Thank you so much for this lesson! It was very interesting and hugely helpful. I was unfamiliar with this tool and am so happy to have learned about it.
I always keep my guidelines horizontal and vertical, like in the video (I prefer along the edge of the nose/tear duct), so it doesn't really matter if the head is tilted; just measure your points. That said, I sometimes add one line that runs through the tear ducts to help me see the angle of the eyes. Hope this helps!
Hello Marina. Thank you so much for this demonstration. This was very helpful to me on how to use this tool. And, now, it makes so much sense to me. I do have a question about where you drew the reference cross lines on the photo. Why did you choose to draw the cross lines on the one side of the face rather than through the center of the face/nose/mouth? Is it because her face is turned and the line goes through the center of the neck? Or, does it really not matter because the scale divider would work the same no matter? Again, thank you so muich for this explanation.
Hi Shiela, happy that you found it helpful, I really love this tool. It doesn't matter where you draw the cross lines. I almost always draw the line next to the nose and across the eyes, no matter what the position of the head is, I guess it is a personal preference. The only disadvantage of the tool is that the points are a bit blunt so there is a certain inaccuracy if you want to draw a really detailed portrait. Let me know if you have more questions!
This tool, comes with 3 issues, all 3 fixable. The 1st is the fact it doesn't stay locked where it should be. That can be fixed by adding a piece of rubber under the screw. The 2nd issue is the tips that come unfinished means uneven or not accurate or both. That can be fixed with sand paper, files etc and a bit of work. The 3d issue is the more difficult to fix and that's the fact that it doesn't come with scale numbers, so you can't choose accurately how much bigger or smaller you want to go. I'm sure that people have found out what numbers this should come with, so they have put stickers with the proper scale numbers on them!

Good job 👏
Thank you, most informative. Can you explain further how you place the two guide lines on a head that may be tilted or in 3/4 view. Thank you
