+Salkcin Smash! Thanks buddy. Couldn't have happened without people like you. :)
I GOT THIS ALTO SAX TODAY AND IM SOOO EXCITED
Awesome. Enjoy!
This is my dream horn , late but congratulations. Update?
You were very convincing. Thank you for the demonstration and evaluation.
Hi Pedro. After a lot of thinking and checking your review and another one from Saxophone Library I decided and I bought the 76 2nd edition. Love it. Thank you!
How does it do for classical music?
Very nice demo man. I've been wanting to hear this horn. Thinking of picking one up myself.
You definitely should. I found the tuning, ergonimics, and the quality of materials to be a key factor for me! :)
Keep me posted and let me know what you decide! :)
the reverb on you edit.. is too much.. you sound great you don't need it. Thanks for the review
Nice work Pedro, I picked up a 66RU Tenor and OMG, a keeper
Beautiful horn. Great player.
Thats a beautiful sax
Idina Fanzel it sure is.
I might consider this one thanks man!
Great sound and looks!!
Mario Tobias agreed!
I'm trying to decide on whether to get the System 76 or the the 67R. I'm leaning towards the unlacquered finish just because I like the look, although the dark lacquer looks great too. I guess it comes down to rolled tone holes. I find it hard to believe that rolled tone holes make a big enough difference. If they did, wouldn't all the big horn manufactures put rolled tone holes on their top professional horns?
67 RUL , no comparison. The rolled tone hole’s of the 67 RUL give this horn so much character
Yes, I said the same thing about the Tone hole’s. Also I have a 67 Rul and a 67 RGl , even the lacquer makes a huge difference, I like the RUL. If you like the sound of the vintage Buescher Big B or the Conn’s the RUL is for you.
As a primarily bari sax player who's been considering picking up alto again, I might consider a P. Mauriat. Great video :)
+Mr_Beezlebub glad it helped. :)
That saxophone sounds fucking amazing. I need to get it. I play more classical stuff and slow songs and that sounds beautiful. Great job Pedro
Thanks. Glad I was able to show it its full range and potential! :)
I love the lacquer finish
I've always played the sax with the same mouth piece and I can't do some jazz sounds. Can someone explain me about the diferent kinds of mouthpieces there are?
raoulacb I will make a video about it soon. So stay tuned!!
raoulacb it takes a lot of practice. If you want a good jazz sound, focus on your embochure and try to learn some vibrato. Also, try some improv to tracks on TH-cam.
Hello,,, there are some excellent u tube vids out there that may help ya understand the differences in mouth pieces
Personally it’s all about how you set your embouchure. One thing, don’t play on a stock mouthpiece because it can only go so far. Get a mouthpiece like Meyer to start out and when you get a better handle, get a metal plated mouthpiece. For sounds, I would suggest just find how you want to sound. Do you want a softer and smoother sound? Or do you want a fatter darker sound? All depends on preference. Effects to learn would be verbrato, growl and eventually split tones when you get advanced. For reeds, I still play Vandoren V16 on my Alto for all occasions, but my tenor plays on Jazz Select Hard 2 Unfiled.
Excellent Review and Sound .
Pedro, Do you have a link to where you bought your P. Mauriat System 76
+JsQuad Family you can check www.wwbw.com they sell inside the US.
Hi Pedro.
love your review of the alto. Would it be possible for you to make a review of the tenor and soprano (p mauriat)?
Hi Pedro, has the Grand Dreams 285 the similar Bell size like this System 76 or it has a smaller Bell ?
I'm about to pick up a newly purchased 2010 Mauriat swing 55 tenor. Do you have any knowledge/thoughts about this model?
if I just listen to the sax sound it is very similar to violin.
Hi, i would like yo know wich mouth pieces are you showin in this video please, i love your both sounds, greetings from Guatemala!
Esse sax simplesmente lindo, eu queria um😭😍
awesome video pedro! I'm still trying to decide between the 67r and this system 76 if you recommend either one or have any ideas about the 67r that would be awesome! also could you do a video on your soprano
EklipseGaming same just want to know the big differences between the 67r and system 76
Anthony Diecidue yeah me too
EklipseGaming I'm debating whether I should choose the PM 67r or a Selmer/High-End Yamaha. I play a Yamaha rn and I love the ergonomic so I'm kinda stuck with this decision of these 3
Anthony Diecidue yeah same with me I have a yamaha and I love it but they end up being a little pricy
EklipseGaming pm you will love it
Pedro , please, which sax do you think that has the darkest sound, this p.mauriat 76 or the Selmer Series II you said you used to play ??
Imagine a collab between P. Mauriat and Vandoren... Oh. My. God.
