Luke/Susie man I appreciate all the review content yaw do. Look forward to seeing your videos every upload. Just wanted to say thanks have a blessed day
I had an older set a couple of years ago and yes not having pockets in the pants was kind of a pain sometimes. Nowadays I'm not as concerned about weight so I've moved to the Tru-Spec line, very durable and breathable. I like the product and great warranty as well.
I have Zpacks Vertice rain pants. I never used them. While their breathability and weight and hydro stat head are insane... I'm thinking of selling them. They lack the leg zips which to me is a major feature. Not having to take off your shoes in the wet is a huge benefit. As is being able to raise the zips to get air flow upstairs to your sweaty legs and nads 👌
Love your reviews! Because of your review, I purchased the helium jacket. I think I'll get the pants now. Thanks again for giving us more information on products so that we can make better decisions. I'm super thankful for your channel. Strength and honor! Thanks again!
I'll stick to my british army overpants in goretex, just 270gr. They sell them cheap in new condition once the pattern is out of regulations, like when they dumped the DPM ones. The new british army ones are even better with a long zipper down each side.
One of the most important feature you didn't mention, they also come in length, so if you have short legs, can get an appropriate length and you're not dragging the hem.....
$119 USD is robbery! I have the frogg toggs Bull frog pants and it's just as good and better than OR with pockets for $34.99- $39.99 for us big & tall people.
I am a firm believer in 'you get what you pay for'. That being said, $120 for a pair of rain pants in my mind is insane! I could maybe see if it was a set of pants and the top, but just pants! Holy crap thats expensive! Thank you for your honest review Luke.
Lifetime warranty is worth the price alone as far as im concerned I dont own this product but I could see picking up a set of their rain gear thanx for the review on them
I purchased the previous version a few years ago and they are still performing like new. You just have to keep in mind that these are light weight packable pants. The pants are designed to keep you dry and pack up small. They are not designed for you to run through thorns and rub against rocks.
Hey Luke! Looks like you're having nice weather in NC! The pants look great, and I agree about they should have side pockets to allow you access to your inside pockets. Or at least put pockets in the pants themselves to go with the one in the back.
I had a pair of Adidas elastic waist and cuff pants (no stripes) no lining wind pants and they were so good they ripped after year and a half. Wish I could find again. Ultra lightweight and comfortable.
I suggest the previews line. Cheaper, and works just as well for it's primary task. One thing I've not seen any one mentioned, they dry exceptionally fast. They're dry as soon as I get in the front door. It's insane.
Some people will complain about the price, but the price seems reasonable. KUIU makes rain pants that range from $199 - $450. So does Sitka, Arc’teryx, etc. These OR pants are on the lower end of the price range when it comes options considered to be high quality, light, and as breathable as possible. Sure, you could buy a pair of military surplus pants, but the fit/cut is terrible in my experience, and they are too heavy for longer backpacking trips. Great review, Luke.
So far... no rain gear has beat my old military acu rain gear. It could be a bit lighter but a vacum seal press bag will solve the variability issue. Great review as always my friend!
I'm in two minds about accessing my pockets through overtrousers,.... sometimes it could be handy, but zips can snag and fail, and the least moving parts the better I think. I have some more basic over trousers, and if it's raining that hard, I just knuckle down, and try to get where I'm going, there's probably no need to try and access my pockets until I get back to the car and need my keys, etc, so that one bit of incovenience is worth having no chance of water ingress.
Great review on both the 2020 Helium pant and jacket. I normally don’t bring rain pants however For shoulder seasons, early spring & late fall, it makes sense to have a light weight, minimalist pant to protect you from getting too wet & cold which can lead to hypothermia. I just bought both of these items, on sale $25% off, and combined they weigh less than the Patagonia hard shell with pit zips & pockets I normally carry. For the light weight, protection, and quality, this 2020 Helium rain gear has a place in my pack!
Ive owned 3 OR Helium jackets. I love the jacket BUT i have had to return 1 for a faulty zipper and now have to return my replaced jacket because the shoulder seam came completely apart.
@@zimmerman8675309 Have a few ODR mid's and such . No rain gear . Son is a BIG ODR guy . Swears by them . Even after he has had to return some stuff and got replacement or a standing credit . How can you tell the 2020 version for previous versions? Is there something in the tag? The look? Anything would help. I have local stores that carry this product, but I want the best version. :)
Luke👍👍 Nice review brother. Honest opinions count, good or bad. As many here have said, the price seems unreasonably higher than most competing brands. Anyway thanks for the video. S&H
I want to see you do a camping in the desert, I know that's going to be a big long drive in order to get to the nearest Desert but if you ever are out that way man you should totally try camping in the desert or survival in the desert, I have experience with it and I would love to see your take on it, and the things that you come up with.
I have & wear the Paclite Gore-Tex rain pants that weighs 8.7oz which seem similar to the OR rain pants you've just reviewed. I especially like that mine are waterproof & are excellent windbreakers. I've read all the comments & am wondering if you have any thoughts/comments that compare OR to the Paclite Gore-Tex rain pants.
I must be in the minority as I hate just about the entire LW rain pant segment. Seems like a decent choice if you're okay getting the inside all muddy with your boots due to that lame 12 inch zip. I get it for UL backpackers, but for just about anyone else I'd go up to something a bit more robust.
$120 for a pair of pants? Check out rain kilts. Far easier to put on, doesn't gather sweat, much better range of motion, just as waterproof. It's also super lightweight. And like 35 bucks. Folds into it's own little pocket. And it doesn't bunch up your normal pants, you don't have to take off your shoes to put it on. Just wrap and velcro. You can also use it as a small tarp.
True...and those are okay for city use and keeping salaryman suits dry for the few minutes per day that he/she is not indoors, but having had more expensive (L-Breath branded) rain gear fail me on Mount Fuji 🗻, I definitely do not recommend using cheap, made-in-China, convenience store rain gear for long term outdoor use in harsh conditions. It's better to buy (more expensive, but high quality gear) once and cry once😢💸, than to keep buying cheap gear that soon fails.
The leg zips need to be AT LEAST knee length, better to have them go all the way up to the hip to allow you to put them on without removing your boots.
I have an ultralight 4 season tent called Force 10 Helium. Again...the reference is to Helium being lighter than many other gasses hence its ability to float ballons etc.
$120 price and they were too cheap to add zippers to allow access your pants pockets?? How about...No??? 🤦🏼🙅🏼♂️👎🏻 But thanks for the review/heads up, bro! At least I can eliminate this from the list of candidates for affordable rain gear...

I use the British Army Lightweight Goretex-Trousers. Its made from Goretex-Paclite. Very leightweigh and extrem waterproof.
When you want to go ultralight and not worry about your rain gear OR Helium jacket and pants is the way to go. My picks as well.
I had an older set a couple of years ago and yes not having pockets in the pants was kind of a pain sometimes. Nowadays I'm not as concerned about weight so I've moved to the Tru-Spec line, very durable and breathable. I like the product and great warranty as well.

Maybe a tailor can add zips and you can seam tape or seam seal the stitching if you wanted. Zippers might leak still, but probably not a big deal.

Still love my Frogg Toggs rain pants....not very heavy duty but cheap and light.
Always happy when we get a fresh video from TOGR
Not bad, I don't generally wear rain pants when I'm out but I guess I'm not really in rain enough to need them. I'm happy ad long as my core is dry.

That's a good price on those! I wonder how well they'd hold up to snags from briars and such.

How about getting them off over mid boots? Do the zips give enough opening?
