We had this and they came from a poorly managed battery chicken unit. This went on for about five years and the local council said they couldn’t find the reason. When the chicken unit shut down and was replaced with a storage unit it stopped immediately. The manager of the chicken unit didn’t bother to use the chemicals in the bedding that stop any larvae hatching to save money. Every six weeks when the hens were “ turned around” and the shed doors were opened we experienced a literal plague. I had to purchase mosquito nets so that we could sleep. It will be coming from poor management at one of those farms for sure. The council are probably taking back handlers or are too friendly with said farmers! A friend left our house with a car full after leaving the window down in the heat.
This is horrendous to read. I just commented now, that the flies could be from a pig or other animal farm, where there are high rates of sick, dying and decomposing animals. The councils are in the business of keeping food production going non-stop, even when it's dangerous to the animal health that we eat. Your health was also compromised by living so close to the airborne chemicals being used on the hens, especially when the shed doors opened for "turn around".
It could be some dead animal dumping or inappropriate disposal of poo or other food source for the flies. These flies have to have something to feed off and that is a fact. Nothing for flies to feed off and no flies. All you have to do is find the source.
I remember one dead animal under an office hut at work, it stunk for days. Then one day came into work , flies everywhere, thousands of them, crawling up the windows inside....Remember, only spray the insecticide when you see lenes of their eyes....
Certainly the disgustingly lazy collection of rubbish fortnightly or even longer does not help the fly situation in the UK as a whole. Many bins develop maggots in the summer, ask your own binman.
With food caddy collection 1/52 and other recycling 1/52, and soft plastics to the supermarket, I don't have anything but 1 small bag of tissues and other dry bits for my 3/52 waste collection. Wheelie bins only get rancid when folks throw food in there to rot. I've been much more mindful of how I manage my rubbish since I've not had a wheelie bin. It should be called the 'out of sight, out of mind' lazy bin.
