    We had this and they came from a poorly managed battery chicken unit. This went on for about five years and the local council said they couldn’t find the reason. When the chicken unit shut down and was replaced with a storage unit it stopped immediately. The manager of the chicken unit didn’t bother to use the chemicals in the bedding that stop any larvae hatching to save money. Every six weeks when the hens were “ turned around” and the shed doors were opened we experienced a literal plague. I had to purchase mosquito nets so that we could sleep. It will be coming from poor management at one of those farms for sure. The council are probably taking back handlers or are too friendly with said farmers! A friend left our house with a car full after leaving the window down in the heat.

    • @franceslynch8815
      @franceslynch8815 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      This is horrendous to read. I just commented now, that the flies could be from a pig or other animal farm, where there are high rates of sick, dying and decomposing animals. The councils are in the business of keeping food production going non-stop, even when it's dangerous to the animal health that we eat. Your health was also compromised by living so close to the airborne chemicals being used on the hens, especially when the shed doors opened for "turn around".

  • @ulrikezachmann7596
    @ulrikezachmann7596 หลายเดือนก่อน +62

    It could be some dead animal dumping or inappropriate disposal of poo or other food source for the flies. These flies have to have something to feed off and that is a fact. Nothing for flies to feed off and no flies. All you have to do is find the source.

    • @robertjames4908
      @robertjames4908 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      I remember one dead animal under an office hut at work, it stunk for days. Then one day came into work , flies everywhere, thousands of them, crawling up the windows inside....Remember, only spray the insecticide when you see lenes of their eyes....

      With food caddy collection 1/52 and other recycling 1/52, and soft plastics to the supermarket, I don't have anything but 1 small bag of tissues and other dry bits for my 3/52 waste collection. Wheelie bins only get rancid when folks throw food in there to rot. I've been much more mindful of how I manage my rubbish since I've not had a wheelie bin. It should be called the 'out of sight, out of mind' lazy bin.

    This happened a few years ago herein Ireland. Apparently it was caused by constuction workers who accidentally dug up an old dumping site while building a road. I hope that might help you get to the source of the problem. I remember being in the bathroom & they were swarms of flies all of a sudden. I ran downstairs & they were everywhere .it was like something out of a horror movie.

    some dead things around. i had a swarm of couple thousand flies after pest controllers poisoned rats trapped in my kitchen roof. it was hideous and lasted around a month before it finished but came to a pitch on christmas day 2 years ago. despite having ceiling took down and remedial work done a year later the rats came back but id rather live with the smell and scratching of the rats than plagues of flies again, at least rats cant get in the kitchen (yet), but the flies could. horrendous, insurance wont do anymore and pest control can only lay poison and ive no money to replace the extension roof where the rats live obviously climbing up inside the walls to roof. gross. just gotta live with it as we no longer have council help against rodents like we used to because of funding cuts by the govmt from when i dont know. govmnts have been just cutting more and more services in the last 20 yrs. now they want to end the nhs, the country is going to hell.

    Small predators are vanishing. She said it was bad last year, but worse this year.
    A loss of several species of spiders, the birds varieties dissapearing. Oh and Bats! A grouping of Bats can eat millions of insects. But the bats have been steadily dying of white nose fungus.
    It goes on and on. The more nature is out of balance...the greater the # of plagues of carrion insects and disease.

    Been a funny year for weather, had strawberry plants in pots for years n they normally flower once a year in june n they did,but they just recently started to flower again for the 1st time ever n now the suns off the yard its too late for them to finish, in africa n the tropics, the skies are full of flies constantly, imo.

    I could be wrong, but it looks and sounds to me like an extreme case of ’field flies’ coming into hibernate in the houses over winter. I’ve seen it before and experienced it in my last house in Wales but not to this extreme! if that is what it is, they are not like the usual houseflies are a bit smaller and appear in forms of thousands. I had to vacuum clean them off the curtains and windowsills where they ascended in piles before trying to make their way into the attic where they would overwinter before flying out again in the spring. Not seen them on this scale before though😲🫣
