You can protect the citadel on your own ship by proper armor angling. Do not show your broadside to an enemy. When you angle your armor is effectively thickened. Do not show your broadside to get all your guns to bear. Wait for the enemy to shoot, THEN change your angle to bring your aft guns into play. After you shoot, increase your angle again.
Also keep in mind certain ships have weak bow armor and can be citadel shot from front on best angle is usually 12-25 degrees
@@ivanarnold3272 any way to tell qhich ships these are? Or simple trial and error?
@@briancritchley7962 mostly trial and error although in the description of a ship if it says it has an all or nothing armor scheme I.e. dreadnaught style ships like the New York or the iron Duke, or have an internal armor belt like the Iowa they have crap bow and stern armor
@@briancritchley7962 if you can get access to the PC version you can look at the external and internal armor thickness angle and layout of every ship in the game, a feature the should have been released with the console version
But what if your running into land
Ah, the mythical citadel. Legends says if you can consistently roll yatzy you can consistently hit citadels from more then 2 km away
knowing where the citadel is 25%
knowing where to aim when you shoot is another 25%
praying to whatever god or any other higher being you believe to make sure RNG didnt mess up your shell dispersion and hitting the citadel: 50%
It feels like know where the citadel is: 10%
Where to aim: 10%
RNG: 150,000%
@@zombied3stroy3r9gaming4
I second that, escally on the older battleships. Sometimes it feels most like I'm trying snip someone with a sawed-shotgun from 500 yards so every battle ends up eventually going Pirates of the Caribbean with everyone having at each other at point blank range (and still missing the goddamn citadel most of the time).
@@177SCmaro I was going a match in the Bismarck last night. 3km away... 2 full pen hits, 6 misses because everything else just plopped into the water
@@zombied3stroy3r9gaming4
In fairness, Bismarck wasn't the most accurate ship to ever fire a broadside but I get what you mean. I realize real warships where not all that accurate at range but I sometimes think the game might almost be exaggerating this at the rages most gun duels take place in the game.
@@177SCmaro Thing is, Bismarck was built for brawling in close quarters. And to have a 25% hit rate from 3km away on a broadside BB, that's just kinda wack. At that point, my secondary batteries are lighting fires and chipping away at the other ship's HP.
But yeah, it's hard to have a sniper ship past maybe 11km without a maxed out commander and top modules in late tier ships. And I don't have any of the special commanders either except for Scharnhorst, which I got from a crate at some point so pair and Cunningham, your ship can get a better hit rate, maybe
Although I knew this mechanic, I absolutely loved the way you presented this information. Keep up the videos, because there is definitely a growing community on Xbox.
That's why I'm here Haha
I always for years thought the citadel on a ship was the super structure idk why I thought that I guess because that would be where the captain is so this was helpful for me.
Glad to have helped
same lol
I thought it was the bridge where people was housed
It probably didn't help if you were getting plunging citadels through the deck when you were taking shots either. I thought that too, until I watched a video called "why am I always getting one shot in the Omaha."
Hello! One little but important detail you forgot is the Engine room. It counts as a citadel, and actually takes a good part of the ship.
An AP shell that penetrates the engine room will also count as a citadel hit, on top of actually having a chance to incapacitate the engine itself, immobilizing the ship until repairs.
Nice video, and nice tips.
Nice thanks for the info!
4 years ago, thats crazy, how far Legends as come and how far you have come, I remeber watching this 3 years ago when I had like 10 ships, now I have 152, thankyou for the great journey Spartan👍
It's been a crazy ride!
Nice, clear explanation. Thank you.
Minor detail. You don’t “siege” a castle, you besiege it.
Thank you so much for your many excellent videos on You Tube. I have learned a tremendous amount about how to become a much better captain in the battles thanks to your many tips. I have watched dozens of your videos regarding ships and techniques and always check out your videos because I know that you provide the best information and have used the ships in battle. I especially appreciate your advice re the New Mexico. It is my go to ship and I have been very successful at Tier 5. I am 72 so I do not have the reflexes for Tier 7 ships, but I can be competitive with this ship and have had lots of fun. Thanks again. Tony
Glad you enjoy and that I could help you a bit! Wish you the best!
