More Mesa Beach and the Old Cave Spot (Santa Barbara)

  • I decided to do a quick run around More Mesa Beach and the Bluffs near Santa Barbara and Goleta this morning. It was really nice to see the ocean and the sunrise through the marine layer. I really enjoyed the views this morning. It was the perfect combination of marine layer and clear sky. I also went to visit the old More Mesa cave site. The caves have Leroy eroded, but were pretty deep about a decade ago (I forget when they collapsed). I may scour TH-cam and the internet for videos of the caves and add them to the description. They were very neat. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any old pictures (I'm not sure if I ever took any).
Also, I should have mentioned this in the video, but the beach is unofficially a clothing optional beach. I think it's illegal, but not really enforced very often. If you choose to come here, you may see people who are completely undressed. I didn't see anyone and I haven't seen anyone like that here in a little while, but there are times where I've seen ~30-40 people on the beach not wearing anything, so just keep that in mind.
Here are some links with images of the caves before they collapsed:

This is going below all videos in my long form content:
FYI: I explore a lot and stumble upon many different things. The way I go about sharing locations is that if someone tells me to keep a spot secret before I wind up finding it on my own, I keep those spots secret. Otherwise, I share information at my own discretion because I like sharing what I find. I may take things down, obscure locations, or remove data upon request as I have done in the past, but a lot of the places I visit are less well known (because I'm exploring), so I could potentially be removing everything if I did things the other way around, which I don't want to do.
If there is a spot you'd like me to keep secret (if I find it), let me know BEFORE. I change my mind about what I keep secret on my own, but if we talk, I am much less likely to jeopardize my integrity than change my mind. There are a few secrets I don't share with people because I agree to keep these spots on the down low (even when I have heard about them through different parties before visiting). If I find a spot on my own on publicly accessible land and I decided to share it despite you not wanting me to, THAT'S ON YOU. These areas are for everyone to enjoy, explore, and share with the world. Feel free to reach out. I am a reasonable person.

Thanks for the mini tour! I will check it out later this month. Have you ever seen folks fishing from the shoreline? 😊

I think I have but not too often. I know that there are some nice spots along the Gaviota Coast that I sometimes see people at or between Ellwood and Haskells. I've seen people spear fishing there too.

Have you heard about the vents in the cliff side at More Mesa? ….. Rumors of a volcano.

I've heard of the hope ranch volcano. I was actually there maybe a month or two ago. It was smoking quite a bit. I've heard it gets hot from the sulfide minerals oxidizing, which releases a lot of heat. I've never seen one at More Mesa. The vent I'm talking about is between Hendry's beach and More Mesa. It's pretty wild!

@@nature_exploring, thank you for replying. My bad, I was confusing the two areas. Glad you’ve heard of the actual one.

@@jfranklin9549 yeah it's a neat spot! the first time I went by it when it flared up a few years ago it was hard to breath when I got close, recently it's been more mild, but it was still smoking a bunch