+brandon_duhburrito imagine me reviewing all the Vandoren reeds styles back to back... which I’m working on. Stay tuned!!
Music By Pedro WAIT REALLY?!?!? OMG OMG!!! You got me excited now omgggg
Great review and demo! I see that yours has double bracing on some of the bell keys, but the stock photos on the Mauriat and
retailer websites only show single bracing. I am considering purchasing one soon, but was curious whether P. Mauriat has changed the design from a double-brace to single-brace design... Do you know the answer and/or is your sax a custom model? Thanks
+Dan Wimpari that's a great question. I'd recommend sending an email to adam.macblane@stlouismusic.com since that's the distributor in the US and can answer that questions as I only have the one alto. 🙂
Thank you Sir - great playing & great videos!
Awesome. Let me know what he says, I'm curious to learn also! :D
I've been playing a kinda meh sax, so this sounds like a good next step, especially since my band director wants me to play tenor (ours started playing bari and he would like all three)
So.. here we are 7 years later. Are you still playing the Mauriat?
Hello Pedroo! I am also a Pedro haha
Please, your “ classical “ set up in this vídeo ... Do you use de selmer S80 ?! If so, do you use the S80 C* or the C** ( double star) ? Thanks!!
I tried their Soprano in the same finish and LOVED it. I actually liked it more than the Yamaha 82Z i went to look at! The P. Mauriat Soprano has a an AWESOME full sound. Try one man, and do a review of it!
MARKLINMAN1 I'm planning on getting one in January so I'll share what I think of it then for sure!!
nitroandy5960 that was just something I made up on the moment. :)
looks pretty nice :D
thanks Pedro!!!! based on this video I got a trade in for a 67 - love it!!!!!! Is the 76 better for jazz? different? Thanks!!!!!!
Hi Pedro. Was wondering if you tried the P Mauriats influence and rolled tone hole models? If so.... what were your likes and dislikes compared to the one you ended up purchasing. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
Gipstetz I did try them but I just felt the sound on the System 76 was the sound I was looking for!!
I got really confused when I heard System 76. I thought of the company that makes Linux Laptops.
That's exactly what I was thinking!
Awesome maybe when i get enough money i'll get one. i play a student model saxophone. it's so much fun
+Hydro Sword awesome! :)
I have been stumped with what professional saxophone I should go with. I am stuck between this, or a Yanagisawa. Which do you recommend? I like a darker tone if that affects the decision at all
you can definitely get a darker tone if you go with the P Mauriat (as shown in my classical demo). I'd highly recommend for you! :)
Music By Pedro Thanks a lot Pedro, I love your music a lot! Keep up the good work!
Nice man, I may have one before you, lololo. I am going to try a Yani SC992 and also a KEILWERTH SX90II. Tried a recent KEILWERTH SX90II and it was freakin Awesome, I was not crazy about it being black nickel. If neither one of those 2 speak to me, the P. Mauriat will be coming home with me. Want to try those 2 with my recent LEBAYLE 7* Soprano that I just bought. Only had the Otto Tonemaster before, I think the Lebayle will give me the sound I am looking for. You have a GREAT channel! 👍👍👍👍👍👍.
MARKLINMAN1 try the System 76 and let me know what you think.
I did, and LOVED it!
MARKLINMAN1 awesome! Glad to hear! :)
Hi, I was very impressed from your video and the 76 Alto, I want to buy my new Alto sax and I want to know the difference between 67R to 76 ? could you please advise?
I'm really stuck on getting this sax or the Cannonball Gerald Albright sax. Any suggestions?
Bryce Davis up to you. If it was me I'd still go with the PM :)
Music By Pedro thanks!
Nice! So random question, is there any time you will be in Northern New Jersey playing a gig?
Running_Boy_12 no plans to be in jersey. You got a gig for me?
Amei sem som🔝👏👏👏Qual boquilha usa?
You would believe the UL version of this 76 would sounds warmer/fuller. Pedro, have you tried the UL model?
Hi Pedro, I've just upgraded from my Yamaha YAS 280 and bought a P. Mauriat System 76 2nd Edition. My first impression is that the horn looks great and it feels quite solid and is definitely heavier than my Yamaha. I`m not a pro but I can definitely tell this is a very different horn than what I`m used to playing. There are two things what are concerning me though quite a lot. The first being that it is much harder to blow than my Yamaha and the second is that the horn doesn't seem to scream in the higher registers like my Yamaha can. I don`t think there are any leaks; all the notes play OK. I tried the P. Mauriat horn with my Yamaha neck and it seemed to blow a lot more freely. So it could be related to the neck, or does all this sound normal? The sound is definitely much more smoother than the Yamaha and when I play notes without the octave key it sound very nice like what I understand a vintage sound should sound like, but it seems like I've lost something at the top end. I should also mention that the horn has not been setup, it cam direct from the factory.
