- DIY trike build. Chassis construction.
Build has actually started now. Still waiting on a few bits from the interweb, but I have enough to be getting on with.
Trying to make this build as simple as possible, with that in mind I've built in 15 degrees of positive caster by tipping the front cross member backwards. This should also gain me a fractional aerodynamic advantage as I no longer have a completely flat surface facing the wind. You know what they say........dirty pants clean bum.
Next episode I make an attempt at the steering.
so far all tools found in any average home....Old School Kool, gotta luv it!
That was exactly my aim. Try to prove anyone with a average ability and ordinary tools can put something together. Thanks for watching.

Hey friend i just subd because I'm a sucker for guy's like me that get a hairbrain idea and either it works or I get injured! This is cool and going to find part 2. So check it out.... Some years ago I built a recumbent trike with one wheel in the front for my grandson. So I used a mountain bike that belonged to his grandma who had passed away ( she was my gal) which made the project a little more special! So if you turn a bicycle upside down it pedals backwards which is perfect for going forwards in a basackwards build! I used two matching kids bikes for the back wheels and steering with a tiller like controll (hard to explain but it it worked. For the frame I bought this steel from Lowe's that's used in electrical construction (don't know what it's called but it worked!) since then he's grown out of it. Goin to reboot the project in my size... Lol!

Nice work! Are those plates aluminum or steel?
Plates are aluminium. Had to upgrade the pedal box the thicker stuff as I was getting some twist under load. Rear suspension is shear force (no twist) and seems to be holding up well.
Where did you get the diamond Al plate for the front reinforcement bracket and did it come bent already (beyond what you bent slightly in the video)?
@@leesuccaw666 my last company i worked at were throwing out an aluminium staircase, so all the diamond plate is cut from the treads and already bent. I have bought some flat aluminium plate to change the front end slightly (in a later video) thanks for watching.

I would love to see you both side by side at a party just to see how many would mistake you two for brothers. Until one opened his mouth and spoke with a British accent and the other with a rich accent from Tennessee.
