They could have also given up hope, and voted with fear instead, leaving the EU and closing off their borders to foreigners. One isn't necessarily better or worse than the other. But the left vote is one based stronger on hope, so it's just more relevant to this video. I think saying "hope won for France" isn't some virtue signal, it's not claiming that hope is better. It's just a statement that hope won, because a vote to remain in the EU, and remain open to foreigners and other religions, is a vote based on hope.
