- The second week of classes at UNC-Chapel Hill started with an active shooter that left one professor dead and the campus on lockdown for hours. The Daily Tar Heel responded to the shooting with a powerful front page featuring the jarring texts sent during the lockdown. Caitlyn Yaede, the paper’s print managing editor, shares the story behind the emotional cover.

The generation that grew up with active shooter drills, hiding under desks and in classrooms, school massacres will be of voting age soon. Hope they know the power of their vote.
I grew up when Columbine happened. I was a liberal Democrat for years.
Now because of modern Democrats I'm an Independent 2nd Amendment Enthusiast.
Democrats are good at creating their own opposition.
@@thebilboshow168MAGAt's be MAGAt's 💙😎👍
I was a lifelong Republican and am a current gun owner and second amendment supporter.
But I've been telling my fellow conservative coworkers that if we don't do something to fix this situation, eventually it's going to get fixed for us by the very same kids you are talking about.
It's one thing to say it's not guns, it's mental health or whatever, but that doesn't do any good if we aren't willing to fund things like mental health care, etc.
Eventually we need to wake up to common sense solutions or we might not like what future generations decide to do.
Democrats have had all levels of Government and have done nothing.
@@tracy419 Buddy, it's pretty simple. Ohio armed their teachers and haven't had a school shooting since. We've been doing stricter gun control for decades and the problem just gets worse. The solution is pretty obvious unless you can't see beyond a particular ideology.
As a Elementary School Prinicpal , the thought of possible violence never quite leaves you. I am sick of people dying, children being traumatized so a minority of Americans can have unlimited access to guns. That is NOT what the Second Amendment is about. It is pure unmitagated BS.
This comment needs to be up toward the top where more people can see it. So very well put.

Your message is so basic it should go without saying, but clearly many people don't understand so thanks for saying it.🖖✌
As a Canadian, I’m not alone when I say I’m frankly appalled that my neighbours to the South continue to prove themselves willing to put their children through this unmitigated horror. You’re raising entire generations of people who are severely affected by PTSD and vicarious trauma, and no-one cares enough to put a stop to it. Unfathomable.
The left cares. The right doesn't. They would rather pocket money from the NRA lobby than protect kids.
It's intentional. It's all part of an overall plan to create controllable consumers. idk why the adults haven't put a stop to this madness yet 🤦🏽
What adults?
Thank you, no one here seems to understand this is a US problem. We need people from outside explain their utter confusion and shock. It also helps those of us who are disgusted stop being so jaded and keeps us engaged to try to fix it.
@@Katerpillar_ it blows my mind how different things are here compared to my first cousins in Raleigh . I’m extremely worried for her 3 kids just starting school . And also sadly her Dad, my Uncle won’t talk to me. Just because I asked him who he voted for 😳🤦🏼♀️. Yes Trump was his angry reply! 🤯

As a 65 year old gun owning law abiding veteran, I’ve long been beyond fed up with tolerance for 2nd Amendment contortionists and the obscene people that profit from the ease of access to firearms and unmonitored ammunition inventories. Not against the law but may well otherwise flag pregnant gun violence and the people prone to it. The “You can’t stop the mass shooters” is completely transparent BS. And every reasonable person knows it. Keep the freedom, but “Make it as impossible as possible” for anyone to manifest gun violence. Whatever that takes. Period. Don’t want realistic gun laws? Rewrite to 2nd Amendment into 21st Century reality. Imagine that. Any civilization worthy of humanity can figure that out.
Thank you for your service and sensibility.
Your final sentences makes it clear that any candidate for becoming a justice who proclaims to be an "Originalist" should not be allowed to be anywhere near the Supreme Court. The Second Amendment is itself not original (the clue is in the title) and yours is one of the few voices of reason.
The sentence that ends with the three words: “... not be infringed.” begins with the three words: “A well regulated...” and while referencing “keeping” and “bearing”, makes no mention of “acquiring”. It seems there is no constitutional prohibition on regulating making, selling or buying of “arms”.
Our founding fathers never imagined that Americans would start shooting each other in mass shootings !!!

How do you take a gun from a criminal ?
@@danielquinn9817 Hay dip $hit - how does a criminal get his hands on a gun and ammo? Where does the gun come from?
We are. The right has lost each election since '16, and with mass shootings becoming more and more frequent, gun control becomes even more of a winning issue.
Though they enjoyed their junior high and high school years at schools in DC, when my contract ended and we left the US, not one of my kids chose to continue with their education in the US, and none of my grandsons think of doing so. The universities are among the best in the world. It's being safe while attending them that has persuaded my kids to complete their degrees in Canada, the UK, or Australia.

The National Archives and Records Administration has confirmed the existence of three pseudonyms used by democrat Joe Biden during his time as vice president.
Democrat Biden used the fake names Robin Ware, Robert L. Peters and JRB Ware in his emails to hide his criminal activity,
The nonprofit advocacy group has been trying to uncover the pseudonyms democrat Biden used as vice president for the past two years. They first requested the National Archives release those emails in 2021. At the time, the Archives said since the then-vice president’s records were collected on Jan. 20, 2017, they wouldn’t be made public until 2022, exactly five years later. The Southeastern Legal Foundation then filed a Freedom of Information Act request in June 2022. At that point, the Archives said they had identified “approximately 5,138 email messages, 25 electronic files and 200 pages of potentially responsive records” as a part of the request but the documents were never made public.
“All too often, democrat public officials abuse their power by using it for their personal or political benefit. When they do, many seek to hide it,” Kimberly Hermann, the general counsel at the legal nonprofit, said.
“The only way to preserve governmental integrity is for (National Archives and Record Administration) to release democrat Biden’s nearly 5,400 emails to SLF and thus the public. The American public deserves to know what is in them.” Not surprising, Hunter was cc on the critical classified documents !X!X!

16 teens were shot in Chicago last weekend and no one said a word. Blue city, state and strictest gun laws don't stop bullets unfortunately.
We need to vote out do nothing district attorneys who constantly drop and downgrade gun charges, get rid of police consent decrees, get rid of no cash bail and revolving door "justice" that allows gun criminals out onto the streets again and again to offend with impunity.
This is why red states have a larger incarceration rate. Because the criminals are actually punished and locked up.
None of what you said applies to this situation.
I guess you just felt like venting lol
Two thirds of mass shooters have a history of domestic violence. Most mass shooters have shown violence at home towards their wives and/or children before committing a mass shooting. So, you may want to rethink that rant. So what is the risk factor of someone becoming a mass shooter? Having a history of domestic violence.
@@randal_gibbonsThank you. I was like what!?!? These have to be bots. I want to believe that a rational, dare I say, critically thinking person, would have figured out that what they said didn't apply here.

@@msioug they already have them , the question was “how do take a gun from an armed criminal ?” Stay focused , I know it’s tough …
@@danielquinn9817 I agree @msioug where do they get them from. They get them from those who legally have them. Theft and corruption make it so easy for criminals to have them.
The issues are the permissive laws to have and wield firearms, the incredibly destructive gun culture that exists in the country, and the distrust of authority (police in particular). All three areas must be tackled together.
The distrust of police is probably the first to address. This requires a transparent, accountable, and appropriately resourced justice system. This will in time generate trust in police and we can reduce the need to depend on our own guns and rely on police. This is the place most other countries are already at. America is so far behind and it will require decades to catchup.
Failure to do this will result in an increase in private armies and vigilante groups applying their own justice that they fail to see occur by police. This will then fracture America and render many laws unenforceable as other groups will create their own laws.
