Hi Gracey, thank you for this detailed tutorial. Please when you cut the hem of the lining for the skirt, why did you go up by 1.5 inches? If I'm correct, that shortened the lining further.
Well done, Grace stitches and thank you for such a detailed video. Please, what happens when the skirt you're making has no back zip? That is the zip is on the sides, front or say elastic waistband. How then does the butt err...allowance happen?
Thank you. As long as you're making a fitted skirt, irrespective of where the zipper is, you can use this method. If your're making an A-line skirt, you can ignore the underbum contouring, every other thing remains the same (ensure to slash & spread as appropriate). If you're making a skirt with elastic waistband, make your waist measurement the same as your hips. i hope trhis helps
@ If the fabric is really stretchy, you do not have to draw a pattern like this. Just cut the front and the back with same dimension. The skirt will take the shape of the body. Ensure to DEDUCT some inches from your actual measurements
Thank you so this video,it was very helpful... what if i want to add a band? If i deduct the band length from the skirt length, will any alteration be made on the band
Yes, after joining the sides, lay it on a fabric, trace out the top. that'll be the base of your base. then add the height you desire. Remember to add joining allowances on the band before cutting it out
Please I want to know cos I saw you measure out 2” first and then again 1.5” all on the lining, I want to know if it will affect the actual length of the skirt
The actual length of this skirt is 29" The heming allowance is 2" Therefore, the length of the lining should be 1.5" less than the actual length of the skirt. i.e 29" - 1.5" = 27.5" No, using this methos will not reduce the actual length of the skirt
I made a skirt following your pattern and it came out beautifully. If I wanted to use this pattern to make a skirt with an open back slit instead of a vent, what would I have to change on the pattern to achieve this same fit please?
Yes, it will affect the length & width of the waistline. It was an error on my part and that's why pattern drafting is the best. Errors can be noted and corrected before cutting on the fabric. However, I put on a note on the screen at 5:19 It reads "cut 0.5" above the depressed waistline" Anyone who does that would get a perfect waistline as the 0.5" will serve as the seam/joining allowance. Cheers!

What about if the fabric is stretched and we use elastic waist band?@@GraceyStitches

@@GraceyStitches what about the waist measurement for strech fabric and elastic waistband?
@ okay
Let’s assume your waist is 27”
Your elastic band can be about 23/24 inches
Will this method work for making a gown too?
Yes, definitely
I would love to see your 6 panel skirt tutorial.
Coming soon!
Well explained

Nice video can this skirt pattern be directly joined with a bodice
💯%
Please can you make a fitted gown with this method?
100%
Wow thanks boss
Thank you ma, but am confused at the back cutting please
Hi. Kindly watch it again. I'm sure you'd get it. You can also watch this for more clarity. th-cam.com/video/higP8B9YR1o/w-d-xo.html
Pls ma can I make it dartless with this pattern
No, you'll have hanging(excess) fabric all around. It won't fit well. The only way it would work is if you're using a stretchy/ribbed/ knit fabric
I made a skirt following your pattern and it came out beautifully. If I wanted to use this pattern to make a skirt with an open back slit instead of a vent, what would I have to change on the pattern to achieve this same fit please?
Nothing! The skirt has an open back slit as well

I noticed there was no hemming allowance on the waist line. Doesn't that affect the waist i.e like make it lower
