. Appreciate it. I didn’t even notice it until you mentioned it. I have to listen with headphones.
@@SchoolofPersonalFinance I listened to this video with my headphones, I without them it's not as noticeable (just tested).
@@zenitfan4lifethanks!
Interesting video! Thanks for putting this together. I’d love to see a video educating us on what selections to make through an employer 401k. I’m always so confused on what the different funds are.
Can you also share what is the difference between VOO and VTSAX?
Yes I can do that! Hard thing is everyone’s plan has different options but I can make it based on most common options.
VOO is the same as the fund I compared it to in the video. It is the etf version of the Vanguard S&P 500 fund.
What platform is that
So I have more than 7k a year to invest. Would it be worthwhile to cap out a roth IRA each year with this index fund, and also have a regular brokerage account investing extra money into the same fund? There's probably better things to do with my 'extra' money, but I'm just looking to passively invest for long term gains.
*Not investment advice lol but I personally do that.
@@SchoolofPersonalFinance haha, gotcha. Well that's probably the path I'll take then. Thanks!
this is a crappy return fund. Vanguard has MUCH MUCH better performing funds than this one
Lol
funny? I prefer ETF's. Vanguard's VONG since inception has had an average growth of 15.8% per year. Their VGT has averaged 13% since inception while your pick has averaged 8%.
Yes it’s a silly comment. VTSAX or VTI if you prefer etfs is a total market index fund. It tracks the entire US stock market. People own it for diversification and risk reward. It is a core portfolio holding for a majority of Americans whether they know it or not. You are pointing out growth funds with less than 60 holding in each. Obviously growth has outperformed everything the last 10 years…no one is arguing that (and both those funds are very good) but comparing them to a total stock market fund is apples to oranges. I can say your funds are crappy because you could have just bought Nvidia and Celsius and performed thousands of times better than your two funds.
" funds with less than 60 holding in each"...once again you've got me scratching my head. the VONG fund is comprised of 443 stocks and the VGT fund has 312.
@weeverob sorry multitasking. Meant to say top 10 make up 60% of each fund.
