As far as that " Swoop " at the beginning and end of the cut. I have evolved into cutting the log 6" or 12" longer and just trim the ends afterwards. The " Swoop " is hard to avoid for some reason.
Love that chickens timing LOLOL. The Alaskan chainsaw mill is awesome. I saw your video on redoing Martin Johnson's fathers hammer it was gorgeous and a lot of work. Beautiful JOB and God's blessing to you and your wood projects.
A chainsaw mill is on my tool list to acquire. I've seen a number of videos where shims are stuck in right behind the saw before it exits the log cut, reduces the wain at the end of the cut.
If you use a full chisel chain it makes a smooth enough cut and it's faster. I use my 660 with a full chisel cross cut chain and it looks the same as my bandmill, the semi chisel chains make a washboard look I have found
Looks like a good investment. I have been thinking of investing in one. Please keep us posted on your journey with it. Lumber prices are just stupid here considering I live within 300 km of a lumber mill. Spoke with one company and they are probably not going to cut logs this year. And there goes the price upwards again. Stay safe and healthy. 👍🍻
I think it's the perfect size for most farm work. I have about six other Stihl saws (0 series) but thay all need to be worked on. Neighbor gave them to me because he was decluttering.
@@MakersMovementDIY Nice, I have another Stihl MS261C with a 20 inch bar but would like to get something with a 30 inch bar for around the property, just need to trade around a little to get it. )
@@MakersMovementDIY I haven't seen the HF sawmill in person but I know Stewart from Breaking Free Off Grid just bought a sawmill thats made by Norwood but its their less expensive line up. Can't remember the name of it but it's almost the same mill I have for a fraction of the price I paid. :)
@@KoalityofLife I think laid back living got the HF model recently. I'll give them both some time to see what they think and use that to influence my decision.
I loved my mill and got a lot of great lumber out of it. It is tough on chains though but I would get mine sharpened for just a few bucks. The cost was worth it.
Always nice to unbox something new. Your going to have lots of fun with that.🙏
I sure hope so. 😊
Love that the dog is doing some cleanup for you at 13:59. This was a very helpful video. thanks.
They are awesome,
Very awesome! We bought an Alaskan mill for chainsaws, but have not used it yet. Money in your pocket! Woohoo
For sure, and it let's us use the dead trees. We don't have a wood stove so it all just rots on the ground.

Right down the road from you - Blanchard. Just (finally) decided to get the G777 this winter. Joe S
You know I will be here Mr. Dave. Suggestion to prevent the swoop at the end keep the logs longer until you mill them then trim to length Sir .
Good tip Heath. 👌

Thank you.
Great video. As usual the chicken has to put in their two cents🤣
The rooster battles back and forth with the neighbors rooster, it is 24-7
too cool
Thanks man

I used shims on the length of the cut but I didn't think about doing it just at the end. Good idea, thanks.
cool beans
have the same setup, just got the Harbor freight sharpener today!! Great video! TY
I have that and I love it. I also hook up my neighbors, it never hurts to be useful. Haha.

Good tip, I'll try it out. But now I have a bandsaw mill also so this will only be used for field work or logs that won't fit on the mill.
Great video! I have one of these in the box for extra big trees nice to see it in action. Life will never be the same! Lol
Nice, this is one of the smaller ones but they all work about the same.

Yea there are a few mills around here also but the lumber prices have tripled on most things.
Cool video Dave! That doesn't look like one of your knives you used to open the box....
Naw, it's a CRKT that I found on a stalk lane in sniper school. Many moons ago. 🌙
Why didn’t you use ATV to haul the logs in? You’re gonna mess your back up Dave!
Enjoyed watching as always😎👍
Ground is soft right now, didn't want to rut up the yard dragging logs. In the future I can mill them where they fall.
How do you like the MS310? I just traded for an older one with a 24 inch bar. Haven't had a chance to use it yet. :)

@@KoalityofLife I'm sure it's out there waiting for you to find it.
You grind that hard or long the teeth go blue and blunt in mins
Pretty soon you will have a sawmill scrap pile the size of mine. lol :)
The scraps go on the campfire pile
Still seriously considering getting a harbor freight bandsaw mill also.

@@MakersMovementDIY Nice. I havent heard what they think of their mill. :)
Great video. Im curious to know if you will get much warping or cupping? With the price of lumber who really cares though.
The 1/2 " boards that I cut cupped but the would just be siding for an outdoor structure anyway.
@@MakersMovementDIY Cupping or not it is awesome to make your own lumber. It will be exciting to see what you do with it.
Yea, I'm pretty stoked to be able to put some of these dead trees to good use. 👍
OOPS ... MY BAD ... HE SELLING THE LITTLE MILL WHAT A BEAUTY ...
I was thinking, yes I can do this, then he starts grinding the chain...

Ummm. That's a rooster not a chicken. Just sayin. :)