I'm terrible at pvp on warships, I'm too aggressive and my aim always seems to skim the enemies. I'm bad ☹ but I hope to get better fellow captains 🤗
Just takes time. Stick to lower tiers while you learn because mistakes are much more forgiving
@@SpartanElite43 Thanks for the advice bud. 👍
I was just like that before I started learning the citadel locations on each ship, I just got 10 citadels on the same ship it was a mutual kill because I was in a destroyer vs heavy cruiser.
The citadel is the entire space from the forward most main turret to the rear most main turret, not just below the stacks and turrets only, this is done to somewhat represent the main engineering spaces below deck, i.e. boilers, steam turbines, screw shafts, powder may and hoists shell mags.
Thanks for this. I was surprised when doing the set ships on fire trials how many citadel hits I got from far away with HE. Now I know why, I was mostly aiming at midship stacks and towers. Good explanation. Many thanks.
loving the ending.
Quiet: Don't Shoot
What about Ramming?
Oh lord, arming the masses with citadel knowledge!
They don't have armor viewer on consoles yet, So, actually the Citadel stretches the length of the ship from the 2nd forward turrent to the 1st back turrent.
Could not have timed watching this video better! You just mentioned shoot under the guns at the water level as I was shooting an Ishizuchi and got 4 citadels on him wrecking his hitpoints!
Its saying the video is 3 years old! Alot of people need to watch this over and over again lol
good video my guy, I just got into this game and this helps me a lot, I was aiming higher than the water line.
Glad I could help! Welcome to the game and to the channel hope you enjoy for a long time
I had a game the other day and got 5 citadel hits in one match! It was the things dreams are made of!
Cheers, all good info. I need plenty. As I understand it a Citadel was the place to starve to death as the enemy waited you out, lol. Torpedoes are scary buggers in this game, so easy to focus on an enemy and not see the bloody things. Peas love and tight edits, Johnno Bloke.
Great video! Please make more like this one explaining different mechanics of the game! Have a great day!
I thought the citadel was in the superstructure the entire time ive been playing this game. thank you for this highly valuable information in shall now proceed to delete all ships that are smaller than me
Wow you have come so far in a year, great vid very helpful
Thank you Spartan. You're the reason why I got back on this game but it's better to have a team than randoms
Welcome Back!
Haha, the part at the end. Sadly I don't think I've ever randomly got into a match with Spartan on tanks so I doubt it'll happen on ships.
My main problem is overpenetrations on cruisers. I've seen people claiming to aim just below the waterline to avert this, and I know it works on PC, but as far as I can tell, in Legends any shells that hit the water pretty much cease to exist. I've landed a shell from a Mutsu in the water maybe five feet from the ship I was firing at (it was so close that the only reason I knew it hit the water was because of a splash instead of an impact), and failed to do any damage or get a hit ribbon of any type. WG NEEDS to give us the training room so we can test these sorts of things beyond any doubt.
not just side broadsides, you can also citadel a ship from far and the back side least with a 406 mm, guess i citadels it cuz shell went up high and landed so hard down and went through all the Armor, all a saw is a big chunk of his HP marker went down, once you get the hang of it, and study the different ship armor you will know where to hit, to get a good chunk of there HP, but its not necessarily just the waterline.
Yeah it is called plunging fire and doesn't need to be 406mm Ive done it with Cruisers just gotta be at max range with AP loaded
good way to find where the citadel is on most ships go over to the computer version of the game it has a Armor viewer that lets you see exactly where the Cit is in a ship. Some are below the waterline and some are above (japan, Russian, friench cruisers are notorious for this) and some are not exactly between the gun turrets (most Cit's run the length between the guns) but most are
Awesome video! I literally just downloaded this game today so this was very useful!
Good job. I'm sending this to some new players that are friends.
Awesome thank you and I am glad it helped or is helping.
Thanks for the clip. Great info.
Thanks man. I played tons of world of tanks. I know plenty. Ships is a different ball game. Wasnt sure where critical/module spots were.
Fantastic video. I unleashed my first Kraken last night, and I give this video a great amount of credit.
Thank you Spartan for recommending this, but I've already seen this. As already said l think a video on all Commanders you use for different countries. Thank you Aussie Scott.
I have a video for each country in the guides playlist.
Where I go over each commander and what they are best at
Ypu helped me a lot. I thought it was all along the waterline... the full ship. Now I know I miss it sometimes. AND I WONT MISS ANYMORE! 400K damage here I go!
400k in Legends? Lol.
I can't even get 150k.
