    Fingers crossed thats fixed it!
Its amazing how a simple wire can end up being the issues when the copper is exposed.. could also not be just melted. and just pulled the cable against the unit losening the wire from its connection! well done buddy! excellent repair! :) i wonder how much a repair guy from indesit would of charged for that or even spotted it!

had a similar issue when fixing the bearings on one of my machines recently. three of the wires that went to the motor had worn themselves down and exposed the copper. luckily its never tripped but did just put insulating tape over them to solve it. that is quite a bizarre fault really

I would have IR tested it like a P.A.T test via the plug (line & neutral to earth) before dismantling to see how much of a short to earth there was noting down how many Ohms.
Then every so often during disassembly a quick IR test between line & neutral to earth to see if anything has changed with the readings.
As the earth leakage was due to the live wire touching the earthed case when you removed the case the IR test would have shown the fault had been cleared and you can then focus on what you had changed since you last tested knowing that is where the fault lies.

Thanks. I am learning on the megger so it is all new to me. I am not sure a megger would have showed the fault because it wasn’t tripping until a few minutes had passed with the machine working. So it needed damp maybe heat to get the fault. But I will use the process you have detailed in the future. Thanks.

@@bootsowenHi Owen, no obvious shield on that drum so presumably the clothes going in need to be damp not sodden. As you say much higher humidity within the casing on a heatpump style dryer.
The wear mark looks smooth and over a wide area, indicates a light pressure over time. That drum looks a bit nobbly so I'd expect a rougher mark on the cable. No obvious marks on the casing. Probably a higher resistance from drum to ground than case to ground.

Good man Owen, that's a great find, usually that wire is hooked up around the back like you have it now, it's possible it was getting hit by the drum in rotation. It's great when it's the simple things. When I megar a machine. I go from mains plug, and continuity whole machine. If low reading. I'll disconnect 1 by 1 the components till I get a good reading, but that's for when ya in the dark and no clue what's going on, doesn't happen often, 😂 good spot tho buddy, fair play to ya.

Cheers. Thanks for your help. I need to get a bit of learning in with the megger. I just got lucky on this one.

@@bootsowen insulation resistance is what ya want to be checking not continuity, I just noticed I said that last night. Was late I was half asleep 😂 absolutely anytime bud,

Could you use the insulation tester for solar panel wiring and their RIso errors?

nice job. i wonder if there was any chance the wire could have been rubbing against the drum, causing it to expose the copper over time? then maybe as it rubs it gets moved and after a while the exposed copper touched the metal drum, causing an RCD trip? or maybe as it gets hot, the wire becomes softer and moves towards the drum or chassis? i might have totally skewed logic but this was my first thought when seeing that wire.

Maybe I said that later on in the video. Except I thought that it was rubbing the side casing.

Humidity/water leakage was my first guess. RCDs are sensitive to those kind of faults, and it's not not live to earth, but neutral to earth too.

hey Mate, phone has truly died, second of the two lg5's. Think my on button is broke on the one i've been using. bought a newish to me phone off backmarket (google pixel 6 pro) to replace it but that's gonna take a few days to get to me. might take the screen off the lg5 five with the broken on button and replace the broken screen on the one i was previously using. That might get me reachable till the new one gets here. or i might not bother.
