Fun Fact about the Night Lords: this legion is so notorious for its fear and terror tactics that when the Emperor ordered to "pacify" a human planet for not agreeing to be part of the Imperium of Man, the legion went on that planet and almost killed the entire population until the planet finally agreed to join the Imperium and it only took place in less than 24 hours.

@@blakebrouwer3266 they would attack at night time. Kill everyone they meet while maintaining stealth. If given the opportunity, torture innocent civilians for the sheer fun of it. Skinning people alive in order to make their power armor look "cool". Televise their torture live so that there next "victims" actually feel fear. Everything that centers around fear and terror tactics and ramp it up to 11 is basically their tactics.

The most interesting thing about these rude dudes is even though they are a “chaos” space marine faction and live in the warp they actually don’t follow any Chaos gods and typically frown upon their worship within their ranks. Their end goal is to become gods themselves.

Fun fact: the nightlords once boarded and killed every crew member on the flag ship of a world that refused to join the imperium. They then skind every single person (somewhere around 20k) and rained their bodies on the world's capital city like a cadaver hail storm from orbit. 😁
Korad curze didnt love his “sons” because they were precisely what he wanted to destroy. Konrad is a misunderstood fellow, he though the emperor was a hypocrite and I agree.

Lore wise he supposedly uses her for testing his new diseases and she secretly passes messages of cures to them to the materiam.

One interesting note: The Night Lords never sided with Horus, they were declared renegade before Horus united the traitor Primarchs, and the Night Haunter was killed before the battle of Isstvan V took place.
Additionally, most Night Lords view chaos corruption as an abomination just like loyalist Astartes do, though only most.
*Also the Night Lords are a lot more nuanced and deeper than just being edgy space marines, they have awesome pre-Heresy lore and culture, you should all look into it if you're interested

Fun fact: one time the 8th legion where sent to a solar system to subjugate it. A planetary defense minister sent in a ship of a thousand men to defeat the Nightlords single ship. When the planetary defense ship return people rejoiced over the defeat of the Nightlords that they held parades while the ship started to land. The ship then hovered over the festivities and started opening its airlocks. From there bodies started falling onto the crowd, those bodies where the former crew members that where skinned alived. The Nightlords then started broadcasting the fear and terror the crowds had to nearby planets and within the week the entire solar system surrendered and where subjugated to the Imperium of Man. The cost of human lives was only 1000

Wes, I would really like to see you cover some of the smaller stories in the lore. Things like Rylanor, loyalist space marines from traitor legions, some of the stuff from books like Gaunt’s Ghosts and other things of the like. Some of these smaller parts of the lore make for some of the best Warhammer has to offer, and since you are showing the setting to a lot of new people, they can show a lot of the best things from the setting.

Their home planet, Nostramo, was originally a dark and crime-ridden planet until Konrad arrived there when the Primarchs were scattered. He essentially became the boogieman, butchering criminals and leaving their destroyed corpses for all to see. His tactics actually worked in bringing crime way down. This worked well for the Primarch and for a time after Nostramo was brought under Imperial rule, but when it was forced to go by the Imperium's laws, crime shot back up. This pissed off Konrad and was one of the reasons why he sided with the fallen Horus.
They fell in chaos but didn't betray the emperor

Adeptus ridiculous is also good if you are interested in a podcast format. Majorkill is good if you want it to be presented in 10 minutes. Baldermort is good if you want to understand the topic on a spiritual level. Luetin09 is good for more obscure lore. Most everyone else is either hard to listen to or simply boring

@@theabomb8305 I'd personally argue that making absolute moral arguments is kinda a moot thing when talking about 40k. Everything is just so fucked that our current moral compasses wouldn't work.
What I was mainly bringing up is the fact that the Salamanders still care for humanity and those around them. That's why I think they're the only relatively 'good' guys in the imperium. Are they truly good...I mean they fight for the imperium so no.
In 30k(Horus Heresy) you can argue that there are good guys.
It is kinda like the fall from an originally not that bad Imperium that makes the HH so interesting imo

In all fairness all the legions served an specific rule for the imperium, the fist and IW were builders, while the BA, WE and DG where used as shock troopers. The night lords purpose was psychological warfare and to punish those that rebelled after kneeling, it doesn't help that most of the recruitment was from the prisoners of terra and later nostramo.

Why wouldn't it be? The Emperor was trying to guide humanity forcefully. What does it matter if the Night Lords are eating babies and the World Eaters are slaughtering people with legitimate greviances?
The only defeat that the Night Lords might be embarrassed is probably when they tried to use their tactics against the Dark Eldars, turning off the lights and power source so they would get blinded by the darkness. But the DE deployed a device that emit so much darkness that any light would be impossible. The DE massacred alot of the Night lords during the fight and forcing them to flee in the battle due to fear.

Fun Fact: When half the legions turned traitor, their primarchs purged their ranks. For most, they were carefully picking who to take out. Konrad Curze? He didn't know where to START in terms of who to massacre because he despised nearly every one of them. The only one who might match the hatred he held towards his sons might have been Angron, and he literally had nails in his brain that made him angry 24/7.

It might have been fine if the Night Haunter had never left his homeworld, because there was peace on his planet while he was there but when he left that's when thing got out of hand and prisoners were sent to join and slowly corrupted the legion.
Just letting you know, i always wanted to learn 40k lore but it just seemed so daunting of a task, but your shorts and full length videos are absolutely amazing for me, i can finally digest the info

The reason for their brutality was actually that they didnt want to kill needlessly, the night lords had some of the lowest kill counts while capturing planets.
I discovered warhammer through the total war games and really loved the fantasy theme, I had heard about 40k but never thought I’d be interested in it until I found this Channel!
As a new Night Lord fan, I appreciate the lore from you. Everyone here whose interested should definitely look more into Night Lord stories since they are actually one of the few Traitor Legions who usually despise Demons and refuse to worship chaos gods . They'll still take the power from them but don't offer them praise

Fell? To Chaos? They freaking marched, proudly, into Chaos.
No, they didn't.
They never wore the Imperial Eagle. You can't fall to Chaos if you were never really loyal in the first place.
Chaos is more of set of tools to the Night Lords - fully disposable - something which they can use, take, or leave at will.
Some were corrupted, but not the majority of the Legion. And certainly not until after the murder of The Night Haunter.
Remember - The Nostroman-born are all liars, murderers, sociopaths, psychopaths, rapists, schizophrenics, butchers, etc.
The Terran-born are/were masterful tacticians trained in the arts of war, stealth, fear, and terror.
The creepy thing isn't that they essentially scared their targets into submission, it's that it has so many benefits over the mass scale warfare that costs many times more lives. The scary thing is that you could make a real convincing argument that these tactics were very effective and came at a minimal cost. Their role was to be tamed monsters the imperium could use to maintain order with minimal cost.

It also made them the legion with the least human casualty, sure a thousand humans of men, women and children can't even be recognized a human after what the night lords did to them but the rest of the planet quickly bowed down due to how horrific it was for them. Also Konrad really hated the fact that Nocturn sent deranged established criminals to be recruits and blew up his own planet after seeing what happened to it after he lefr.

Friendly reminder- they were supposed to originally recruit from the high Noble families from nostromo but the primarchs lack of presence lead to the world falling back into the extreme crime rates they once were at before the primarch was even put there making all their recruits be psychopaths- though I’m sure not much would’ve truthfully changed haha