@@TallulahSoie i think that 200k is a good mark! 150k is ezyy
I know that it's IMPOSSIBLE to hit citadels but this really helped out thanks
I'm loving the game so far I've got 2 tier 4s and they are both awesome
Personally
My Aoba does great against cruisers and how new the players are
Great video Spartan I appreciate your content..
I appreciate that!
First time watching any WoWS L footage. I've played PC and blitz and it hasn't sucked me in like tanks so interested to see how it is on console. Nice video
Japanese destroyers, Chopper...Japanese destroyers...lots of torpedoes, lots of fun...all I'm sayin...😁
Thanks for the info, is this still true even today? As I know WOWL changed stuff a lot. And is it easier to get that hit with a BB on a smaller ship like cruisers?
Yes it is still true but different ship have slight differences in armor layout.
As for a general idea of what you should be looking for it is great
@@SpartanElite43 You are so right this is great I got 3 Citadel on one ship I was amming under said ships turrets. Did it with the Mutsu was great. These videos have helped me up my game, I can now doing Standard Mode put up 80K damage and I am just been playing for maybe a month this week, I am not first of the map most times, unless I get ganged up on.
@@animegamesmoviesandotherst3037 awesome congrats and keep grinding! Hope you enjoy!
Mission impossible:
CITIDEL the bismark
Haha not impossible at all just need to be at around 13km or further
Spartan Elite43 I mean like the turtle back or something like that
Previously played on pc and just downloaded the ps4 version. Have been to much fun people really do not have the hang of this games mechanics yet😂😂
Yeah most haven't played PC so it is fresh and fun
Se agradecen los subtítulos en español. Buen trabajo y gran jugador! Saludos desde España!
For this video, sure would have been nice to have the armor display on screen so you could turn armor on and off to show specifically where the citadel sits on the craft.
It didn't exist back then
@@SpartanElite43 Ya know, I realized it was possible after I hit the "Reply" button that it was a pretty old video and I might have put my foot in my mouth. I apologize to both of us! ;)
@@Naku-SomewhereYouAreNot haha 😄 it's all good
awesome teaching there mate
Man, you are amazing
I like citadel hitting Omahas with my destroyers.
The ship orion pf the British fleet is just annoying
30 0 sec reload time for a lot of dmg
But if you shoot citadel it is the best ship
Can't wait for the weekend
My friend sent me a video from xbox showing him one-shoting a Izmal with the T6 Japan Batleship. He fired a full payload on a broadside Izmale, 6 rounds lined up straight-up-and-down all citadels.
Thanks! Very helpful
This was really helpful. Thanks so much.
thanks for the instructions, was helpful
Fairly new to your channel just love your style
Welcome to The Spartan Army! Glad you enjoy what I do and hope you enjoy for a long time!
@@SpartanElite43 nice to be here 😎 thank you for the welcome
Holy shit, I have had this game since it came out, I have the Iowa, Bismarck, and Kagero and I’m just now learning this, I always thought a citadel hit meant hitting the superstructure where the commander is.... I’m soooo dummmmb....
Well this revelation should be a game changer for ya then!
Thanks man 👍
much appreciated spartan!
Hit the vitals, the citadel
Short answare: Hit below turrets where the ammo is.
Beautiful Ship! I have a tier 5 USS Texas, amazing ships
Thanks for your videos
Fear the Arctic ferret my friend....im sure I've seen you around in my British battleships....
Probably I've definitely been messed up by those battleships
KEEP PLAYING THIS GAME
many thanks spartan
Nice video. Thank you.
Can please tell me how hit on citadels using aircraft carrier
Only one carrier line can hit citadels and that is the Germans with AP bombs!
@@SpartanElite43 I’m using aircraft carrier German tho rare time I hit on citadels
What is the weak-points for the citadel for all types of ships ?
Hope to meet you in battle, may the best captain with the biggest guns win. That or with the most torpedoes... lol
NOOOO!! Don't tell them! ROFL
Citadel = Heavily armored or heavily fortified.... I go back and look 👀 at the Citadel Tiger I and at WG 👀
What do I do for German battleships? As in where to aim specifically and where to aim when using them since they are my favorite. I'm wanting to grind xp for the tirpitz and it seems this would help. Thx
Plunging fire from long range with big guns. German BBs have fairly light deck armour, but their thick side armour combined with a turtleback scheme means it's almost impossible to citadel them from close and medium range. The sole exceptions to this are (maybe) the Yamato and the Kurfurst with the 420s. Cruisers have no chance.
