- Kokanee fishing in the winter can be either super hard or super easy depending on how the fish wanna play that day! Kokanee in the winter are in the top 10 feet of the water column usually. When targeting these winter kokanee, it's important to troll and cover water. Kokanee fishing in either washington or oregon is going to be where were fishing most of the time. Kokanee fishing around other parts of the US and world is probably just as effective. The only place I've ever caught Kokanee was in northern Idaho. I so agree with something you said here. Size limits should be done away with. Regardless of size, if you have a badly hooked fish, keep it.

What lake is this? I heard there’s good Kokanee in Lake Merwin in Washington. It kinda looks like that’s where you’re at but I can’t quite tell!

let me ask, I heard Kokanee once hooked will die if you release them whether deep or not . did I hear about releasing that one 10 Inch Kokanee that was hooked in the eye??? . so can you release them or not with them dying???
Any kokanee caught on bait is counted against your limit. So every now and then if it's a super small one that isn't hooked fatally, we try to give it a chance to grow but it still counts in case it dies. The one hooked in the eye was kept as it wouldn't be have good odds of survival.
