I am eventually able to understand English movies fully without subtitles after living in Canada for 10 years. Before moving to Canada I’m IELTS level 8. The challenge back then was a lack of authentic English learning materials in early 2000.
I think the one thing they have in common is that they already lived in a native English-speaking country as a child or they had 1 to 1 tutoring before. If you haven’t lived in North America or Europe until after high school, unfortunately you're probably not going to be a native speaker for the rest of your life.
I had similar experiences in terms of getting a lot of input information. For example, finding a stable conversation partner, it was quite interesting since my English partners and friends all came from online video games.
There's also talent, some people are naturally better at languages (easier and faster to pick up than average). That doesn't mean we shouldn't try these teniques. Also, some people just can't get rid of their original accent doesn't matter how hard they try, please don't feel guilty about it, it's totally normal.
thank you for your video. I am from China and am struggling in learning English especially spoken English. You said English input is crucial, but it seems not applicable for Chinese students who have relatively good reading and listening ability. However, they are less likely to speak fluently😂
there's no doubt that Chinese student often make a large amount of practice on writing and listening English, but the main purpose is for school eduction or academic. I just found that Europeans usually seem to speak more fluently in English despite the fact that they might misuse certain words and grammar. I've watched tons of anime back then but my Japanese improved only after I studied certain basic grammar like what is hiragana, katakana and how a Japanese sentence constructed. If you know nearly nothing about that language, you can never improve... so I really, cannot believe someone successfully learn a language before they learnt any fundamental knowledge of that language😑😑
comprehensible input is the core concept to learn any language When we were a infant, we all experienced a silent period, where we would not speak one word no matter how hard our parent tried, several months later, we started to pick up the language and imitate what the parent said. People thought when we spoke is the beginning of language acquisition, it is not. It is actually the result of language acquisition by a lot of comprehensible input from out parent. So according to this concept, we have to find the material that fit our language level and also the content that you enjoy to consume. With the correct approach, you will improve dramatically
This is the very video I was looking for! Actually i have done a lot of research on how to enhance a language in a correct way. I have formed some of my own thinking, and this video makes me believe I am right with a lot of supporting evidence, which makes it all clear to me.
Can someone kindly provide me some hints how to get rid of the translating process? I find out hard to prepare my thoughts ready before talking. My thoughts are in a mess and I feel like a 3-year old child if thinking in English.😂
这句话依然适用:以大部分人的努力程度之低,完全不到拼天赋的程度。
如果觉得英语学不好,输入可能比别人少了一个数量级。
真相了
英语是所有需要学习的目标中最能反映努力的,因为只要是人类就会说话,就能学会英语,不存在“天赋”的问题。这并不像数学、物理、艺术等等需要“天赋”
@@myles_wang 我不这样认为。

How to choose the proper materials?

感谢这个视频,我现在上cambly感觉效果很一般,输出有助于克服心理障碍,增强熟练度。但是如果没有输入,输出的都是垃圾,也只是增加垃圾的熟练度。我虽然也有读英文报刊,但因为其实对阅读材料并不感兴趣,所以没有持之以恒。
Thank you so much for your sharing, the vital points you mentioned in the video are exactly what I should stick to in my future English acquisition.
大部分同意 but 對成年人學英語而言 輸岀絕對比光輸入有用 而且高效 兒童學語言的方式可以借鑒 但無法複製 因為他們是直接把事物跟語言聯接 而我們早已用母語認知了這個世界 成人不可能裝做不知道天上那東西叫太陽
Thanks I am struggle for the IELTS learning, and that inspire me.
@@allenz.4153那必然好看
还有个例子就是金庸,能写出精彩的小说,但是说话磕磕巴巴。
但是,我觉得这不能证明输出的重要性。他们用的是母语,他们缺少练习母语的机会吗?当然不是。他们只是天生不擅长说话罢了。
sufficient input materail is so important. Once I had been listening BBC podcast in my way to work for about 40min, my english improved just 2 monthes
