    Last October we bought a table that a neighbour had out on their front lawn with a "Sale $30" sign on it. After we walked over to look at it a couple of times he said take it for $20! I was in love with the base. It was not in the best shape (especially the top) so I knew it would be a 'project' but had never refinished anything before. So back in October I found this video and painted the base charcoal black (whole table was cherry wood colour). We were also able to get the top sanded but the weather was too cold to to do the staining in the garage (or out on the deck). FINALLY we have had some nice weather and table is done (with a medium colour wood top) and absolutely gorgeous!!! This video made it look easy and overall it actually wasn't bad!

    Trick for can paints. Punch nail holes in the rim area where the lid sits so that excess paint drips back inside.

    Another beautiful piece, the color contrast really works for this table and I personally like the way you do two tones - your choices in stain & paint color complement each other quite nicely.

    It turned out really pretty, but I would like a little bit darker gray. If you wanted a darker gray would you just put a second coat on it and then wipe it down?

    • @ChristinaMuscari
      @ChristinaMuscari  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You could do that- or you could just leave the stain on a bit longer before wiping it back.

  • @brianmorrison9168
    @brianmorrison9168 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    06:58 You can see where you overlapped the central section when you were doing the edges, as there is 'double strength' stain in this position. Surely you should have taped off the central area while doing the edge.

    • @ChristinaMuscari
      @ChristinaMuscari  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Seems like you could do that if you are concerned about the stain overlapping. Applying a prestain wood conditioner would make the finish more even as well. We actually liked the way it looked having that dark ring around the table, but I like your idea for those who want an even finish.

    Great video work, instruction and end result! My question is why you stripped the table top so completely, because when you did the "other side" on the game table side, you merely roughed it up and the results look similar. The only reason I can determine is that the finish was damaged so much that you felt it necessary, or perhaps it was just as easy to run the orbital on the large surface area. Would you mind letting me know?

    Hi thank u for ur awesome videos. They r so informative and ur pieces looks amazing!!! ❤️
    I have a question if u could pls help. I’ve asked others on different TH-cam videos but never get a reply. I’m sanding down a table kinda like the one in this video. It’s a dark colored wood table. I’m using a 80 grit sanding paper but I feel like it’s not pulling up stain? If that even makes sense. I watch other TH-camrs sand down there tables and their tables look so white after sanding mine is still kind of dark am I doing something wrong? My table is not this yellow/orange color. It’s a darker wood color.

    Hi. I have this piece of furniture that I’m going to chalkpaint. (Is there such a verb? 😂) I tihink its lamimate on plywood or mdf. Would you recommend sanding to loose the shiny finish before painting? If yes what coarse should I use with orbital sander? Thanks alot ❤️🙋🏻‍♀️

    • @ChristinaMuscari
      @ChristinaMuscari  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We make it a verb all the time. I would lightly scuff it up with some sand paper (150 grit should work and no need for an orbital sander), then prime, then paint. I think that would give you the best results.
