      Hi, could you please explain what setting in the global menu you changed for the volca to sync with s1. I am not able to fix it.

      @@kalpeshkpanchal hi, on the volca drum, in global settings, PAD 3 is on SYO hi ( sync output) and PAD 8 is on 1stp, ( 1 step between beats) On the S-1 the SYNC (accessed from the menu list) is on 1.

    Hi, I can't seem to stop Volca Sample 2 from receiving midi start/stop... even when disabling Global Setting 7... Any ideas? It starts/stops in sync with every DAW when connected to my audio interface and it also does it when I connect it to my Korg monologue and start sequence on it...

    I have just observed that if you have the global setting for Sync Input/Output Unit, set to "Once A Step", instead of the default "Once Every Two Steps", the swing adjustment will be transmited/recieved over the Sync in/out cable.
    If Input/output unit, is set to "Once Every Two Steps", the swing adjustment will not be transmited/recieved over the Sync in/out cable.
    Am I the only one who has noticed this?

    Ty so much bro but I think I deco need to get a rk002 midi cable so I can control all of volcas midi channels via beatstep or even via my circuit if choose to ;) thanks for your help bro I thought I’d imagined doing it on my circuit to control volca lol

    • @Philipplus
      @Philipplus  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Andrew! I'm glad I was able to point you in the right direction. Make sure that the Circuit can handle the RK-002. The RK is powered via MIDI, and not every device has MIDI power on their MIDI OUT port. For example, it works fine with my PCR-500 but I cannot make it work with my MIDI router, as well as with one of my cheaper USB-MIDI interfaces. I think there is a list of tested and compatible hardware on the retrokits page, and their costumer support is decent.
      Cheers!

    Hi. If i want to start/stop sequenser om Volca sampel from my korg Minilouge Xd would that work?

    • @Philipplus
      @Philipplus  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Hans Karlsson.
      I think it could work via MIDI, if the Minilogue sends the "FA" and "FB" real-time messages when starting and stopping its internal sequencer, and if the setting in Step 7 is active. The only caveat is that it will launch both sequencers at the same time... also you might need to set the Midi channel on the Minilogue to something above 10, in orther to it not to trigger samples on the volca.
      I hope this helps.
      Cheers

    Hello how do I sync volca sample to mpx8

  • @gerritwunderlich6708

    Great tutorial! Do you know if there is any solution for the "sync resolution" on the Volca Beats? I syncing my Moog DFAM to it but the signal is going half-time. It would make sense to me that this could change with the right "sync resolution" setting (the DFAM has only 8 steps while the Volca Beats has 16)

    • @Philipplus
      @Philipplus  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello Gerrit.
      The volcas (all of them) use a 2 pulses per quarter note (2PPQ) sync signal. There isn't a way to change this (you can alter the polarity of the signal, but not the resolution. This means that the Volca will either play at double time or at half time, depending on whether you have a 1PPQ or a 4PPQ master clock, which are more commonly used resolutions. Indeed, Arturia has now started to include the option for 2PPQ in their hardware so that it would sync nicely with the volcas. Nevertheless, it is not too difficult to program a sync converter using an arduino, for example.
      I hope this helps.
      Cheers!

      Hi Andrew
      Updating the firmware is a simple matter of playing the audio file with the firmware update to the Sync In port, but I think Korg does not recommend re-installing the firmware. What do you mean by "acting funny"?
      cheers

    Hi mate. Do you have any videos about syncing a microkorg with a volca sample? I'd like the tempo of the microkorg's arpeggiator to dictate the drum patterns of the volca if that makes sense?

    • @Philipplus
      @Philipplus  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Andy!
      That is a good question, and I might do a small video tutorial on the matter. But it is dead simple to do: Make sure that you have Step 6 with the LED on in the global options of the Volca. Then plug a MIDI cabl from the MicroKorg's MIIDI OUT to the Volca's MIDI IN. You'll need to set the MIDI channel of the MicroKorg to something above 10, so that the Volca will ignore all note and CC messages and obey only to the MIDI Clock.
      Additionally, you might want to turn off Step 7 (again in the Global menu of the Volca), to uncouple the play/stop button of the Volca with the Arp On/off of the mirokorg.
      I hope this helps.
      Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
      Cheers!

    • @Philipplus
      @Philipplus  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Andy!
      Make sure you have step 6 On (CL.Au), and Step 7 off (St.Of) after the volca is off for some time... I think the volca has some non-volatile memory for the settings, but it can be failing for some reason. Also, turn the MK and the volca on before plugin the MIDI cable to the Volca.
      I hope this helps.
      Cheers!

    What midi command number is the tempo?

    • @Philipplus
      @Philipplus  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Max,
      There isn't a specific MIDI command number for tempo. The MIDI Clock is passed as a periodical F8 message.
      I hope this helps.