Any advise you can offer would be much appreciated.
Yamahas tend to be brighter and more free-blowing than most saxes out there, so what you're describing is unsurprising. Sometimes changing one component of you setup will require changing others as well - you could try a softer reed for less resistance, for example. Also it's definitely worth having a good tech check out the horn.
@@lukasalihein Thanks for your feedback. In fact, since I've got more used to the horn and experimented about I have made the following discoveries, which I would like to share with you.
When, I tune my horn with my iPhone app, I found that it was consistently half a semitone or more flat right through the horn. At first this was a real concern for me and I even contacted the distributor to see what they had to say. I also noticed that it is very difficult to bend notes with this horn.
What I have concluded is that, if the horn is cold it plays flat, this may be normal, I don`t know. Once the horn warms up it is better but I needed to put the mouthpiece right to the end of the cork for it to play in tune, which isn't ideal in my opinion. Note, at this time I`m playing with a Vandoren Jumbo Java A45 mouthpiece and a size 2 Legere Signature Series reed.
Next, I tried a new mouthpiece, Meyer BA-2 M8M Rubber Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece. This changed everything. Suddenly the saxophone plays in tune and its possible to change the pitch with my ambiture having more control of the tone......
Bottom line, it seems as you said, it is necessary to change other things as well to achieve a good result and not just the sax.
Hey man I've been looking for a soprano sax. I've found some that are good on price but just look junky overall, I've also found one that's a little pricy but it's not too bad and looks like it's works perfectly. I didn't know if you had any recommendations?
+Ninja Angels the PMauriat System 76 is a great horn and I'm actually getting one in the next few weeks to replace the one I currently have. Definitely get that if you're in the market. :)
Music By Pedro he system 76 is a soprano model as well?
Ninja Angels they have a soprano model as well.
So I have a similar story...went to the music store with intentions of trying out some Yamaha altos when the lady bought out a 67R...now I’m in love. Just curious...are they about the same? I’ve yet to try the System 76...
Rolled tones holes are not my personal presence, so I'm excited to that P Mauriat has a wide range of choices.
It doesn't seem like anyone has asked this but will you do we are number one?
YESS!! i played that around my school (mainly careless whipser) and the trumpets joined in making it amazing lol
Hello.
I heard things about this p mauriat saxes. I heard they play well, with a fuller warm sound, vintage tone with core and that they have meat in tone if u know what i mean.
But i heard they are flat somehow... This thing scares me...
How do u feel your p mauriat? Is the Intonation good, steady?
Hi Dani. I found the intonation to be spot on. No issues here! :)
Do you use mouthpeice pads? If so what are they? Thank you😊
For the top of the mouthpiece?
Music By Pedro Yes
fantastic video, really helpful, might get one of those but can't decide for that or a 67r.. but I couldn't help but notice how while you were pointing out things on this artwork, you were looking the other way at God knows what... what were you looking at XD
+caden silberlicht what particular moment are you referring to? 😃
Also the 67R is also a great horn. If you can try both then make a decision I'd recommend that.
Oh. Yeah if you watch the video, when you pointed things out on the sax, you were looking somewhere else. Where were you looking XD. And btw, I am pretty sure I want a 67r
Can you make a vid for the 67R?
Pedro do you play on a vintage Meyer or a modern Meyer?
YiYi The Wuster modern Meyer. But I'm gonna be making the switch to a JodyJazz DV, or Giant, or Jet, after I try them out in the next week or so.
I've always wanted to play a soprano sax. I am currently playing an alto. Can anyone recommend any intermediate soprano sax model and brand?
there really isn't a difference between an intermediate and professional soprano at that point, other than some materials being less expensive. P Mauriat makes a System 76 soprano (similar to the Alto you just saw) and I think that would be a great horn for you to try!
Music By Pedro Ok thanks for the recommendation. But may I ask about how much does a System 76 costs because money is one of the factors I have to keep in mind, and also i live in Malaysia so the converting rate is quite a bit
Joshua Kong I have no clue what it would cost for you. I'd suggest contacting the nearest music store and see if they sell it and for how much :)
Music By Pedro Ok thank you so much
Is that the 2nd edition?
Great video. Curious though, does this sax come with any mouthpiece? Regardless, I would use my current Vandoren V16. If it does, what is its specs? Thanks, Pedro. :)
~K
I tried alto, but I fell in love with the tenor. I'm looking to buy a new one and I'm curious as to the one you use. It looks similar to the alto you use.
