First!!!!! Hopefully you guys find this interesting! I left out the majority of the images and text out of the video as i’d like them to be first experienced in print, and I have to say that now (after the time of filming) I have the completed piece in print, it’s really great and I can’t wait for you to enjoy it! Also, before anyone wants to complain about a sponsored video - Please consider how much this helps out making more content for you to enjoy, making good videos is highly time consuming and this just helps it all to be a bit more feasible! Thanks to everyone for the support over the last month, it’s been crazy.
I find this concept very interesting. I love that you took something relatively commonplace (the posters), but took it to a whole new level and made a narrative with it. Also a bit strange that so many people's cats went missing in this area.. Great work
No problem with being a sponsored vid. Some of the podcasts etc that I enjoy are supported by services like Squarespace. If it means things keep going, so be it!
NegativeFeedback I loved the breakdown of how it went from idea to physical object. I loved the concept as well and as far as the way you designed it, it's perfect. you being a photographer and understanding composition, hierarchy, and contrast lends a huge hand to design so I wouldn't worry too much about "not being a designer". I'm a designer and to me those skills are fully interchangable as long as you know how to use the tools. great job! hopefully they are still in stock when I place my order tomorrow
Great video as always and really interesting zine! Can I ask you where you had it printed? I'm from Germany and looking for a good place to print a couple of zines right now. Best regards and keep up the good work!
You know, amidst the recent influx of photo editing apps, offering the same cookie-cutter preset filters, it's so refreshing to listen to the stories behind the choice of camera, film and color scheme. We seem to forget that photographs shouldn't just look good, they should tell a story.
Great job. I've always struggled with the idea of taking a "series" of photographs and these videos are making me want to go out and shoot with a theme in mind.
I dont know why anyone would dislike this video, we are witnessing a era of change in this field. so i like this alot. sharing what you are doing. pretty cool
I just binge watched your videos for the past week. Man, I have stayed up till 4 every night just looking online for old cameras. I've been shooting on a t3i commercially for a couple years now. I don't even want to touch it after seeing the quality film has. Your videos have excellent narrative and are extremely informative. You've got me hooked. Also this zine looks dope.
can you make a video about your camera collection? and maybe tell us, what to start with and what to look for in a camera. that would be so cool! love your videos! greetings from germany!
i really loved this process video! as a graphic designer who dabbles in amateur photography i havent quite figured out how to control images the way i do my design work so this was great to see the tech decisions and art direction of the project. thanks for sharing george!!
Brilliant idea for this new zine, and I think the missing cat flyer design for the front cover is absolutely brilliant. I think you will do extremely well with this!
YAY!!! I ordered it!! I really enjoyed following you through the process of this. I'm working on a new poetry zine and I think you may have inspired a new video idea! I'm excited to get it :)
This is a super helpful video for a newbie photographer such as myself, with ideas for projects but not really having an understanding of how to break them down to get them done. Thank you!!
i love when a photo series has a good story- yours is quite fun and i'm glad you told us. This process video was great, lots of good detail, thanks George!
I really enjoyed you talking about your thoughts on how you came up with the idea and what camera, lenses, film... you would use then what you did to refine it! I would love to know more about how you/others critique work and look at it. obviously it's more of an art but I always love to here what people think of there work and how they take other peoples thoughts.
Nice man. I always get stuck with longer projects because its difficult to see the end/finished product. Inspired by this and definitely plan to challenge myself with a month long focused project.
Hey george, You talk a lot about your insights from your friends and how it shaped your work and it got me thinking as I regularly look through and post in the FB group where a lot of work gets thrown about which people would like views on. What if we had a second page or a subsection that is dedicated to advice and critique on projects whether its to do with printing, direction of ideas or even editing and layout. I think that there are a lot of great projects going on in the community and the negative feedback magazine is a fantastic idea to grow these projects and I think some sort of page/forum to discuss project ideas and proposal would be a great idea to help support these projects happen whether they're intended for the magazine or someones own personal Zine. Just a thought that popped into my head, as im working on a project and dont have many people I know who I can ask for an opinion and my post kinda got lost in the FB page.
very useful and well broken-down video. wish i had seen this before i had printed my zines last year. btw i really liked the idea and the images as well
currently doing a project on Dog Theft so I found this super interesting process wise, kind of inspired me to try make my own scene from my photos so far see what I can come up with!! also want to try a month long project challenge and see what I get! Also boosts number of projects done which is a bonus ha!
I'm not mad about the sponsorship, whatever helps you make more zines and videos, but if a video is sponsored then I think you have to put something in the title to make viewers aware - most TH-camrs usually just write "AD". Just a heads up! It was really interesting hearing the backstory to the whole theme of the zine, I'd love to purchase it but I prefer paying via PayPal, maybe you could consider having the ability to pay that way on your site in the future? I'd love to be able to support you.
Li0nsmane Aslan! I'm completely enthralled by George's film photography and videos thanks to you and Estée. Thank you for opening up my eyes to the world of film.
I love your idea!! It's also super helpful to see your process! I've been thinking about making a zine for ages- I think I'll set myself a month to do it too! :---)

you really should go and watch the BBC documentary "secret life of the cat" - it's hilarious but also interesting. They put gopros and gps devices onto 50 cats in Surrey and watched their weird behaviour for a couple of weeks :D
Where did you get your books published? I work in animation and I've been sticking to doing "Saddle Stitched"/stapled styles for my sketchbooks because they are so much cheaper but I would be interested in making some that look more like actual books. Even if they had to ship it to the US depending on the cost might be worth it....

That was the most gentle plug in of a sponsor
It's really interesting how you got inspired for this project. Thanks for walking us through the process!

Thank you for this, it means a lot!
Plot twist: you're actually the catnapper
for every new zine , he sacrifices a cat to the Zine God

as a cat lover i thought this was a great idea, very informative video too
I love your work! I think their should be more TH-camrs who so carefully curate their content like this. Keep doing you! It's beautiful.

The Sherlock Holmes of film photography.
i love this video so much.. helps me with my idea of making my own piece of art.. thanks
Such a cool, informative post! Love your work, thanks for sharing your journey.
would you say that you couldnt finish because the concept was quite open-ended or because of more of a perfectionist type of work ethic?
This is so dope man! Really dig your style.
You're genius, I'm definitely going to be purchasing the zine
currently doing a project on Dog Theft so I found this super interesting process wise, kind of inspired me to try make my own scene from my photos so far see what I can come up with!!