People also often go broadside because they’re clueless and have zero situational awareness. 🤣
Tbf, it works sometimes. It really depends on who you're up against, and how good your teammates are. Some people will remain broadside, never change speed or direction, and make for an easy target. Going broadside to a player like this is not very threatening, provided you change speeds and direction a bit to keep them missing. Also, if your teammates can be annoying enough to the bigger ships, they can keep the attn off you, making it safe to remain broadside.
Dozey bastard
It's generally not a huge issue. RNG seems to brutally and regularly punish skilled players, while being a guardian angel to clueless people. Just yesterday, I watched a Sinop sit side on to a KGV at about 5km. When the KGV fired its front two guns, maybe two shells hit, and by the damage they dealt, they were both overpens. It then fired its rear gun at me, 12km away, in my angled Scharnhorst as I was moving to help the Sinop. Two shells bounced off my armour, and two went into my front turrets, destroying one and disabling the other. smh
Keep in mind, the Sinop has such a vulnerable citadel from the side that a SCHARNHORST with its piddly 280s can land hits easily.
Devildog _ 627 Dallas broadsiding a Nagato who shoots AP within 5 km is guaranteed overpens. I’ve been on both sides of this scenario...just saying
Got a kraken the other day plus 100 thousand damage in tier 4 just because people showed me there sides lol
Donald Smith 100 thousand is nothing
@@urbi5598 expecting to get a lot more when I go up the tiers
I seeeeee
cheers
Took an aircraft out…and I just been’a paddlin ppl!
Would you say this guide is still accurate 3 years later?
Yep the basics are still the same
Should do some online gameplay mate, British ships all the way tho, also nice vid mate 🇬🇧
Definitely will! I already have a couple videos up so keep checking back for new ones as well! Thanks for watching! also Hello from Ohio!
Nice guide
Thanks
Good informative video dude and wondering if you play on the PS4 at all?
Unfortunately not I am just an Xbox Guy can't afford both consoles.
@@SpartanElite43 thats ok dude i know how that feels
Someone in the lobby chat said the new update (4.2 i believe) removed the citadel damage. If true that sucks.
they are lying.
Happy to give like #1000 ^^
Wow Awesome!!! Thanks for watching and tipping me off to this Awesome milestone for the channel!
It was an awesome video and so my pleasure :) :)
Watched this vid and the first shot I adjusted to what he said I got a cit 😂
Noice!
Thanks for the guide, pity your not able to hit them in game play and show a video of that, is there any gamers on TH-cam that make such videos, thanks
Me be like ohh the citadel of ricks
@SparatanElite43 what controller are you using to pin point those shots?
88.000 damage and 5 of 18 hits in the citadel lol
You're in alot of "f......" Pause trouble
༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ !
It is working for Xbox one,PC or PS4 ? Thanks guys and hello from Costa Rica.👍✌👌
Yep released on the 16th. For Xbox check Game Preview.
Murica! ❤❤❤
You should redo this Spartan... I think you should do a follow-up
Does this still apply now in 2024? Nothing has changed? Thanks.
Yes as a general rule nothing has changed
@@SpartanElite43 cool great video too.
Wish they would just add in an armour layout view to the port
Do torpedo tubes have citadels like the main guns?
Not that I am aware of. As torpedoes would be loaded topside I believe.
@@SpartanElite43 yup that makes sense, didn't even think of that lol thanks and keep making great and informative videos
How come when i citadel a ship with my nagata using AP rounds,i usually do around 10000 damage yet i have been citadelled countless times by HE rounds that do 15000 plus damage from a single shell?
I play world of warship and this is the problem I'm having with one of the ships so what should I do
I thought the citadel was the part the officers went inside when the battle kicked
Just got into the game two days ago and I've been struggling to figure this out. Can you even hit citadel damage on Tier 2 cruisers? For example hitting Sampson
thanks
Yes but very rarely since tier 2 i think doesnt have AP just HE
Great game but when will they being tier 10 ships.
No timeline on that as far as I know yet. Not sure if they will any time soon. I imagine they will be adding other nations before the push to tier 10 if they decide to do that.
Can you citadel with a torpedo?
You dont get a marker, but torps have a chance of detonating the magazine when they hit citadel