Chance Price in the description it says he uses the same model p.mauriat system 76 tenor model
Chance Price same exact model. I have a review of it coming out in the next few weeks but spoiler, I absolutely love just as much!! :)
Los saxophones P. Mauriat son de baja gama. Son solo para estudiantes.
Pedro, why have you stopped uploading? Taking a break?
Hey buddy, not taking a break. Just been really busy with some things, nothing bad or anything, but I plan to be back to it in the next week or so. :)
Thanks for the response!
Pedro I am a 12 year old 3 year alto sax player and my teacher was impressed by my first sound and she has been pushing me to more advanced things than my age group. This year she wants me to go for all city and she wants me to get a new saxophone because my mendini sax doesn’t cut it for her, so I want a jean paul AS 400 but i get no clear review on it and my decision can get risky so can i a get a review before the beginning of December please and if you do thank you.
I'm afraid I haven't personally played the JP Saxophones. Sorry! :(
Music By Pedro do you know anyone that has that I can use as info
Tristan Voitcu thanks
is it better than the selmer reference 54
Dean Haynes I think so. I've played the Reference before and was not impressed.
That looks awesome! How mutch money was it?
TheMorningGamer depends on what country you live. :)
Howabout the United States?
TheMorningGamer check out www.wwbw.com and see what they offer! :)
its so beautiful... would love to horn like that (rip money)
How good is it at playing rock/pop?
+Brian Stewart definitely enjoy it.
I know it sounds kinda crazy but may it be possible to play Glenn Miller's 'In the Mood'? It's not typical for your channel, I know but it would be kinda cool! :)
+Der Mario might be a possibility. I'll add it to my long list of songs to cover.
why didn't you show the inside of the case
Hi Pedro!
That's the matte finish?
Yeah, its the Dark "Vintage" finish. What do you think?
It's gorgeous. Sold my 1937 King Zephyr alto as the sound wasn't doing it for me. I'm playing a Bundy I tenor right now and am looking for another alto. Thanks for the review! Enjoy all your videos.
i alsao play P-Mauriat but Tenor saxophone i have the 55swing jx it has brass bell copper bodey bow and neck so the collors are nice
didn't you use to play a black nickel soprano?
This is an Alto, but yeah I did a loonnngg time ago! :)
Music By Pedro
I know its an alto. I was just interested :) will you ever do a video about it?
Sunhat Grooves I thought about it, but its such a bad horn I don't think I'd even want to play it for a video.
Music By Pedro
Oh wow I didn't know it was so bad XD alright thanks for explaining. keep being cool Pedro! :D
Sunhat Grooves :)
Is it heavy?
+Daniel Guzman nah. With a good neckstrap like a neotech you can actually distribute the weight to your shoulders instead of your neck.
I have a p mauriat bare brass 66rul tenor it's a great player
oh awesome, I've seen the unlacquered, but I haven't tried one. Thanks for sharing! :)
Keep in mind this is quite an expensive sax.. At least 3 grand. So it certainly should sound and feel great at that price point.
that's a nice sax, you could even say it's saxy lol
HILARIOUS AND ORIGINAL
+Abe Ahmed haha
Lol nice joke there 😄
Have you ever considered a cannonball sax
I have but I was not impressed after trying one.
Kirby king Dede theme? Plz
Pedro, is there any chance you could do a Give Away? Particularly a Tenor or Bari?
+Paranoid Synthesizer you want me to give away a tenor or a bari sax? Maybe if I was made of money :)
Heh I wish.
Sounds like a nice horn but I can see it having a Lon list of things to fix.
thanks so much for your feed back :)
By the 66th rule Awa
smooth jazz shite
Does anyone know his email
my email is pedro@musicbypedroproductions.com
That's the same alto I have
FroShow woo!
I play a alto and it's a regular Jupiter
Narwhal Potato My Tenor is a Jupiter. My Alto is a Cannonball
how do you like the alto?
JsQuad Family it's good I play it in band it was used but I got it when I joined band 3 years ago
The 67 Rul can’t be touched.
the classical setting of your playing sounds like a violin
I'm not very experienced; just a freshman in HS. But how should a saxophone sound in a classical set up? Like a violin, or what? Please reply when you have the chance, thanks you! =)
@@issaccamarena8644 sorry for the late reply, but in my honest opinion, classical saxaphone tends to have a very rich and straight tone and lots of vibrato. if you pay attention to a violin, you might get what I mean :P
@@ank0559
Ah right, thank you very much. I will try. Thank you!
Too much talk - no demo, can this dude play????
