What you learned is totally different from what I taught. The scripts you mentioned are IPA. What I taught is phonics that native speakers learned it when they were little kids. Many Chinese learners think /z/ and /s/ are different in shape. So their pronunciation should be different. in practice when they are pronounced at the end of words, difference is little. One is unvoiced.the other is voiced. As an English teacher I certainly know what you mean. But what I taught is phonics.
