I would've also put Bride in Romantasy. Doesn't make sense in Romance. And yes, it's more paranormal than high fantasy, but paranormal is still a subgenre in fantasy
I looked up the eligibility rules, and Everyone on this Train is a Suspect was published about a month before the window for this year's goodreads choice awards, sadly.
I agree bride by Ally Hazelwood belongs in the romantasy category, and I also agree that Crimson moth should not be classified as young adult, it reads way too mature for young adult.
I’m thinking maybe some of the books may not have been on there because we have books come out at different times than uk times and so maybe some books have come out already in the uk but may have just come out for us here in the USA. I’m not sure but that could be a reason too! I do agree if you get rid of the middle grade category they should add a new adult and I think they should have way more categories than they do, it’s their own website they could add more award categories!
I ordered that edition of Best hex ever because of your review, still waiting on it to come. I would really like to know the thought process that goes in making some of the book choices. I think they need to bring back the middle grade and add a graphic novel one.
I agree with the ya and new adult, their is a fine line their. I think I will be creating a challenge for next year and read the books I own that were on the 2024 goodreads choice awards.
I took screen shots of all the nominees so I can read some. I know that people what for the final round but I am weird I guess. I want to read The Return of the Ellie Black soon and i have the BOTM edition so by the time I finish it and the book hasn’t come to the UK do you want my copy? The only thing I questioned is Murder Road being in the horror section cause I would think it was more Mystery/Thriller but I’m glad it was on the list some where
I work in a bookshop and we'd have no specific section for new adult, they would either end up shelved in ya or general fiction/fantasy depending on the book. I'd say a lot of them are being marketed at the audiences they think will buy them for the most part, and so are being shelved in those same sections in shops 📚
I have said that i think a group of Content Creators need to get together for 2025 and make their own award ceremony. There could be new categories, a much clearer way of determining what is popular etc. From what I have seen people often disagree with the nominations from Goodreads and I think something more inclusive and transparent needs to exist for the future. Even if it was just a low key thing it could be a great oppurtunity to uplift authors and books that are being overlooked by Goodreads.
The return of Ellie black is available in the UK, it’s just that it is called The Next Girl. No idea why on earth they decide to change the title of the book!
Maybe you need to get together with some of your booktube friends who feel the same about books not being on the list and create your own awards show. You might even get big and people will come to your videos faster than they would be going to goodreads for that kind of information. Maybe add a middle grade category, too.
Yeah someone let me know this yesterday and I was shooketh. Also gutted cause I would have gotten to it by now had I know 🙈😂 it's gone straight on my wishlist now I know ha x
So the other books you are talking about being surprised not being in Romantasy are categorized as YA fantasy. Not Romantasy For Goodreads. The Games God Play was bigger in the US and was talked about more on TikTok and is published by RedTower so same place as Fourth Wing so people pay attention to them. New adult is not acknowledged by bookstores in America. There are not sections in bookstores to shop It’s only YA. And the. Adult sections and a children’s sections
40:50 "the fact that the world has gone to shit, that doesn't help" - YOU SAID IT!! 🤣💯😥
34:00 ooh that would be cool if Whoopi Goldberg narrates that book. Really enjoyable video!😍
i think bride is more of a paranormal romance than a romantasy so for me it makes sense that its in the romance category.
I'm still so mad at the lack of graphic novel category.
The Will of the Many was nominated in the fantasy category last year!
I would've also put Bride in Romantasy. Doesn't make sense in Romance. And yes, it's more paranormal than high fantasy, but paranormal is still a subgenre in fantasy

I actually have never heard of Rewitched or Best Hex Ever but I love witchy books so they are definitely on my radar now.

Loved the video 🎉

Canadian here and I’ve never heard of Rewitched 👀

Games gods play is very popular in the US

Ah bless you thank you so much for the offer. It turns out that it is out in the UK just under a different name which is so bizarre 🙈 but thank you 🥰
@ your welcome anytime! I’m always happy to help

Omg you're kidding? Cause you can pre-order the return of Ellie black on amazon but it doesn't come out till May. That's so bizarre 🙈

I haven’t read so many of the books 😭
I think The Return of Ellie Black has a totally different title here. It's called The New Girl or something really generic like that?
Yeah someone let me know this yesterday and I was shooketh. Also gutted cause I would have gotten to it by now had I know 🙈😂 it's gone straight on my wishlist now I know ha x
Check and mate came out last year
I also thought Lynn Painter was Adult.. Might be New Adult then? I also don't get it.😅
Check & Mate was on the YA list in 2023 (Edit: oh you realized that later on lol)
Yeah I'd also say Bride is Romantasy. Romantasy shouldn't be just Fae romances!

American Scary is accurate for me! 😅 🫣😳 Okay, this book does sound fun to read!
