    That is NOT a Grumman wildcat , that is in fact a Douglas SBD Dauntless dive bomber.

      Wildcat and Dauntless are noticeably different in many aspects.

      @@rescue270the three big visual cues are: 1) the landing gear; 2) the perforated dive flaps that only the SBD had; and 3) the provision for a tail gunner. The Wildcat had the fuselage mounted landing gear just aft of the engine; it was a carryover from the F2F and F3F biplane fighters which preceded the Wildcat; in fact, the F4F Wildcat started life as a biplane fighter until it was redesigned as a monoplane aircraft.

      I regret the P 40 sounds a bit thin here. P 51 sounds worse. Merlin? Packard copy? Overrated?
