Khmer Republic: The city of Phnom Penh in 1974 as shown in the video was a civilized society and vibrant city. Many daily necessaries as well as household and technological products from Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan as well as some other western countries were imported and sold in markets across the capital. Notice the presence of Japan made refrigerators, washing machines, TVs, radios, fans, tape recorders, motorbikes etc. Sadly, a sight of such a modernization was not permanent as a result of the Fall of Phnom Penh event to Khmer Rouge on 17th April 1975.

The Khmer Republic - putting Cambodia on track to being one of the best countries in Asia, before the Communists made it the worst in the world.

Before Khmer Rouge was in power, The United States and its allies have been carpet bombing the entire country of Cambodia with the exception of Phnom Penh, dropping 1.2 millions tons of bomb every 8 minutes 24/7 by US B-52 for years. Just check ''Operation Menu'' and ''Operation Freedom Deal''. Pol Pot took this advantage to gain popularity and applied Utopia based on the policy of Angkorian Era called ''Angkar'' mix with Nazi ideology He later betrayed Vietnam and the Soviet Union. implemented ethnic cleansing, anti-Vietnamese policies, the abolition of soviet hospitals, embassies, etc. and implemented year zero, which means starting from scratch putting the country in primitive state turmoil. When the Vietnamese army liberated Cambodia with the help of Khmer PRK forces of Hun Sen so called ''Vietrnamese Invasion of Cambodia'' by the West, The United States, Thailand, and China feared Soviet influenced in Indochina and did proxy war against Vietnam and Soviet Union indirectly supported or funded the Khmer Rouge as a way to invalidated the Vietnamese, Soviet-backed Khmer PRK government, at that time China was not really a power threat to the west so they would preferred genocidal Pro-Maoist Khmer Rouge government than Khmer PRK. they also created Asian version of NATO called SEATO but was dissolved later. Even after the cold war and the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, NATO continued to exist and terrorized small countries around the world specifically in Africa and Middle East. supporting separatist groups, opposition groups, even neo-nazi groups, and radical terrorists like ISIS, it doesn't not matter what groups as long as it is beneficial for the United States and the West to keep them in power. When Great Ho Chi Minh unite Vietnam as one France and United States could not do anything. lesson here its ok if to be a nationalist but do not let Western politics, or policies divide us! stay united with your comrades!

Japanese products including beer were very popular among Cambodian people, and people enjoyed a free and wealthy life before 1975. After Pol Pot`s conquest of Cambodia, I wonder how many people in this video could survide.

Cool music! Sadly, most of these Khmer artists were murdered by the Khmer Rouge because they were viewed as being decadent and counter revolutionary.
Fortunately, Touch Seang Tana (the first song's artist) was able to survive Pol Pot's genocide by passing himself off as a simple peasant. 🙏🏽

If you were smart this is when you get out of Cambodia.
At this point Phnom Penh is surrounded and all supply routes cut off, only way to resupply or to leave the city was the airport. It was game over by that point.
Lon nol should have left Phnom Penh to the Rouge, and picked a coastal town or a Thai border town as the provisional capital. They can get resupplied indefinitely by the US that way.
