Do blue undertones work for watercolor portraits?

- This is a practice painting of my daughter--working out skin tones, subtle shadows, and trying out a new approach using a blue and yellow underpainting.
I think the subtle cool color temperature really makes the skin look more transparent and realistic!
What do you think?
Skin tone colors used:
QOR Phthalo Blue
Holbein Yellow Ochre
Holbein Scarlet Lake
Winsor & Newton Transparent Orange
Daniel Smith Quinacridone Rose
For the darkest shadows I'm experimenting with a mix of Sap Green, Transparent Orange and Quinacridone Rose. It made for a lovely transparent, non-granulating dark brown.

As someone with a fair olive undertone, I appreciate this vid! 😁
I'm so glad!
Me too hahaha
They do work! You can clearly see how cooler the blue undertone carries weight in the final piece
Thank you, Reagan!
Emily, The portrait is absolutely stunning. Thank you very much. David. XX
Sei bravissima!!!
So realistic!! Well done, Emily!
Thanks, Sofia!
Wow, that is awesome! Beautiful portrait painting.
Thank you so much 😀
So beautiful!
Beautiful. All the best to the artist🥰
Oh, Wow!!
As long as is an unsaturated blue green to green yellow will be useful for skintones
Mesmerising ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Such a beautiful piece!!!!
Thank you so much!
Wow 😍
Beautiful!
I would say it did work very well!! Indeed🎉
Wow that is amazing. Thank you for sharing. ❤️
My pleasure!
Amazing
Gorgeous! I tried to paint a realistic portrait of my boyfriend but it came out so flat. I switched it up and used crazy colors and it looks so alive. Maybe realism isn't right for me but I wish I could at least make one painting work!
Amazing.
this is incredible!
Very pretty! 👏 ❤️
Omg this is amazing
Wow!
Bellísima!! 🎉muchas felicitaciones 🙏🌻

Emily, I love this video. I am taking your watercolor mastery class and hoping to move onto portraits mainly. I'm loving it so far I'm a beginner so I'm starting little by little. Thank you for sharing your talent.

No full video of this one-it was just practice. :-)
I have never learned to do portraits and I struggle. I can do landscapes no problem, and animals, etc but people? Nope.
❤❤❤
Oh wow , you are so talented. Just beautiful
Superbe
Where did you learn this mam
What color blue is that?
Face ka colour kesa bana lato ho alag alag
This looks like you as a child.
Oh, your technique is perfect❣️This picture is so amazing❤️Do you teach somewhere how to do such a realistic and beautiful portrait❓❓🙏
Yes! I have an online school at emilyolsonart.com
@@EmilyOlsonArt Hello Emily, thanks. Can I just somehow learn only portrait painting from you? 🙏❤️
wow! what paint color are those?
There are no specific colours that will get you as an individual to a specific point. You need to be able to look at the video and identify the colours for yourself or estimate how they were mixed to be able to do this. There isn't a step by step you can follow to be good at painting. It takes practice and experimenting and learning that intuition. Someone could use entirely different colours to the ones used for this painting and end with a similar result just by knowing their own paints.
beautifull artwork, but "(d)evil" face
Amazing!!
Beautiful!
