Thanks for the tip! Our house gutters feed into an underground drainage pipe that goes into the backyard. After a recent series of storms the drainage pipe was frozen, which made the snow and ice melting from the gutters back up, some of it pooling at the foundation of our home. Using your tip for using the garden hose attached to the hot water heater, we were able to sufficiently melt the ice inside. It was like old faithful when the water was able to flow out the now unfrozen drain. Thank you!

I'm curious if the electric wire will heat enough to eventually melt the corrugated pipe. Thoughts?

I cannot get the garden hose into the drain pipe through the baffle pipe before the tank. I stuck my whole arm down the pipe and cannot reach it. Any ideas? Help

... let me tell you ...
Go buy a hot water high pressure cleaner... it can heat salt water to 130 degrees and pump it wherever you need it... this and a bit of care will solve your issues in minutes...
But I do understand those machines aren't toys and need experience 😕
Also the cost isn't chap at all

When we tried hot tap water it did nothing. Connecting the garden hose to the hot water tank and using that water worked well for us. Outdoor temperature was above freezing (about 40 F) when we did it, which probably helped because at least some of the ice up the pipe had already melted (because that portion is above ground).
