- In this video I breakdown why I think Hugo Gaston is the biggest clown in tennis. Multiple instances in 2023 have led me to believe this. Nick Kyrgios and Benoit Paire are honorable mentions.

French had a lot of tennis clowns. Paire, Moutet, and now we got this Gaston guy
being French, that's sad but true... All three have their share of talent, but despicable mentality...
I would not put Moutet in that list. It's true that Moutet is an angry man on the court, smashing rackets, talking to the empires etc. But we cannot contest that he is giving all he has for the sport. He has been playing the whole year with a big injury and he just tried and tried and tried to be the most competitiv as he can

Monfils is a showman.. but there are moments where he touches clown territory...

Wow, that ball he took out of his pocket is the most blatant cheating I've ever seen on a tennis court. The other stuff wasn't much different than a bunch of other players (the retirement on match point was ridiculous but didn't really change anything), but that ball was egregious. I'm glad he got a hefty fine.

Wow I have known Hugo from like 12 years ago, we played doubles on some tennis Europe tournament and used to practice on the tournaments with each other. He was such a sweet kid
I liked him very much until I saw this video : I was unaware of his childish and unacceptable behaviour. His match against Thiem at the French Open, which he narrowly lost, and the match against Wawrinka which he won at the same tournament, were classics.

In France, we have original tennis players, benoit Paire, Gael Montfils, Corentin Moutet and Hugo Gaston. We know how to lose despite of a big talent....

You are pretty much right, I remember an incident with him from Barcelona a few years ago, I think it was against Evans and chair umpire was Nacho Forcadell

3:11 and 1:54 were the only clown moments i saw in this vid. Tour is full of these types of players and i think the tension in the match makes them do these kinda things.

Moutet as well, seems there's a commonality between short Frenchmen and being clowns.
Correlation is not causation. French are generally shorter on average, so if you see a French player cheating it is quite likely he will be short because most of them are short.
@@Stu49583 Not really, their average is pretty solid and their are many french giants on tour, I think the short ones in particular stand out because there's really only 2 that come to mind as short and they're both clowns, that a 100% hit rate 🤣🤣
@@Tronny okay, but how about all the other short ones who were never clowns? Like Santoro for example? Or Grojean and Clement. These were all short 5'7 to 5'8 french players and were not clowns. But I agree that by chance Moutet and Gaston are big clowns and disgrace. Also there are countless other clowns in tennis, even French, who are clowns but not short. Kyrgos and Bublik are clowns but not short.

The way he 'charged' the net is totally legal ... that's why the umpire did not have an issue with it.
The issue was the opponent's shot was in (as seen in the replay) but was called out. Nothing about Gaston charging the net.
You're not allowed to interfer with the opponent's swing. But I think there was enough distance in this case for Carballes to hit the smash unhindered.

No it looks in. Use 1:05 instead which clearly shows it's on the line. 1:16 has doesn't have those frames. That umpire was right on both counts.
what happened against Carballes Baena was not his fault
At first I thought Moutet was the worst young, short, left-handed French player. Guess we were wrong.
French players have weird technique, its like they learn tennis themselves just having fun on court not bothering about how to swing right. Gasquet using continental grip, Paire having weird forehand, Moutet is simply crazy, Gaston can't hit hard, so overuse dropshots...
All are from france, def not a coincidence. Manarinno is also a clown sometimes, he was mocking Shelton the entire match. Paire, Gaston, Moutet, sometimes even Monflis ... It happens in other sports like Basketball , you can see some FIBA games againts Spain...
Besides the intentionally dropping the ball , all others are because of frustrating umpire calls , he isnt even close to being a clown. Real clowns are Nick and Paire .

He is the type of arrogant player that thinks he is too good too play in small challenger tournaments, not realising that there is a reason he still needs to play those (like being too inconsistent or still not managing the pressure of big games, etc.), and blaming it on "bad luck" or "how can this happen to me, I can't lose to this no name guy in this shitty tournament".
Don’t think Kyrgios is comparable at all - I’m biased as he’s the reason I got into Tennis - but AFAIK he’s never done anything like toss a ball to get a let. I know people hate him bc of his behavior but he ain’t no cheater.
