Audi RSQ8 Review - Cheaper than its rivals...but better?

Audi has built a name on fast wagons and now, with the RSQ8, they're hoping those expertise and that reputation translates into success in the world of unnecessarily powerful SUVs.
The Q8 was never what we would have described as slow, even with a diesel-burner under the bonnet. But moderate performance doesn't cut it in a world where the BMW X5M, Mercedes-AMG GLE 63, Range Rover Sport SVR, Porsche Cayenne Turbos and Jaguar F-Pace SVR are all vying for motorists' moolah.
And so the RSQ8 borrows heavily from the Audi RS6, with the same twin-turbo, 4.0-litre V8 up front, driving all four wheels. Air suspension is standard and some huge wheels are on offer; our test unit was riding on 23inch alloys!
Our video guy Ciro De Siena had the Killarney racetrack in Cape Town all to himself which allowed him to make use of all those kilowatts and Newton's meters, to bring you this review.

I must say I've had the pleasure of driving the RSQ8. It was a rather exhilarating experience. The ride quality is on point, the power and the torque are on another level.

I genuinely overlooked this beast until I had the pleasure of being a passenger in a standard Q8 3.0 45 and my word😮😮😮! That thing moves like it’s a hot hatch

Looks aggressively fast, and Audi does not disappoint when t comes to interior design and perceived quality. Nice engine sound (for the petrolhead)

Rs6 is a fucken limousine its way too long
No ground clearance
I built one to specification of the x6m competition and when you do the price difference falls away. To get the limiter removed you have to get the carbon ceramic disks nd they costs an arm and leg

I own one! It's fantastic! Lots of fun to drive! Most people don't have a clue what it is! We use it for family so for that reason I chose it over rs6. I actually think it looks better than the rs6?

In SA, unless you never leave the city, SUVs are a necessity.
Depends on your needs.
Cayenne/Macan: better steering, better finish, posher yet subtle
BMW/Alfa Stelvio: more sporty, more angry
Bentayga/Cullinan: more comfy
Land Cruiser/Jeep: offroad
Merc: a bit of everything
For my own requirement, a Macan GTS/turbo is the sweet spot.
I wish there is a Macan Turbo S/Turbo GT though.

I just lost 1.1 seconds to 100km/h to that Audi ... I lost the sound too ... But won with 7.6 litres per 100kms ... Instead of the 16.9 litres per 100kms ... And saved myself a Million Rand ... X3 M40d

I think the graphics on the screen behind the steering wheel aren't as great as the ones on the infotainment screen because you are not supposed to drive while looking at that screen but above the steering wheel. The infotainment screen on the other hand can be easily avoided since it ain't right in front of you.

The problem in South Africa (see Carte Blanch affirmation) is the fact that you're pay about R20.00/litre for fuel there!! What is this [gorgeous and very expensive] Audi going to cost you in running and maintenance costs. I dread to think what a trip from Johannesburg to Cape Town would cost you?

I don’t understand fast SUVs. They cannot be more agile, fun to drive and faster than their saloon, coupe or roadster counterparts. In my opinion, they look ridiculous, but it is my opinion. I can understand having a practical SUV (e.g Audi SQ5) for the family and a sportier car - cabrio / roadster, etc. (sticking to the Audi theme - Audi TTRS or S5 Coupe). Both cars for the price of the RSQ8. Just my cents. It does look interesting though.
If i had 2M I'd also get the RS6 and that's great consumers advice 😂
I'd just get an LC500 instead. The RS6 is a really nice car with great features, but I've always been the type of person who doesn't like to play with money... so if I'm going to dump a whopping 2 mil on just a single car, I would choose a real car and not a toy that I will have to sell after 5 years.

Just like Audi is a sub-brand of Volkswagen, Lexus is a sub-brand of Toyota.
So even though Lexus has many features and big engines, Toyota still makes a great effort to make sure that everything they put in the Lexus is as reliable and long-lasting as possible.
And let me assure you of one thing. You will NEVER see a Lexus that is broken down on the side of the road and has to be towed away.
But you don't have to take my word for it. You can approach any Lexus owner that you come across in public and ask them why they chose Lexus over other luxury brands.
